Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Round Rock customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The service is good and fast. I shipped my truck from Los Angeles CA To Round Rock TX. It was delivered in less than a week. They charged what they said. The only thing when the truck was picked up, they called me 40 minutes before, they should call hours before or a day before, so we can be ready. But overall good service, I recommend this company.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“They were great! Treated my new specialty car with the best care, kept on schedule, and kept me updated. They also had to transport the vehicle through some tough weather. They did a great job and I will use them again!”

Google
★★★★★

“I had a very good experience with Sherpa and Kate! I had booked with another highly rated autotransporter in early December for a January 3rd move from Texas to San Diego, and the car had to be there no later than January 9th. Several days before the scheduled pickup, there was still no carrier selected and daily chats just kept saying they would update me when a carrier was selected.”

Factors that affect Round Rock Car Shipping Prices

Car Transport Distance
Pickup and Drop Off Location

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Round Rock, TX significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and affordable option for auto transport to or from Round Rock. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection for high-value vehicles against Central Texas weather conditions like intense sun or occasional hailstorms.
  • Location Accessibility: Round Rock’s proximity to major highways like I-35 and SH 45 makes it relatively easy to access, potentially lowering shipping costs compared to more remote locations.
  • Seasonal Factors: Summer months and January typically see higher car shipping prices due to increased demand. Round Rock’s mild winters may result in more consistent pricing year-round compared to areas with harsh winter conditions.
  • Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Non-running cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the price. Most standard vehicles in good condition are more affordable to transport.
  • Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower costs. Rush or guaranteed delivery services to or from Round Rock will increase the price of your auto transport.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Round Rock, TX. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Round Rock car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-35 or SH 45. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall car transport price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues during auto transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can lead to better options and potential savings on your Round Rock car shipping service. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective transport times.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer when demand for car shipping services is high. Planning your auto transport during off-peak times can result in more competitive rates.

Round Rock, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Round Rock?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Round Rock?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. “I looked at and talked to many different companies, and I would get my vehicle faster using Sherpa. I didn’t do expedited, but it was kind of expedited. The other companies had a four to six-day window where they would pick it up and then it was a four to six-day window when they would drop it off. That Friday, Sherpa was telling me that they would either pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. I didn’t have to pay the deposit until they got a driver. It was Friday when they got the driver. At that point, the driver contacted me and informed me that he would be able to pick up on Monday or Tuesday. He picked it up on Tuesday and he said that he would be dropping it off on Friday, but he ended up dropping it off on Thursday night because that was when he came home. The car’s condition was great. They had a piece of paper on the floor so that no dirt got on the floors. Sherpa’s cost was a little bit more expensive than everybody else is, but it was well worth it. The driver was courteous. He kept me informed all along the way. He brought it a day early. I was very satisfied.”

“I Googled the top 10 shipping companies, and Sherpa was number 2. I called the first one, and they didn’t answer, so I called Sherpa. They answered and they were really nice. They told me some information that others didn’t or tried to withhold, and that was pretty nice in terms of transparency. I’m glad that I was able to connect with Sherpa. Because there were some that called me to give me offers and there were some of them that were bad mouthing others. I appreciate it when I spoke with Sherpa that they weren’t like that. It was more so on the professional side and just trying to help me get my car to where it needed to go. The guy that came to get the car was really awesome. He’s even from Texas, so I knew that he was familiar with the area. Communication was awesome as well. On his way to Cali, he kept me notified every half hour or so. When he got to the pickup location, he was pretty respectful in terms of not wanting to drive the big vehicle into this gated community, because a lot of them parked their cars outside along the road. I met the driver outside and he loaded my car with very good care and got it to Texas in less than the time I was told. I didn’t make it the the delivery location before he did, and he even helped out my family. My car is manual, and my parents didn’t know how to do that, so he was nice enough to help put it in the garage for them. Overall, it was a great experience and if I needed another vehicle transported, I would definitely go with Sherpa.”

“Sherpa had one of the easiest websites to navigate, and then they recognized right away that with my vehicle, they couldn’t give me a quote online. They told me to call. Other websites gave me a quote and then changed it later because they realized the dimensions are not quite the same. So, I appreciated the straightforwardness of Sherpa. It was super easy to schedule a pickup. My car got there in less time than I thought it would take, and then my parents on the other end said it was really easy to pick it up and it was painless. So, everything was pretty easy. Communication with the driver was not too much, thank goodness, because I wouldn’t have wanted too much either. He called me when he was about an hour away, and then he called me when he arrived. Then, on the other end, he called my parents when he was about an hour away. He got there the night before, so he called my mom the next morning and my mom was able to go and pick it up that morning at her convenience. Overall, Sherpa was easy to book and there weren’t any surprises. Everything was very clear and straightforward and I’d use Sherpa again.”

“My youngest was in college in Michigan and a family that had befriended him had fallen on hard times. Their daughter was his roommate and she needed a car for her summer work program because she had to drive to get this internship. I just bought a new car and I had my old one that was still in very good shape. I didn’t need it and I don’t really need the money for it. I said that I’d give it to her but I couldn’t drive it up there. I was already going to fly it there to help him move. I found Sherpa and they had a really nice arrangement where we paid an upfront cost for them to find a driver and she just had to pay the driver. It was a really good thing for me because I wanted her commitment to pay something for the vehicle. It was a reasonable amount. That worked out really well for me. Sherpa was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The driver was very polite, courteous, and prompt. He got here on time and called me. He dropped off the vehicle and it was fine. I was very happy with the service. It was my first-time experience transporting a vehicle. I did it online and Sherpa came back promptly with a good price. I had contacted four other companies and some of them didn’t even respond. The ones that did were very, “Well, we’ll let you know,” that kind of thing. Sherpa was very good at getting me a price, “This is what it’s gonna cost.” It was getting closer to the deadline and they’d given me a window and they were still within the window. It was just so much was going on so I was a little nervous. I called Sherpa and at the time, you get an answering service thing because they get a lot of calls. I didn’t have time to wait. They called me right back and said, “We still haven’t found a driver for you, but we’ll get you something right now.” They didn’t realize I was anxious. They had a lot of information on their website. They were very prompt and they allayed my fears and said, “We haven’t found anyone yet, but if you need a name right now, we’ll get you one.” It worked out really well. In the payment way, the driver that they got wanted a little more cash so they reduced their fee that they would take from my card. But the problem was the young lady that was receiving the car only had so much cash and she’s a student. I said, “Well, look, can I just pay that difference to the driver upfront?” They said that was fine. When the driver came, I said, “I’ll give you the cash and then you can just email that you got the money.” He sent me a text that this was received so I had a record. That made me feel comfortable that he received that cash. When he arrived, he just took the additional cash from the young lady I was sending the car to. They were flexible and honest about the transaction. I would encourage people to use Sherpa. To drive the car would have cost me just as much money with hotel stays and gas. The stress would have been so much more too. You have to drive it 1,800 miles for three days and it would have been terrible. Sherpa delivered the car right when they said they were going to deliver it.”

“I spoke to Dylan on the phone and he was very polite and very cordial. He helped me get through the process and he was able to help me with all my questions very easily and was able to find me a good quote within the desired schedule that I had. Also, the price lock guarantee was one of the characteristics I really liked working with Sherpa. The driver was very polite. They helped me take my car from the road onto the truck and they seemed like a generally pleasant person to talk to. They didn’t speak English that properly but he was able to communicate and helped me set up both the pick-up and drop-off pretty well. They contacted me hours before the drop-off. But when they went to pick it up, they told me 15 minutes beforehand and I wasn’t ready so we had to reschedule.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Round Rock, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
