Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Lynnwood customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I had Sherpa transport a 2019 Honda Accord. Their customer service reps gave me several calls and a lot of email exchanges. Overall, it was a good experience. They were pretty helpful. While the phone call is not too easy to reach, the email is kind of like maybe better. Every time I send emails, the response to me is faster than if I leave a voicemail.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I gotten quotes from 12 places and a lot of them started really low at 500 bucks for that transport. But once I talked to other people, the quotes quickly went from 500 to 1,000. It was a bait and switch tactic. Sherpa’s quote was higher at about 900 or 1,000. I really liked the upfront price they gave us. It was real and it wasn’t changing after the initial thing.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The way Sherpa checked the car and marked everything that was on it was the best. I got a notification that the driver would be there, then he got there early. They tried to give us a half-hour notice so we could get there, and then we got the text or call that they would be there such amount of time. They delivered the car as expected. It was in great condition.”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Lynnwood, WA significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Lynnwood. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier and potentially slower, offers extra protection from Lynnwood’s frequent rain and occasional snow.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Route Accessibility: Lynnwood’s proximity to major routes like I-5 and I-405 can help keep costs down. However, shipping to more remote areas of Washington may increase prices.
  • Seasonal Demand: Auto transport prices in Lynnwood can fluctuate with the seasons. Summer months and January often see higher rates due to increased demand.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the carrier. Non-running cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.
  • Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can result in lower car shipping costs to or from Lynnwood. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically come with a premium.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Lynnwood car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-5 or I-405. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates and locations can lead to better options and potential savings on your Lynnwood auto transport.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer when demand for car shipping services is high. Booking during off-peak times may result in lower rates.
  • Prepare your vehicle: Ensure your car is in good working condition to avoid any delays or additional costs during the shipping process.

Lynnwood, Washington Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Lynnwood?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Lynnwood?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Lynnwood?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Lynnwood?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. What types of vehicles can you transport?

Reviews from our Washington Customers

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Washington customers:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I had a car delivered from Washington State to Texas through Sherpa. The rep was helpful. He got back to me on time and the movers came in early. The driver got my vehicle off the truck pretty quickly when it was delivered. It came with no damage so I was pretty pleased. Also, Sherpa’s quote was cheaper than that of other service providers.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa was great. I talked to a lady and she was really good. The price was high. However, in my specific circumstance delivering the car to my teenage daughter in Colorado, I wanted zero issues at the end of the delivery. I didn’t want a scenario where the car was delayed or the driver for whatever reason said it cost me more money than I originally anticipated. One of the reasons why I picked Sherpa was because of their guarantee. If there are any overages, they would eat those overages. So, that peace of mind was worth the extra $200 that it costs to transport the vehicle. Overall, it was really good. I was a little upset though. They gave me a quote. I thought about it and then I called them back. I wanted to change the pickup location like two miles away. They charged me an extra $100. I said, “What’s the difference? You’re literally two miles away. You could see where the new spot that I wanted to have the car picked up.” And they did it right. They said, “It’s a higher price, but we’ll send you a credit card or a debit card with $100 on it to get it back to the original price.” I honestly did not think they were gonna do it. But they sent me a card and it had 100 bucks on it. Sherpa found the driver. They picked the car up on time and there were no issues at the other end of the line.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa’s customer service was very helpful, courteous and efficient. The quote was higher than what we thought it was gonna be and what we wanted to pay, but it was very comparable to what everybody else was charging. The car was being picked up by the airport and it was supposed to be in the morning but we realized late the night before that we were not gonna be ready so we called the driver. He said it was not a problem and he completely rearranged his schedule. He accommodated us so he made all his other pick-ups first and then picked us up last, which was unbelievable, because we were familiar with the area and we knew the crazy driving and backtracking he had to do in order to do that. He was so nice. He kept calling us with updates because the traffic in Seattle was horrendous. We got there 30 minutes beforehand, which there was time enough for us to unload the vehicle and get our stuff into the hotel and then get back out there to meet him. It was awesome. It was the same guy for the delivery and it was perfect. It was much easier because they were already here in town and we could meet him anywhere. He was superb. I would definitely recommend Sherpa. I liked the person that coordinated everything at the beginning. I called him all kinds of crazy hours and so many times to work this out and he always answers his phone day or night, and I know he had kids because I could hear them. That was above and beyond anything I would expect.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“We moved two vehicles with Sherpa. Working with the reps was all pretty positive. I started with an online thing and they contacted me. We worked things out. The first vehicle was really good ’cause they were able to drop it off right in front of our place in Pennsylvania, which is a little bit out in the country. The only issue was coordinating everything from Pennsylvania. I was in New Jersey on a work assignment at the time and my son was at his place in Vancouver, Washington. The mover called and said they needed to get the vehicle in two hours. Now they called and said, “We’re coming to get it.” I don’t know why they couldn’t give us a little more notice like, “We’ll be there in a few hours.” or call the day before and say, “We plan to get your vehicle tomorrow.” Otherwise, the cost was good and on their part, Sherpa did everything they said. They reimbursed me for the carwash too. For the second vehicle, the driver didn’t think he can make it out here. He requested we meet him in another location, which I didn’t have a problem doing. But we had to drive 50 miles to go meet him and get the vehicle. That vehicle is a brand new one that my son had with 5,000 miles on it. Someone picked it up in the dark and we didn’t see it. Within a day, we saw that there was a paint chip on the door handle. Somebody had put white touch-up paint on it. Sherpa said we could file a claim and if it was $200 or less, they could cover it directly which they did by crediting the amount that we paid them.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“We were moving across the country and I was looking at the top five rated on Google. Sherpa came up and I liked their customer service compared to everybody else that I called. Everything went smoothly. The rep answered any question I had. When he finally told me the price, nothing deviated off from that. I did a couple of changes last minute and he honored the original price even though he didn’t have to. I was very satisfied with everything, especially the timeframe of when the vehicles were picked up and then delivered. It was amazing. The first three vehicles were picked up on Friday and they were delivered on Monday, from Washington to Missouri. My father was there during the pick-up and he said the drivers were knowledgeable about tying everything down. They were respectful of the vehicles and they loaded them on and off the trailer. When they showed up, I met with the guy and the kids that were transporting and they seemed like they knew how to take care of their loads. Everything was perfect when it showed up. The vehicles were in the exact same conditions the last time I saw them aside from them being cleaner than the way they got them because of all the rain that they had on the way.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Lynnwood, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  1. The first semi-truck was invented in 1898 by Alexander Winton to transport cars from his Cleveland-based Winton Motor Carriage Company. He wanted a way to deliver cars to customers without adding miles to the vehicles. [Source: Institute for Transportation, Iowa State University]
  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
