What our Utah customers say about Sherpa:
“I found Sherpa on Forbes and after reading the reviews and seeing that if the car doesn’t get picked up by a driver towards the end of the 5 day period you agree on, they contribute their own money, I decided to go through with Sherpa. They stayed in communication with the company that transported my car from Utah to Michigan the entire way.”
“I was glad that I chose Sherpa Auto Transport to transport my Buick from Utah to Oklahoma. Sherpa was quick and efficient at answering my questions, finding a driver, and making pick up and delivery times. The car arrived without any scratches or difficulties.”
“Sherpa found a good driver for us who picked up and delivered our cars within the quoted time frames. We shipped two Subarus from southern Utah to Washington state. Sherpa offers a military discount and a clean car refund, which I appreciate.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Utah Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Utah’s central location in the western United States affects shipping costs. Longer distances, such as from Utah to the East Coast, typically result in higher prices for car transport services.
- Route: Major interstates like I-15, I-80, and I-70 crisscross Utah, making it easier and more cost-effective to ship cars to cities along these routes. Remote locations off main highways may increase shipping costs.
- Season: Utah’s varied climate can impact car shipping prices. Winter snow in mountainous regions may cause delays or require special equipment, potentially increasing costs. Summer is often busier for auto transport, which can also affect pricing.
- Vehicle Type: The size and weight of your vehicle influence shipping costs. Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, common in Utah for outdoor activities, may cost more to ship than compact cars.
- Transport Method: Open car transport is the most economical option for shipping to or from Utah. Enclosed transport, while more expensive, offers additional protection and may be preferred for luxury or classic cars.
- Timing: Flexible pickup and delivery dates can lead to more competitive pricing. Rush orders or specific date requirements may increase the cost of car shipping services.
- Market Conditions: Fuel prices and overall demand for auto transport in Utah can cause fluctuations in car shipping rates throughout the year.
Understanding these factors can help you plan and budget for your Utah car shipping needs. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Utah car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open shipping is typically the most cost-effective option for car transport to or from Utah. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers greater flexibility and lower rates.
- Consider location: Discuss pickup and drop-off locations with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors. Choosing spots near major interstates like I-15, I-80, or I-70 can reduce costs, as these routes are more convenient for carriers.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better pricing options. Consider a range of dates rather than a specific day for your Utah auto transport.
- Opt for off-peak seasons: If possible, schedule your car shipping outside of peak moving seasons. Winter months often see lower demand for auto transport services in Utah, potentially resulting in better rates.

Utah Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When relocating to or from Utah, it’s crucial to understand the state’s unique vehicle requirements and regulations. Utah doesn’t have toll roads, so there’s no need to worry about toll readers. However, the state does require vehicle inspections for safety and emissions. New residents must register their vehicles within 60 days of establishing residency. The Utah Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) handles vehicle registration, which can be done online or in person.
Utah’s climate varies from desert to alpine, so car shipping services should take weather conditions into account when transporting vehicles. The state’s major highways, including I-15, I-80, and I-70, are well-maintained but can experience severe winter weather. When using auto transport services, ensure your vehicle is prepared for Utah’s unique conditions.
For those moving to Utah, here are some essential steps:
- Set up utilities: Rocky Mountain Power provides electricity, while water services vary by city.
- Internet providers: Major options include Xfinity, CenturyLink, and Google Fiber in select areas.
- Register to vote: This can be done online or at your county clerk’s office.
- Enroll children in school: Contact your local school district for registration information.
- Get a library card: Visit your local library with proof of residency.
If you’re moving away from Utah, remember to:
- Cancel gym memberships and other local subscriptions
- Forward your mail to your new address
- Notify the Utah DMV of your move
Whether you’re using car shipping services to move to or from Utah, understanding these local requirements and tips will help ensure a smooth transition. Remember, a reputable car shipping company can provide valuable assistance in navigating the intricacies of Utah car shipping and help you start your new chapter with ease.
Utah Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Utah?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Utah. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Utah?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Utah?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Utah?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.
Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Utah
When planning car shipping to or from Utah, it’s crucial to consider the state’s unique seasonal weather patterns. Utah experiences distinct seasons, each with its own set of challenges for auto transport.
In winter, Utah often sees heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous regions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Remove snow tires or chains before transport, as carriers can’t accommodate these.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions.
- Remove any items from the car that could freeze and potentially damage the vehicle.
During summer, parts of Utah can experience extreme heat. For car transport in these conditions:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect the car’s interior.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle.
- Check fluid levels before shipping, as heat can cause expansion.
It’s also important to consider peak shipping times in Utah:
- August and May are busy for car shipping services due to college students moving.
- Winter months see increased demand from ‘snowbirds’ heading to warmer climates.
- Summer is popular for tourists, potentially affecting auto transport availability.
To avoid higher costs and potential delays, consider scheduling your Utah car shipping a few weeks before or after these peak times. By planning ahead and considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smooth and efficient car transport experience to or from the beautiful state of Utah.
Car Shipping for College Students in Utah
When considering car shipping to Utah for college, it’s crucial to understand parking regulations at universities. Most Utah schools require parking permits, which you can usually purchase online or at campus offices. For example, the University of Utah offers various permit options, including overnight parking for on-campus residents. Utah State University has a similar system, with designated lots for students living in dorms.
If you’re living off-campus, check if your apartment includes parking. Many complexes near universities offer assigned spots, but it’s not guaranteed. For those shipping a car to Utah for school, plan ahead and research your housing’s parking situation.
Winter storage is another consideration when using car transport services to Utah. Some universities offer long-term parking options during breaks, but space is often limited. Alternatively, look into local storage facilities that offer indoor parking – this can protect your vehicle from harsh winter conditions.
Speaking of winter, Utah’s snowy climate demands preparation. Consider installing snow tires or chains, which are often required in mountainous areas. Also, ensure your car is equipped for cold starts and icy roads.
Lastly, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to Utah. Some policies may need adjustments when you ship a car to a new state. Taking these steps will ensure a smooth transition when using Utah car shipping services for your college journey.
Vehicle Shipping for Military Members in Utah
For military personnel considering car shipping to Utah, it’s essential to understand the landscape of military installations in the state. While Utah doesn’t host major naval or air force bases, it is home to Hill Air Force Base, located just south of Ogden. If you’re planning to ship a car to this area, here’s what you need to know:
• On-Base Parking: Hill AFB offers limited on-base parking for personal vehicles. However, it’s advisable to check with your unit for specific parking arrangements.
• Vehicle Registration: Military members must register their vehicles with the Utah DMV within 60 days of establishing residency. The good news? Utah offers a military exemption from certain fees.
• Off-Base Housing: Neighborhoods around Hill AFB generally have ample street parking. However, always check local regulations, especially during winter when snow removal may affect parking rules.
• Military Resources: The base boasts a well-stocked commissary and exchange, offering significant savings on groceries and household items.
When arranging Utah car shipping, remember that Sherpa Auto Transport offers a $50 military discount. We sincerely thank all service members and their families for their dedication and sacrifice.
Reviews from our Utah Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Utah customers:
“The auto transportation business is fraught with shady companies and bad reviews. After reading so many negative reviews about their competitors I was pretty nervous about the entire process but after stumbling upon Sherpa and reading their BBB reviews I took the plunge. They average 4.7/5 on their reviews. Even the few negative reviews on the BBB website were counterbalanced by excellent follow up by management. I was shipping my father’s car from Utah to New Hampshire. From start to finish they did what they said they would do from the initial contact to the reach out from the driver right through to the follow up after delivery. I was thoroughly impressed with the entire process. The feather in the cap though was getting a $20 credit on a car wash after delivery.”
“I usually don’t do reviews but have to give Sherpa an excellent review. Called on a Sunday to have my daughter’s car picked up. When most companies didn’t answer a Sherpa representative named Gary answered and was so nice and extremely helpful. My daughter’s car was picked up in California and delivered to Utah in a matter of 4 days. All very quick. The transport gentleman picking up and delivering the car was prompt and professional. All at a competitive price.”
“Sherpa did exactly what they said they were going to do at the price they promised. They were easy to reach whenever I called and the driver kept in constant communication. Transporting our new car from Utah to New York couldn’t have gone better.”
“After reviewing multiple transportation companies I settled on Sherpa. A lot of the other companies I reviewed talked about lack of communication. That was not the case with Sherpa. They were very patient in answering ALL of my many questions. They bid out the job and the company that actually transported the vehicle was amazing. Again, amazing communication and very friendly. The gentleman that picked up the car was a pro. We live in a rural area, so there weren’t a lot of large areas for us to meet up. He was very accommodating. The car was being transported from Alabama to Utah, so I was a little nervous with it being such a long trip. My daughter received the car in the same condition it left in. I’m so thrilled with the whole experience. I hope I won’t have to do it again any time soon, but if I did I would definitely use Sherpa.”
“I needed to transport my car from UT to TX. I had gotten a couple of quotes from various companies and Sherpa offered me the best price. On top of that they had the price lock guarantee which helped me feel more secure in making my decision with them. The customer service kept me informed and were quick to help me. They worked with me and my driver to arrange a pickup time that would work for me. The driver they selected was great and they got me my car in a safe and timely manner. 10/10 recommend.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Utah, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Utah. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
