Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Issaquah customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa was more receptive compared to the other companies that reached out to me. I emailed Sherpa questions back and forth, and they answered them quickly. They also stuck with the price they said so that was helpful. I was told by many other companies that there would be a difference in the end price. The only issue I had with Sherpa was I didn’t know they were going to get my car until literally that day. They were trying to find a driver and it was last minute. They picked up my car at my work instead of at my home. They were very easily able to work with me to manage my schedule as opposed to their schedule. The driver was great. He came a day earlier, pulled up right in front of my place, and unloaded the car. It was a good experience and I would definitely recommend Issaquah.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa’s reps were top-notch and very efficient. Everything that was communicated and promised was exactly what was delivered. The quote was 100% accurate and the driver was very courteous, professional and detail oriented. He was also was very flexible with regard to the on-site delivery. It was a very outstanding and quite effortless experience. I’ll highly recommend Sherpa to anyone else in Issaquah.”

Yelp
★★★★★

“Fantastic service. Got my car shipped without a scratch from Washington state to New Jersey in under a week. No unpredictable fees, everyone was very courteous, no high pressure sales. Price is a little higher but the peace of mind was worth it. Only complaints were that the contractor picking up the car didn’t give me that much notice, I had to call them directly to find out they were picking the car up the next day – but they did respond immediately, which is more than I’ve heard you can say about other companies.”

  • Distance and Route: The distance between Issaquah, WA and your destination greatly affects car shipping costs. Issaquah’s location near major highways like I-90 and I-405 can make transport more efficient, potentially reducing costs for routes along these corridors.
  • Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Issaquah. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Seasonal Factors: Issaquah’s weather can impact car shipping prices. Winter snow and ice on mountain passes like Snoqualmie can affect transport schedules and costs. Summer is often busier for auto transport, which may increase prices.
  • Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger vehicles or those with low ground clearance may cost more to ship. Inoperable vehicles require special equipment, increasing the price. Ensure your car is in running condition to keep costs down.
  • Pickup and Delivery Locations: Issaquah’s proximity to Seattle can be advantageous. Urban areas are generally cheaper for car shipping than rural locations. Consider meeting the carrier in Seattle if it saves on costs.
  • Flexibility in Pickup Window: A wider pickup window often results in lower car shipping costs. If you’re not in a rush, consider Sherpa’s five-day window for the most cost-effective auto transport option.

When relocating to or from Issaquah, WA, there are several important factors to consider regarding your vehicle and the moving process. For those shipping a car to Issaquah, it’s crucial to be aware of local regulations and requirements.

Firstly, Washington state requires all vehicles to pass an emissions test before registration. However, Issaquah is exempt from this requirement, making the process simpler for new residents. When registering your vehicle, you’ll need to visit a local Department of Licensing office within 30 days of establishing residency.

If you’re using the I-405 or SR 520 highways frequently, consider getting a Good To Go! pass for toll payments. This electronic toll collection system makes commuting more convenient and can save you money on toll fees.

Issaquah experiences mild summers and cool, wet winters. When shipping your car during winter months, be prepared for potential weather-related delays. The city’s proximity to the Cascade Mountains means occasional snowfall, so winter tires might be necessary.

Issaquah, Washington Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Issaquah?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Issaquah. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Issaquah?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Issaquah?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Issaquah?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

“My son was moving cross-country and we needed to transport his SUV. I looked into two other transport companies but decided to go with Sherpa. The quote they provided was fair and it was comparable to what I’ve looked into. Also, the customer service was outstanding and the reps were super accommodating. They said they’d do whatever they can to make the move seamless as it was a big transition for me. They reassured me that the car would be there on time and I need not worry. They also told me that they could make changes, if there are any, without penalty. It was stressful enough to have my son leave the nest and go to school back East but Sherpa made the transport super seamless and it was the easiest part of this whole moving thing. My son said the delivery went smoothly. The driver called when he was about an hour away and he and my son decided on a spot at a big-box store with a big parking lot because the driver couldn’t deliver the car into his apartment. Sherpa was awesome and I would definitely use them again if I need to.”

“I liked everything about Sherpa Auto Transport. It’s all about customer care. Also, their price was less. And whenever I call customer care, the response was excellent. I could reach them and they could answer all the questions, whatever I asked, very patiently. The first person I spoke to was Brittany, and she was very patient. Also, she was not sure whether I would go ahead with her service or not, but still she gave the information. Sometimes, people speak nicely only when they are sure that they will get the customer. But she was not even sure because I did not commit, and she did her job sincerely. The pick-up date and time window were given. The driver arrived exactly in the time window. He took pictures and we gave the car. At the drop-off location also, it was smooth. He didn’t speak anything here and there. Just did his task and left. At the drop-off also. Whatever was told in the instructions, it was just like that. So, I was happy.”

“Sherpa was great. I talked to a lady and she was really good. The price was high. However, in my specific circumstance delivering the car to my teenage daughter in Colorado, I wanted zero issues at the end of the delivery. I didn’t want a scenario where the car was delayed or the driver for whatever reason said it cost me more money than I originally anticipated. One of the reasons why I picked Sherpa was because of their guarantee. If there are any overages, they would eat those overages. So, that peace of mind was worth the extra $200 that it costs to transport the vehicle. Overall, it was really good. I was a little upset though. They gave me a quote. I thought about it and then I called them back. I wanted to change the pickup location like two miles away. They charged me an extra $100. I said, “What’s the difference? You’re literally two miles away. You could see where the new spot that I wanted to have the car picked up.” And they did it right. They said, “It’s a higher price, but we’ll send you a credit card or a debit card with $100 on it to get it back to the original price.” I honestly did not think they were gonna do it. But they sent me a card and it had 100 bucks on it. Sherpa found the driver. They picked the car up on time and there were no issues at the other end of the line.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“My experience was wonderful with Sherpa. Everything went exactly as promised and as requested. From the very first time I contacted Sherpa, they were clear about what they offered and I appreciated the clarity of what I needed to do. I had it in writing. I asked the first fellow that I talked to for a quote and he was very clear about what that cost included, when and how much I would owe the driver, and what form of payment was needed. He also assured me that there would not be any additional costs. $300 was to reserve my transport. There was an offer for $100 back once the delivery was made. I just needed to send them the bill of lading. Yesterday, I received the gift card with the 100 bucks on it. The transport was from Seattle to Palm Bay, Florida. I was staying in a hotel by the time they came and picked up the car. My husband and I were a little nervous about how they were going to pick up the car. But they planned ahead and were totally prepared. They came in a vehicle that was small enough to go in downtown Bellevue so that was really nice. The car was in perfect condition and the driver was so accountable. They made everything easy. Things were perfect from start to finish. I would use Sherpa again.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Issaquah, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Washington. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
