Factors that affect Pullman Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Pullman, WA and your destination significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but the cost per mile often decreases for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open transport is the most common and affordable option for car shipping to or from Pullman. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from Pullman’s varied weather conditions, including occasional snow and rain.
- Vehicle Size: Larger vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship due to their weight and size. This is particularly important to consider when transporting farm or agricultural vehicles common in the Pullman area.
- Time of Year: Seasonal fluctuations affect car shipping prices in Pullman. Winter months can see higher rates due to challenging road conditions on routes like US-195 or SR-27, while summer may have increased demand from students moving to or from Washington State University.
- Fuel Prices: The cost of fuel directly impacts auto transport rates. As Pullman is somewhat remote, fuel price changes can have a more pronounced effect on shipping costs to and from this area.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. If your car isn’t running, inform your auto transport company, as special equipment may be needed, potentially increasing the cost.
- Flexibility: Being flexible with your pickup and delivery dates can often result in lower car shipping costs. This is especially true for transport to or from Pullman, given its location away from major transport hubs.
Understanding these factors can help you plan and budget for your car shipping needs to or from Pullman, WA. For more detailed information on what affects car shipping prices, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Pullman, Washington Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Pullman?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Pullman. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Pullman?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Pullman?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Pullman?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Pullman
When planning car shipping to or from Pullman, WA, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather and climate factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Pullman experiences distinct seasons, each with its own set of challenges for car shipping services.
In winter, Pullman can see significant snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re scheduling car transport during this time:
- Remove snow tires or chains before shipping, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with these
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions
- Avoid leaving items that may freeze and expand in your vehicle
During summer, temperatures can rise significantly. When shipping a car in warmer months:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect your car’s interior
- Remove any items that could melt or be damaged by heat
As a college town, Pullman car shipping sees peak demand at the beginning and end of academic terms. To avoid delays and potentially higher costs:
- Book your auto transport a few weeks before or after the typical student moving dates
- Be flexible with your shipping dates to secure better rates
By considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from Pullman, WA. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on transporting your vehicle safely and efficiently.
Car Shipping for College Students in Pullman, Washington
When considering car shipping to Pullman, Washington, students and parents should be aware of the parking situation at Washington State University (WSU). WSU requires all vehicles parked on campus to have a valid permit, which can be purchased online or at the parking office. Most residence halls offer nearby parking, but spaces are limited and may require an additional fee. For off-campus students, many apartments provide parking, but it’s essential to confirm this before signing a lease. During winter breaks, WSU offers long-term parking options for students leaving their cars behind. Given Pullman’s snowy winters, snow tires or all-season tires are highly recommended. Students should also verify that their auto insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to their new location. By planning ahead and understanding these factors, students can ensure a smooth transition when shipping a car to Pullman for their college experience at WSU.
Reviews from our Washington Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Washington customers:
“I always try to go with the local guys first. But I was unsuccessful around the Spokane area. A few of them that I talked to weren’t interested. I looked at six transport companies and Sherpa had the better ratings. One national company gave me one quote and came back with something that was much higher. Sherpa, on the other hand, stuck with what they quoted me with and they were able to get it done. The total transport from the West Coast to the East Coast took five or six days. They gave me a date and they went a day over, but it wasn’t a big deal for me because I wasn’t on any time constraints. I had contact on pick-up, the day before delivery, and the day of delivery. During the pick-up, I had to give the driver my daughter’s number. I’m in California and she was in Washington. My daughter took pictures and she said there were no problems. During the delivery, the driver called within an hour out and my brother-in-law called him and he met him right outside of his neighborhood. The car was fine. My daughter sent my brother-in-law all the pictures and he knew what to expect. The car was delivered like it was shipped.”
“Setting up the transport was pretty good. They were clear about the rates and fees. Initially the quote they gave was a little high. So, I told them, “Can you reduce the cost a little bit?”. They gave me a different time window where the cost would be a little less and I opted for that because I was not in a hurry. That timeline worked pretty well.”
“The person who picked up and the person who dropped off my car were both very nice and helpful. The car came on time and there were no issues. While this service is very expensive, it was worth it to avoid of headache of driving it myself.”
“We got a new vehicle for my wife, but we didn’t trade in the old one. Instead, we gave the old one to my daughter. She lives in Washington. We live in Ohio. I dealt with three companies before deciding to use Sherpa. The first company that we contacted sent me an email saying their guy tried to call me. He didn’t reach me, so he sent me an email. That created suspicion for me because I checked my phone and I didn’t see any missed calls from that business. I talked to the guy, and he never really convinced me that I wasn’t correct. But because I suspected he sent the email without having called, it led me to take them out of the list. That left Sherpa and the other company. I chose Sherpa based on reviews and price. Sherpa’s customer service was pretty much ideal. They answered all the questions I had. They kept every commitment they made. I would recommend them. It was a nervous type of transaction for me. I’ve never shipped a car before, and the internet has got plenty of nightmare-type examples. But if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to Sherpa. My daughter inspected the car when it arrived. I sent her pictures, and there were pictures taken by the truck driver. She found no new damage. She went through it and verified that the spare tire and the tools for changing it and everything else were all there. So, near as I can tell, it arrived in the same condition in which it left. It might have been a little dirtier, but that’s to be expected after traveling most of the way across the country.”
“I used Colonial Van Lines when I moved my house from Maryland to Vancouver, Washington. They also coordinated moving my cars and they were able to move one of them. But they somehow canceled my second car move. I told them that I needed it moved out by July 22nd and they said that they couldn’t find anything. They said that on that weekend, they could do it but I told them to forget it. So, I started calling around and Sherpa was able to find the driver. I was thankful that they were able to squeeze me in in such a short notification. The driver was really good, too. I got the call at least 24 hours in advance and I was able to text him back and forth. Where I live, it’s a little hard to bring those 18-wheeler to load the cars, so we were able to connect. We agreed to meet.at a nearby gas station and he was there before the time. So, things worked really well for the pickup. The same thing happened for the drop-off. We were still staying at the hotel while we were buying the house, so I couldn’t be there, but my wife was there. We told him that at the main street in front of the hotel we were staying in, he should be able to pull over or he could drop the car off. So, there was coordination. The call came the day before and the communication happened in the morning. So, the process was seamless. They were also really professional and they took care of the car well.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Pullman, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

- The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
- During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
