Factors that affect Richardson Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Richardson, TX and your destination significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but the cost per mile typically decreases for longer journeys.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Richardson. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection but are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Seasonal Factors: Richardson’s hot summers can affect car shipping prices. Peak moving seasons, like summer months, often see higher rates due to increased demand.
- Route Accessibility: Richardson’s proximity to major highways like I-635 and US-75 can positively impact shipping costs, as these routes are easily accessible for carriers.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are less expensive to ship than inoperable ones, which require special equipment for loading and unloading.
- Delivery Timeframe: Expedited shipping options are available for urgent transport needs but come at a premium compared to standard delivery times.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Richardson, TX. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Richardson car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways like I-635 or US-75. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove all personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues for the auto transport company.
- Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of off-peak times or carrier availability in the Richardson area.
- Consider seasonality: Auto transport rates can vary based on the time of year. If possible, try to avoid peak moving seasons in Richardson, such as summer months or college move-in periods.

Richardson, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Richardson?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Richardson. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Richardson?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Richardson?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Richardson?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. “RoadRunner is a joke, and Sherpa cleaned up their mess with ease. Go with these professionals. They know what they`re doing, and they`re damn good at it in Richardson.”
“Great customer service from the initial phone call to the delivery. Car arrived in great shape in Richardson, Texas.”
“We were moving from Chicago land area to LA so I needed to ship my car. I reached out to an open site, which gave me a million people. I started reading and they were just relentless. I was not moving for a while. I had no idea if it was gonna cost $1,000 to ship my car or $5,000. I was just trying to get estimates. My move was never an exact date to pick up the car. I was waiting on selling our house and a bunch of other things. I started to find someone again and Sherpa came up highly recommended. It had great reviews and a very competitive price. They didn`t inundate me. It was like, “When I figure it out, I`ll let you know.” Another issue was when we were moving and getting ourselves out here, we didn`t have an address because we didn`t find a house yet. Sherpa picked up the car and we didn`t even 100% know where we were looking to move to yet. That was pretty interesting. I had to update them. We were dealing with two people and they were fine. They understood and were very easy to talk to. Someone then called and said they were with Sherpa and were picking up the car. They were great. It took four days from start to finish. They even came in a day early than they said. The driver would text me every time like where he was gonna be, where he`s at now, and when he was gonna get there. He texted me the day before saying he was going to be in the vicinity at around X amount of time. It was perfect. The driver knew where we are going and dropping off my car was super easy. He was at the mall and it was great because he said he might be running late. I was having dinner with friends. I told the driver to let me know when he got there and I would run out and give him my keys. He kept me in the loop the entire time. We had snow so that was an issue. It was the same thing going in. We had to go a little further but it was not a big deal. He was right on like what time to pick up so that was fine. My husband said the car was gonna come washed but it didn`t. The car arrived really dirty but that didn`t bother me. I just did that drive so I understood. I was driving from Chicago to here. I went through a windstorm or tornadoes through Oklahoma, snow and fall staff, and a sandstorm somewhere in Texas. It definitely was a lot of debris. On the whole, call direct and book Sherpa. It was a no-brainer. You put your stuff in and they come.”
“I had purchased a car from Texas and I needed it transported to me here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sherpa was within $100 of the typical cost to bring it up. There were some companies that advertised $400, which I know wouldn`t even cover the gas, so I didn`t even think about them. But from looking at reviews on people that have used Sherpa, I felt comfortable with them, so I went with them. Their service representative gave me a price, and I told him I had a price similar to that, but a little less. First, he gave me all of their credibility as far as how they go about their business, and then the insurance of the car. And if it would make a difference, they would offer a $100 card of return for that $100 difference, so I wouldn`t be paying any more. If there was a problem with the difference in cost once the car was on the trailer, they would pay the difference. It all worked out fine. There was a problem where they couldn`t identify my little town where I live. So they asked me what the major city was near me, which was 20 miles away, and it`s Pittsburgh. I gave them that and that was the zip code that they attached to it with the transport guy. When it got close to the delivery, he realized I was on the other side of Pittsburgh from where he was coming and it would take more time and fuel to get over to where I`m at. So it was an additional $75, which the company took care of after the fact. I paid for it upfront, and they reimbursed it. They handled it really well. The man that delivered was a super guy. He really handled the car well, he was polite, and I would definitely recommend him again. He notified me the day that he would be bringing it, and he notified me within a couple hours of the delivery. Then we agreed on a place for him to drop it because he can`t get to my house. It sits back off a private lane that it`d be difficult to get through. So we met there and it all worked out great. The car was in the same condition as what I expected when I bought it in Texas. Overall, Sherpa was really professional and they do what they say they`re gonna do. The only thing that`s important in life is that you do what you say you`re gonna do.”
“My daughter was moving from New Jersey to California. We had to use Sherpa, and it was an amazing experience. The last time she moved from Texas to New Jersey, we used a different transport and it was a nightmare. Her car got damaged and it was just off. They weren`t there when they said they were gonna be there. But as far as Sherpa, when they said they were gonna be there, they were there. They picked up the car when they said they would. They dropped it off when they said they would. The car was in the same condition that it left. Nothing happened to it. I would definitely use Sherpa again. If I decide to move across the country to California to be near my daughter, I would use Sherpa to transport my car. When my daughter moved a couple years ago, we looked through a lot of different transport companies. We remember Sherpa`s having such a great rating, and so my daughter really investigated all their companies. She said, “If they can find a driver, I definitely wanna use Sherpa.” The price was reasonable too. Another place she wanted to use was $2,500. They said it`s gonna cost this amount of dollars to ship the car, and that was exactly what it cost to ship the car, which is the way it should always be. It wasn`t more or less. So, between the price and the quality of the service, we were very pleased. The customer service at Sherpa always returned our phone calls promptly. In fact, they gave us a certain amount of time that it would take to retain a driver. It was two days later or the next day, and we had a driver that was gonna take her car out to California. It was quicker than we thought it would be. He also dropped it off. The last time we did the transport, when they brought it back to New Jersey, they refused to come into my neighborhood, which does have a wide street. She had to meet the driver somewhere. Here with Sherpa, they came in right in front of my house and picked up the car. When my daughter was out in California, she said they came right in front of her apartment and dropped off the car. The car was in the same condition it left. There was white on it because apparently, he went through a snow storm. Sherpa was reliable. They were nice and friendly and helpful.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Richardson, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
