What our The Woodlands customers say about Sherpa:
“There was a little bit of confusion with the transporter. He called and asked if he could show up that day but I was already at work. I work 45 miles away, so he rescheduled and showed up the next day. When he loaded the vehicle, he took tons of pictures. He was super professional. When he got ready to deliver the vehicle, my sister said he called at 10:30 at night, wanting to deliver the vehicle. They told him he had to come in the morning which he did. I was happy with Sherpa. When we`ll bring the van back in the fall, I`ll use them again.”
“We were very happy with Sherpa in transporting a car from Texas to our daughter in college in Boston. The car was picked up promptly and the driver was experienced and professional. We had no issues and were updated as to when the car would reach the destination.”
“I had a very good experience with Sherpa and Kate! I booked with them to move a car from Texas to San Diego. Kate had solutions not excuses. Yes, I did pay for expedited service, but she got a carrier assigned the same day and saved the day! The car was picked up on January 4th in Texas and arrived ahead of schedule in San Diego on January 7th.”

Factors that affect The Woodlands Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey from or to The Woodlands, TX significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but the cost per mile often decreases for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from The Woodlands. Enclosed transport, while offering extra protection, is typically 50% more expensive and may take longer.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than compact cars due to the space they occupy and their weight.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: The Woodlands’ proximity to Houston and major highways like I-45 can make shipping more affordable. However, if you’re shipping to or from more remote areas, costs may increase.
- Seasonal Factors: The Woodlands’ warm climate means fewer weather-related delays, but summer months can see higher prices due to increased demand for car shipping services.
- Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates when shipping your car to or from The Woodlands.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your car shipment at least two weeks in advance. This increases the chances of carriers bundling your vehicle with others in The Woodlands, TX, potentially lowering costs.
- Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and greatest flexibility for negotiating prices. It’s suitable for most vehicles, though some may require enclosed transport.
- Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-45 or I-69. The Woodlands’ proximity to Houston can be advantageous for finding cost-effective routes.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and potential liability issues. Car shipping companies aren’t responsible for items left in the vehicle.
- Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates and locations can lead to better options and potential savings on your auto transport.
- Consider seasonal timing: The Woodlands’ mild winters make it an attractive destination year-round, but summer months may see higher demand for car shipping services. Planning around peak seasons could help reduce costs.

The Woodlands, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from The Woodlands?

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from The Woodlands?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

Reviews from our Texas Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Texas customers:
“I looked at and talked to many different companies, and I would get my vehicle faster using Sherpa. I didn’t do expedited, but it was kind of expedited. The other companies had a four to six-day window where they would pick it up and then it was a four to six-day window when they would drop it off. That Friday, Sherpa was telling me that they would either pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. I didn’t have to pay the deposit until they got a driver. It was Friday when they got the driver. At that point, the driver contacted me and informed me that he would be able to pick up on Monday or Tuesday. He picked it up on Tuesday and he said that he would be dropping it off on Friday, but he ended up dropping it off on Thursday night because that was when he came home. The car’s condition was great. They had a piece of paper on the floor so that no dirt got on the floors. Sherpa’s cost was a little bit more expensive than everybody else is, but it was well worth it. The driver was courteous. He kept me informed all along the way. He brought it a day early. I was very satisfied.”
“Sherpa had one of the easiest websites to navigate, and then they recognized right away that with my vehicle, they couldn’t give me a quote online. They told me to call. Other websites gave me a quote and then changed it later because they realized the dimensions are not quite the same. So, I appreciated the straightforwardness of Sherpa. It was super easy to schedule a pickup. My car got there in less time than I thought it would take, and then my parents on the other end said it was really easy to pick it up and it was painless. So, everything was pretty easy. Communication with the driver was not too much, thank goodness, because I wouldn’t have wanted too much either. He called me when he was about an hour away, and then he called me when he arrived. Then, on the other end, he called my parents when he was about an hour away. He got there the night before, so he called my mom the next morning and my mom was able to go and pick it up that morning at her convenience. Overall, Sherpa was easy to book and there weren’t any surprises. Everything was very clear and straightforward and I’d use Sherpa again.”
“I am truly grateful I found Sherpa Auto Transport. This was my first time arranging transportation and needless to say it was really overwhelming. I went online and found so many companies, but just had no idea how the process even worked. I contacted some and got quotes from a lot of them, but it was just frustrating because I wasn’t convinced by any. Of course, I read reviews and spoke with a few companies. Some of which were nice and other not so much. I just couldn’t decide which company to hire. What made up my mind was that Sherpa was the only one that actually took the time to explain how the process worked. They were extremely nice and patient with me. I needed to transport two vehicles from Texas to Florida in a very short period of time and not only were they able to find a driver, the price was reasonable. I also must say the driver was friendly and helped out with the inspection, he also kept in touch and delivered right on time as he promised. Felt confidant that my vehicles would arrive safe and they did. If I ever need car transport again I will book with Sherpa and I definitely recommend them!!”
“I had my daughters car transported from SA, Texas to Idaho and Sherpa is THE BEST!!! Always friendly, informative, and TOP NOTCH customer service!!! The company that they got to transport the car was equally amazing! The gentleman from Horizon Carriers had excellent communication, showed up when he said he would, and was detailed in checking out the car. The car left TX on a Monday at about 9:45 pm and arrived in N. Idaho on Wednesday at about 3:45 pm! The carrier was friendly and customer service was excellent! The street where he picked up the car was too narrow for his truck, so he parked the truck, walked to the pick up address, checked out the car, filled out the BOL and drive by daughter’s car to the truck and loaded it! Great work Horizon Carriers and superb vetting process on the part of Sherpa Auto Transport for choosing only the best of the best for their customers! This was our first time transporting a car so we were nervous, but Sherpa made it a truly stress-free experience!!! Thank you for caring about your customers and putting their needs first!”
“I retained Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a SUV from TX to NJ. I opted for a flexible 5 day window pick up and open transport. They weren’t the cheapest but they weren’t the most expensive either. I went with them because they had a $100k cargo insurance and provided reimbursement for a car cleaning 2 weeks from drop off. The deposit and final payment was all relayed by credit card, which was convenient. After a deposit was made, they sent my order to dispatch to match with a driver. I made the initial order 2 weeks before pick up and was assigned a driver a few days before the start of my pick up window. The driver contacted me the night before pick up of their expected arrival time. When they arrived, we walked around the car to confer the condition of the vehicle and they took the vehicle to load onto their trailer. It took about a week and they had a local driver drop off at the destination who also walked through the condition of the car. It was nice, simple, easy, and they were communicative. Would definitely recommend and use again if necessary!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in The Woodlands, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
