- Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Renton customers say about Sherpa:
“It was about eight days from the time of pickup to the time of delivery. The carrier driver was fine. He had a bit of an accent but we were able to understand him. The guy didn’t bring the car to our house, which had plenty of access. There was a more convenient spot for him. Our roads are extremely wide and we’re right off of a major highway, Route 61. He wouldn’t have had any trouble coming up into this neighborhood. Nonetheless, it wasn’t a problem for us. I was okay with the arrangement. We got the car and we were completely happy with the service. The car was dirty as could be expected because it was an open transport. But the car looked like it was in the same shape as it was when we sent it. We would use Sherpa and we would recommend them as well. I wouldn’t have any trouble if somebody just called them only.”
“For the second vehicle, the driver didn’t think he can make it out here. He requested we meet him in another location, which I didn’t have a problem doing. But we had to drive 50 miles to go meet him and get the vehicle. That vehicle is a brand new one that my son had with 5,000 miles on it. Someone picked it up in the dark and we didn’t see it. Within a day, we saw that there was a paint chip on the door handle. Somebody had put white touch-up paint on it. Sherpa said we could file a claim and if it was $200 or less, they could cover it directly which they did by crediting the amount that we paid them.”
“Fantastic service. Got my car shipped without a scratch from Washington state to New Jersey in under a week. No unpredictable fees, everyone was very courteous, no high pressure sales. Price is a little higher but the peace of mind was worth it. Only complaints were that the contractor picking up the car didn’t give me that much notice, I had to call them directly to find out they were picking the car up the next day – but they did respond immediately, which is more than I’ve heard you can say about other companies.”

Factors that affect Renton Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly affects car shipping costs to or from Renton, WA. Longer distances typically result in higher prices, but the cost per mile often decreases for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Renton. Enclosed carriers offer extra protection from Renton’s frequent rain and occasional snow, but they’re about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: Renton’s proximity to major highways like I-405 and I-5 can help reduce shipping costs. However, deliveries to more remote areas outside the city might incur additional fees.
- Seasonal Factors: Car shipping prices to Renton may fluctuate seasonally. Winter months can see increased rates due to challenging weather conditions, while summer often brings higher demand for auto transport services.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to Renton than standard cars due to the space they occupy and fuel consumption.
- Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower car shipping costs to Renton. Rush or guaranteed delivery services will increase the price.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship to Renton as they can be easily loaded and unloaded. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Renton car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling vehicles from the same area.
- Choose open transport: Open shipping is the most cost-effective option for car transport to or from Renton, WA. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed carriers.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-405 or I-5. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and lower your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Renton auto transport. This flexibility allows carriers to optimize their schedules and potentially offer you a better deal.

Renton, Washington Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Renton?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Renton. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Renton?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Renton?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Renton?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Reviews from our Washington Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Washington customers:
“We moved two vehicles with Sherpa. Working with the reps was all pretty positive. I started with an online thing and they contacted me. We worked things out. The first vehicle was really good `cause they were able to drop it off right in front of our place in Pennsylvania, which is a little bit out in the country. The only issue was coordinating everything from Pennsylvania. I was in New Jersey on a work assignment at the time and my son was at his place in Vancouver, Washington. The mover called and said they needed to get the vehicle in two hours. Now they called and said, “We’re coming to get it.” I don’t know why they couldn’t give us a little more notice like, “We’ll be there in a few hours.” or call the day before and say, “We plan to get your vehicle tomorrow.” Otherwise, the cost was good and on their part, Sherpa did everything they said. They reimbursed me for the carwash too. For the second vehicle, the driver didn’t think he can make it out here.
“We were moving across the country and I was looking at the top five rated on Google. Sherpa came up and I liked their customer service compared to everybody else that I called. Everything went smoothly. The rep answered any question I had. When he finally told me the price, nothing deviated off from that. I did a couple of changes last minute and he honored the original price even though he didn’t have to. I was very satisfied with everything, especially the timeframe of when the vehicles were picked up and then delivered. It was amazing. The first three vehicles were picked up on Friday and they were delivered on Monday, from Washington to Missouri. My father was there during the pick-up and he said the drivers were knowledgeable about tying everything down. They were respectful of the vehicles and they loaded them on and off the trailer. When they showed up, I met with the guy and the kids that were transporting and they seemed like they knew how to take care of their loads. Everything was perfect when it showed up. The vehicles were in the exact same conditions the last time I saw them aside from them being cleaner than the way they got them because of all the rain that they had on the way.”
“Fantastic service. Got my car shipped without a scratch from Washington state to New Jersey in under a week. No unpredictable fees, everyone was very courteous, no high pressure sales. Price is a little higher but the peace of mind was worth it. Only complaints were that the contractor picking up the car didn’t give me that much notice, I had to call them directly to find out they were picking the car up the next day – but they did respond immediately, which is more than I’ve heard you can say about other companies. The driver dropping off the car in New Jersey also asked to drop it off an evening earlier than planned, which could have been inconvenient for some but was perfect in my case. Be forewarned that they can rarely make it into residential streets, so you’ll likely end up picking your car up from a nearby shopping center or other large parking lot.”
“We liked Sherpa’s price lock guarantee and that they only use carriers that aren’t going to mess over your vehicle. They are high-rated carriers. I talked to Sherpa to get my vehicle all set up. They explained to me the process. Then, they talked to me and let me know that there was a carrier available. They just said, “Hey, we have a carrier. We’re going to charge your card. And if you have any questions, you can call us back.” Both interactions were good. On the delivery, I was contacted the day before by Motion Auto. They texted me the day before to let me know that it was gonna be delivered and then they delivered it to my hometown. I live on a small road so they couldn’t deliver it right to my house, but we set up an area and the driver met me on time when he said he was going to, and backed out the car for me and handed me the keys. Everything looks good. My car was a lot dirtier but I had an open transport and it was from Washington to New Hampshire.”
“I liked everything about Sherpa Auto Transport. It’s all about customer care. Also, their price was less. And whenever I call customer care, the response was excellent. I could reach them and they could answer all the questions, whatever I asked, very patiently. The first person I spoke to was Brittany, and she was very patient. Also, she was not sure whether I would go ahead with her service or not, but still she gave the information. Sometimes, people speak nicely only when they are sure that they will get the customer. But she was not even sure because I did not commit, and she did her job sincerely. The pick-up date and time window were given. The driver arrived exactly in the time window. He took pictures and we gave the car. At the drop-off location also, it was smooth. He didn’t speak anything here and there. Just did his task and left. At the drop-off also. Whatever was told in the instructions, it was just like that. So, I was happy.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Renton, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
