Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs Icon

Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Waco customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The Sherpa representative was great. When she said she was gonna call me, she called me. And when she said she was gonna email me information, she did. Compared to the last three experiences I had, it was the best. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, thinking this could be a big pain in the neck, but it didn’t and they were really good. The quote was really high, but they were competitive. The vehicles were delivered a couple of hours earlier to Waco.”

Google
★★★★★

“Sherpa was great, customer service was amazing. I’m in the military and I got stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. But I had a family in North Carolina and I was shipping my 2006 Chevy Colorado from Texas to North Carolina. Kate from Sherpa had solutions not excuses. Yes, I did pay for expedited service, but she got a carrier assigned the same day and saved the day!”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“My experience was great start to finish. I was moving from KY to TX the next day. To my surprise they said the car would arrive in Texas the next day. I expected it to take a few days. I landed in Texas the next morning and as I was leaving the airport in an Uber, my phone rings saying that my car had been unloaded and the driver was waiting on me. How in the world?!”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Waco, TX. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, as they require more fuel and time.
  • Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Waco. While enclosed carriers offer extra protection, they’re typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Location Accessibility: Waco’s central location along I-35 makes it relatively easy to access, potentially lowering shipping costs. However, if you’re shipping to or from more remote areas outside Waco, prices may increase.
  • Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship to Waco than smaller cars due to the space and fuel they require.
  • Seasonal Factors: Waco’s hot summers can affect car shipping prices. The peak season for auto transport, including summer months, often sees higher rates due to increased demand.
  • Timeframe: If you need expedited shipping to Waco, expect to pay more. Flexible pickup and delivery dates can help reduce costs.

Waco, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Waco?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Waco. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Waco?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Waco?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Waco?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. “We had the car dropped off with some grandparents because we weren’t there yet, and that worked pretty smoothly. But I didn`t get to take advantage of the free carwash afterward because of the delay and actually picking up the car from my grandparents in Waco.”

“We were moving from Chicago land area to LA so I needed to ship my car. I reached out to an open site, which gave me a million people. I started reading and they were just relentless. I was not moving for a while. I had no idea if it was gonna cost $1,000 to ship my car or $5,000. I was just trying to get estimates. My move was never an exact date to pick up the car. I was waiting on selling our house and a bunch of other things. I started to find someone again and Sherpa came up highly recommended. It had great reviews and a very competitive price. They didn`t inundate me. It was like, “When I figure it out, I`ll let you know.” Another issue was when we were moving and getting ourselves out here, we didn`t have an address because we didn`t find a house yet. Sherpa picked up the car and we didn`t even 100% know where we were looking to move to yet. That was pretty interesting. I had to update them. We were dealing with two people and they were fine. They understood and were very easy to talk to. Someone then called and said they were with Sherpa and were picking up the car. They were great. It took four days from start to finish. They even came in a day early than they said. The driver would text me every time like where he was gonna be, where he`s at now, and when he was gonna get there. He texted me the day before saying he was going to be in the vicinity at around X amount of time. It was perfect. The driver knew where we are going and dropping off my car was super easy. He was at the mall and it was great because he said he might be running late. I was having dinner with friends. I told the driver to let me know when he got there and I would run out and give him my keys. He kept me in the loop the entire time. We had snow so that was an issue. It was the same thing going in. We had to go a little further but it was not a big deal. He was right on like what time to pick up so that was fine. My husband said the car was gonna come washed but it didn`t. The car arrived really dirty but that didn`t bother me. I just did that drive so I understood. I was driving from Chicago to here. I went through a windstorm or tornadoes through Oklahoma, snow and fall staff, and a sandstorm somewhere in Texas. It definitely was a lot of debris. On the whole, call direct and book Sherpa. It was a no-brainer. You put your stuff in and they come.”

“I had purchased a car from Texas and I needed it transported to me here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sherpa was within $100 of the typical cost to bring it up. There were some companies that advertised $400, which I know wouldn`t even cover the gas, so I didn`t even think about them. But from looking at reviews on people that have used Sherpa, I felt comfortable with them, so I went with them. Their service representative gave me a price, and I told him I had a price similar to that, but a little less. First, he gave me all of their credibility as far as how they go about their business, and then the insurance of the car. And if it would make a difference, they would offer a $100 card of return for that $100 difference, so I wouldn`t be paying any more. If there was a problem with the difference in cost once the car was on the trailer, they would pay the difference. It all worked out fine. There was a problem where they couldn`t identify my little town where I live. So they asked me what the major city was near me, which was 20 miles away, and it`s Pittsburgh. I gave them that and that was the zip code that they attached to it with the transport guy. When it got close to the delivery, he realized I was on the other side of Pittsburgh from where he was coming and it would take more time and fuel to get over to where I`m at. So it was an additional $75, which the company took care of after the fact. I paid for it upfront, and they reimbursed it. They handled it really well. The man that delivered was a super guy. He really handled the car well, he was polite, and I would definitely recommend him again. He notified me the day that he would be bringing it, and he notified me within a couple hours of the delivery. Then we agreed on a place for him to drop it because he can`t get to my house. It sits back off a private lane that it`d be difficult to get through. So we met there and it all worked out great. The car was in the same condition as what I expected when I bought it in Texas. Overall, Sherpa was really professional and they do what they say they`re gonna do. The only thing that`s important in life is that you do what you say you`re gonna do.”

“My daughter was moving from New Jersey to California. We had to use Sherpa, and it was an amazing experience. The last time she moved from Texas to New Jersey, we used a different transport and it was a nightmare. Her car got damaged and it was just off. They weren`t there when they said they were gonna be there. But as far as Sherpa, when they said they were gonna be there, they were there. They picked up the car when they said they would. They dropped it off when they said they would. The car was in the same condition that it left. Nothing happened to it. I would definitely use Sherpa again. If I decide to move across the country to California to be near my daughter, I would use Sherpa to transport my car. When my daughter moved a couple years ago, we looked through a lot of different transport companies. We remember Sherpa`s having such a great rating, and so my daughter really investigated all their companies. She said, “If they can find a driver, I definitely wanna use Sherpa.” The price was reasonable too. Another place she wanted to use was $2,500. They said it`s gonna cost this amount of dollars to ship the car, and that was exactly what it cost to ship the car, which is the way it should always be. It wasn`t more or less. So, between the price and the quality of the service, we were very pleased. The customer service at Sherpa always returned our phone calls promptly. In fact, they gave us a certain amount of time that it would take to retain a driver. It was two days later or the next day, and we had a driver that was gonna take her car out to California. It was quicker than we thought it would be. He also dropped it off. The last time we did the transport, when they brought it back to New Jersey, they refused to come into my neighborhood, which does have a wide street. She had to meet the driver somewhere. Here with Sherpa, they came in right in front of my house and picked up the car. When my daughter was out in California, she said they came right in front of her apartment and dropped off the car. The car was in the same condition it left. There was white on it because apparently, he went through a snow storm. Sherpa was reliable. They were nice and friendly and helpful.”

“I called Sherpa Auto Transport and I got somebody. It was a person who spoke English. That made me happy because I felt we were communicating. And we had a discussion. He told me how it all worked and how much it would cost. We talked about dates. And somehow they got back to me. They set it up. It was very smooth. They told me there would be a driver. Somebody said he would call. I got anxious about the whole thing. Because I`m in the middle of Manhattan. My car is in a garage. I can drive it where they need to. But how would I do it in the middle of Manhattan? The driver called me up and said, “I`ll be there in the blah, blah, minutes”. And I went over to the garage and got the car. And I thought, “What am I going to do? I`m going to have to park it somewhere. And then I`m gonna find a parking space.†It ended up being nothing at all. So, I waited on 55th Street. Second Avenue goes from one end of Manhattan all the way down to the other end. It goes from north to south. And he said, “I`ll meet you at 54th in a second. I`ll have my transport there.” I drove over there. And there he was with the transport. He got out. And we looked at the car. We had a chit-chat about it. And he said, “All right. See you later.” He got in the car. Drove it on the transport. I turned around, took a picture of it and left. The driver was a sweetheart. He picked the car up on a Friday. And it was delivered on a Tuesday. Whoever did it in Texas was a different person than I talked to, who was the ultimate driver. He called her a half an hour. He said he was 10 miles out. But she didn`t answer the phone. So, the driver called me. And I called her. And he called her. She lives in Austin, Texas. She lives more out in the suburbs. And she said, he didn`t want to bring it on her street because there were too many trees. She said, “I just jogged over to the, you know. It wasn`t very far.” She sent me a thing and said, “There`s this little ding here.” I said, “Oh, that`s an old one.” There was nothing. And he gave her the keys. She signed it, she gave him the check, and that was that. It was very smooth. They had their stuff together. The car got there in no time. Sherpa was great. Everybody was professional. I would recommend them.”

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Waco, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
