What our Tumwater customers say about Sherpa:
“We were moving across the country and I was looking at the top five rated on Google. Sherpa came up and I liked their customer service compared to everybody else that I called. Everything went smoothly. The rep answered any question I had. When he finally told me the price, nothing deviated off from that. I did a couple of changes last minute and he honored the original price even though he didn’t have to. I was very satisfied with everything, especially the timeframe of when the vehicles were picked up and then delivered. It was amazing. The first three vehicles were picked up on Friday and they were delivered on Monday, from Washington to Missouri.”
“We liked Sherpa’s price lock guarantee and that they only use carriers that aren’t going to mess over your vehicle. They are high-rated carriers. I talked to Sherpa to get my vehicle all set up. They explained to me the process. Then, they talked to me and let me know that there was a carrier available. They just said, “Hey, we have a carrier. We’re going to charge your card. And if you have any questions, you can call us back.” Both interactions were good. On the delivery, I was contacted the day before by Motion Auto. They texted me the day before to let me know that it was gonna be delivered and then they delivered it to my hometown. I live on a small road so they couldn’t deliver it right to my house, but we set up an area and the driver met me on time when he said he was going to, and backed out the car for me and handed me the keys. Everything looks good. My car was a lot dirtier but I had an open transport and it was from Washington to New Hampshire.”
“Fantastic service. Got my car shipped without a scratch from Washington state to New Jersey in under a week. No unpredictable fees, everyone was very courteous, no high pressure sales. Price is a little higher but the peace of mind was worth it. Only complaints were that the contractor picking up the car didn’t give me that much notice, I had to call them directly to find out they were picking the car up the next day – but they did respond immediately, which is more than I’ve heard you can say about other companies.”

Factors that affect Tumwater Car Shipping Prices
- Distance and Route: The distance between pickup and delivery locations significantly impacts car shipping costs to and from Tumwater, WA. Longer distances generally mean higher prices. Additionally, routes along major highways like I-5, which runs through Tumwater, are often more cost-effective than those requiring travel on smaller roads.
- Transport Type: Open car carriers are the most common and affordable option for auto transport to Tumwater. While enclosed trailers offer extra protection, they’re typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times. For most vehicles, open transport is sufficient, even considering Tumwater’s rainy climate.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy and their impact on fuel consumption. This is particularly relevant when shipping to hilly areas around Tumwater.
- Seasonal Factors: Car shipping prices to Tumwater may fluctuate seasonally. Summer months and January typically see higher demand and prices. Tumwater’s mild winters generally don’t significantly impact shipping, but occasional snow can affect schedules and costs.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like nearby Olympia often have lower shipping costs compared to more rural locations. If you’re flexible, choosing a pickup or delivery point closer to I-5 could reduce your auto transport expenses.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles that can roll, brake, and steer are less expensive to ship. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the cost of car shipping services to Tumwater.
- Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates when shipping a car to Tumwater. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically come at a premium.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

- Choose open transport: Open shipping is generally more affordable and provides greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates compared to enclosed carriers.
- Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find convenient spots near major highways like I-5 or US-101. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better pricing options for your Tumwater auto transport.
- Consider terminal-to-terminal alternatives: While Sherpa doesn’t offer this service, discuss with your advisor about potential nearby locations that might serve as convenient pickup or dropoff points to reduce costs.
- Leverage Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise: Rather than shopping around for quotes, trust in Sherpa’s upfront pricing. We guarantee our initial quote, ensuring you won’t pay more even if costs increase.

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Tumwater?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Tumwater?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Tumwater?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Reviews from our Washington Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Washington customers:
“We were moving across the country and I was looking at the top five rated on Google. Sherpa came up and I liked their customer service compared to everybody else that I called. Everything went smoothly. The rep answered any question I had. When he finally told me the price, nothing deviated off from that. I did a couple of changes last minute and he honored the original price even though he didn’t have to. I was very satisfied with everything, especially the timeframe of when the vehicles were picked up and then delivered. It was amazing. The first three vehicles were picked up on Friday and they were delivered on Monday, from Washington to Missouri. My father was there during the pick-up and he said the drivers were knowledgeable about tying everything down. They were respectful of the vehicles and they loaded them on and off the trailer. When they showed up, I met with the guy and the kids that were transporting and they seemed like they knew how to take care of their loads. Everything was perfect when it showed up. The vehicles were in the exact same conditions the last time I saw them aside from them being cleaner than the way they got them because of all the rain that they had on the way.”
“We moved two vehicles with Sherpa. Working with the reps was all pretty positive. I started with an online thing and they contacted me. We worked things out. The first vehicle was really good ’cause they were able to drop it off right in front of our place in Pennsylvania, which is a little bit out in the country. The only issue was coordinating everything from Pennsylvania. I was in New Jersey on a work assignment at the time and my son was at his place in Vancouver, Washington. The mover called and said they needed to get the vehicle in two hours. Now they called and said, “We’re coming to get it.” I don’t know why they couldn’t give us a little more notice like, “We’ll be there in a few hours.” or call the day before and say, “We plan to get your vehicle tomorrow.” Otherwise, the cost was good and on their part, Sherpa did everything they said. They reimbursed me for the carwash too. For the second vehicle, the driver didn’t think he can make it out here. He requested we meet him in another location, which I didn’t have a problem doing. But we had to drive 50 miles to go meet him and get the vehicle. That vehicle is a brand new one that my son had with 5,000 miles on it. Someone picked it up in the dark and we didn’t see it. Within a day, we saw that there was a paint chip on the door handle. Somebody had put white touch-up paint on it. Sherpa said we could file a claim and if it was $200 or less, they could cover it directly which they did by crediting the amount that we paid them.”
“I rarely leave reviews for things, but I wanted to for Sherpa because it was my first time shipping a vehicle and I chose Sherpa as my broker, and everything went great! They chose West Coast Auto Transport as my carrier (which they assigned very quickly) for shipping my car from WA State to Maryland, and their drivers were so kind and professional. They picked up my car on the first day of the pickup window, and despite a delay in delivery, the carrier gave me an update and the driver for delivery was very communicative about arrival and it truly was door-to-door service! He parked his truck down the road and personally drove my vehicle right to my apartment building door – so awesome! I will absolutely use Sherpa again for any future car shipping needs.”
“I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. This was my first time shipping a vehicle and from my first conversations with Dillano and Clayton, to the final delivery of my vehicle, I couldn’t be more happy with this service. This was a transport from Seattle, WA to Harrisburg, PA. All aspects of transport were explained thoroughly and clearly by Dillano and Clayton before even committing to using Sherpa. The friendly and professional driver also provided great communication via text and phone calls for pickup of vehicle and delivery at its final destination. It couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Thank you so much for making what seemed like an intimidating process an easy option.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Tumwater, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

- The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
- During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
