What our Utah customers say about Sherpa:

Google
★★★★★

"Sherpa found a good driver for us who picked up and delivered our cars within the quoted time frames. The cars arrived with no damage or scratches or anything. We shipped two Subarus from southern Utah to Washington state. Sherpa offers a military discount and a clean car refund, which I appreciate."

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

"I moved from New Jersey to Utah and the carrier service that I was recommended let me down. I chose Sherpa to help me get my car to Utah from New Jersey and they were the one that helped me out. The pick-up and delivery went flawlessly and all my questions were answered."

Yelp
★★★★★

"I found Sherpa on Forbes and after reading the reviews and seeing that if the car doesn't get picked up by a driver towards the end of the 5 day period you agree on, they contribute their own money, I decided to go through with Sherpa. They stayed in communication with the company that transported my car from Utah to Michigan the entire way."

Factors that affect Utah Car Shipping Prices

  • Distance: Utah's central location in the western United States means that shipping distances can vary greatly. Longer distances, such as from Utah to the East Coast, will generally cost more than shorter routes within the Mountain West region.
  • Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for most Utah auto transports. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection from Utah's varied weather conditions but are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Pickup and Drop-off Locations: Shipping to or from urban areas like Salt Lake City or Provo is typically cheaper than rural locations. Consider meeting your carrier near major highways like I-15, I-80, or I-70 to potentially reduce costs.
  • Seasonal Factors: Utah's extreme weather conditions can affect shipping costs. Winter snow in the mountains may increase prices, while summer is peak season for auto transport, potentially leading to higher rates.
  • Vehicle Size and Type: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, which are popular in Utah for outdoor activities, may cost more to ship due to their size and weight. High-clearance vehicles common in Utah's rugged terrain are often easier to load, potentially reducing costs.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship. If your car can't roll, brake, or steer - perhaps due to off-road damage common in Utah's outdoor recreation areas - it will be more expensive to transport.
  • Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window, typically five business days, can lead to more competitive pricing. Rush services for quick moves to or from Utah will increase costs.
  • Route Popularity: Common routes, such as between Salt Lake City and other major western cities like Los Angeles or Denver, may offer more competitive pricing due to higher carrier availability.

Understanding these factors can help you plan your Utah auto transport more effectively. For a detailed breakdown of costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. If you're considering enclosed transport for added protection during Utah's varied weather conditions, learn more about open vs. enclosed car shipping. Remember, while enclosed transport offers extra protection, it's typically only necessary for high-value or classic vehicles.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your shipment at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles from the same area.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and greatest flexibility for negotiating prices. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport is typically more cost-effective.
  • Consider location: Discuss pickup and drop-off locations with Sherpa advisors to find spots near major interstates like I-15, I-70, or I-80 in Utah. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues. Car shipping companies aren't responsible for items left in the vehicle.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates and locations can lead to better pricing options. This allows carriers to optimize their routes and potentially offer you a more competitive rate.
  • Leverage Sherpa's expertise: Our experienced advisors understand Utah's unique geography and can help you navigate challenges like mountain passes or remote areas. They'll work with you to find the most cost-effective shipping solution while ensuring your vehicle arrives safely.

When shipping to or from Utah, keep these local considerations in mind:

  • Weather challenges: Utah's diverse climate can impact shipping. Snowy winters in the mountains and scorching summers in the desert areas may affect transit times.
  • Major routes: Carriers often use I-15, I-80, and I-70 for efficient transport across Utah. Familiarize yourself with these routes to better understand potential pickup and delivery locations.
  • Elevation changes: Utah's varying elevations can affect vehicle performance. Ensure your car is in good condition before shipping to handle these changes.
  • Rural areas: Some parts of Utah are remote. If you're shipping to or from a rural location, be prepared for potential adjustments to pickup or delivery points.
  • National parks consideration: If you're moving near Utah's famous national parks, inform your auto transport company. This can help in planning the most suitable route and delivery location.

A Local Guide to Vehicle Transportion in Utah

Moving to or from Utah? Here's what you need to know about vehicle requirements and settling in:

Vehicle Registration and Inspection: New Utah residents must register their vehicles within 60 days of establishing residency. You'll need to pass a safety inspection and emissions test (in certain counties) before registration. The Utah Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) handles vehicle registrations, and you can start the process online or visit a local DMV office.

Toll Systems: Utah doesn't have traditional toll roads, but it does use an electronic tolling system called Express Lanes on some highways. If you have an Express Pass from another state, you may be able to use it in Utah. Otherwise, consider getting a Utah Express Pass if you plan to use these lanes frequently.

Parking Permits: In urban areas like Salt Lake City, you might need a residential parking permit. Check with your local city office for specific requirements and how to obtain one.

Weather Considerations: Utah experiences hot summers and cold winters, especially in higher elevations. Make sure your vehicle is equipped with all-season or winter tires for snowy conditions. It's also a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your car, including blankets and ice scrapers.

Setting Up Utilities: Major electricity providers in Utah include Rocky Mountain Power and Utah Power & Light. For water services, contact your local city utilities department. Popular internet providers include Xfinity, CenturyLink, and Google Fiber in some areas.

Other Essential Tasks:

  • Update your driver's license within 30 days of moving to Utah
  • Register to vote at your local county clerk's office or online
  • Enroll children in school through your local school district
  • Get a library card at your nearest public library
  • If moving away, remember to forward your mail, cancel local memberships, and notify important contacts of your new address

By taking care of these essentials, you'll be well on your way to settling into your new Utah home or preparing for a smooth departure. Remember, Utah's unique landscape, from its desert regions to mountain ranges, means you'll want to ensure your vehicle is ready for diverse driving conditions. Whether you're navigating the bustling streets of Salt Lake City or exploring the scenic byways of national parks, being prepared will make your Utah experience all the more enjoyable.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Utah?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Utah?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to broadcast your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured.
