“Sherpa is a good alternative to driving the vehicle yourself. I used it to get my daughter’s car from school back home. It was an 800-mile transport from Dallas to Atlanta. The driver was fine and the transport was much quicker than I anticipated. It was there in one day. The guy came right to my house and took the car off the carrier. The car was fine. There was nothing damaged or dirty.”
“I was shipping my car home from Los Angeles to Dallas, it was really hard to find a driver and Sherpa came through with their price guarantee I was able to get me a great driver showed up on time took care of the car and delivered it perfectly. Note: These figures reflect the past 12 months of Sherpa Auto Transport’s vehicle shipments to or from Dallas, TX. When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Dallas Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey affects car shipping costs. Transporting a vehicle to or from Dallas, TX to nearby cities like Houston or Austin will be less expensive than shipping to or from more distant locations like New York or Los Angeles.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Dallas. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers protection from Texas’s intense sun, occasional hailstorms, and road debris for high-value or classic cars.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Dallas’s central location and extensive highway network (including I-20, I-30, I-35E, and I-45) make it easier and often cheaper to ship cars to or from the city. Rural areas outside Dallas may incur higher costs.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks popular in Texas, typically cost more to ship than smaller cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Season: Summer months and January are peak seasons for auto transport in Dallas, potentially leading to higher prices. The mild winters in Dallas can make off-season shipping more feasible than in northern states.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are less expensive to ship. If your car doesn’t start or roll, inform your auto transport company as it may require special equipment for loading.
- Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower car shipping costs to or from Dallas. Rush or guaranteed delivery services will increase the price.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Dallas car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is the most cost-effective option for most vehicles. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed transport.
- Select convenient locations: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find pickup and drop-off points near major highways like I-35E or I-635. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall price.
- Remove personal items: Empty your vehicle before transport. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about personal belongings during shipping.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Dallas auto transport. Carriers may offer discounts for filling gaps in their schedules.
- Consider terminal-to-door or door-to-terminal: While Sherpa specializes in door-to-door service, discussing partial terminal options with your advisor might reveal cost-saving opportunities for your Dallas car shipping needs.

Dallas Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When shipping your car to or from Dallas, TX, it’s crucial to be aware of local regulations and prepare for your move. Dallas car shipping can be a breeze with the right knowledge. First, consider removing your TollTag if you have one, as it’s used for North Texas Tollway Authority roads. This prevents unexpected charges during auto transport.
Texas requires annual vehicle inspections, so ensure your car is up-to-date before registering it. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles handles vehicle registration, which you must complete within 30 days of moving. Dallas’s climate can be harsh on vehicles, with hot summers and occasional hail storms. When using car shipping services, ask about enclosed transport options to protect your vehicle.
For parking, many neighborhoods require permits. Check with your local homeowners’ association or the City of Dallas for specific requirements. When settling in, set up utilities through providers like Oncor (electricity) and Dallas Water Utilities. For internet, popular options include AT&T, Spectrum, and Frontier.
Don’t forget these essential moving tasks:
- Update your driver’s license within 90 days
- Register to vote
- Enroll children in school (Dallas Independent School District)
- Get a library card from Dallas Public Library
If you’re moving away from Dallas, remember to:
- Cancel local memberships
- Forward your mail
- Notify your car insurance provider
Whether you’re using a car shipping company to move to or from Dallas, understanding these local nuances will make your transition smoother. With its extensive highway system, including I-20, I-30, and I-35, Dallas is well-connected for easy car transport. By planning ahead and choosing reliable car shipping services, you’ll be cruising down the streets of Big D or your new hometown in no time!
Dallas, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Dallas?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Dallas. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Dallas?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Dallas?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Dallas?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.
Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Dallas
When planning car shipping to or from Dallas, TX, it’s crucial to consider the city’s unique seasonal factors. Dallas experiences a humid subtropical climate with distinct seasons, each presenting its own challenges for auto transport.
Summer Considerations: Dallas summers are hot, with temperatures often exceeding 100°F (38°C). If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Use a sunshade to protect your vehicle’s interior from intense heat.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the car to prevent melting or damage.
- Consider scheduling early morning or evening pickups to avoid peak heat.
Winter Precautions: While Dallas winters are generally mild, occasional ice storms can occur. For winter car transport:
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping.
- Remove snow tires or chains before transport, as carriers can’t ship vehicles with these.
- Avoid leaving liquids that might freeze in the vehicle.
Peak Seasons: Dallas car shipping can be busier during certain times:
- Summer months see increased demand due to family relocations.
- Late August and early January coincide with college move-in and move-out periods.
- Spring break (typically in March) can also see a spike in auto transport requests.
To avoid higher rates and potential delays during these peak times, consider scheduling your car shipping services a few weeks before or after these periods. By planning ahead and taking these seasonal factors into account, you can ensure a smooth and efficient car transport experience to or from Dallas, TX.
Car Shipping for College Students in Dallas, Texas
When considering car shipping to Dallas for college, it’s crucial to understand each university’s parking policies. At the University of Texas at Dallas, students must register their vehicles and purchase a parking permit. Most on-campus housing includes parking, but off-campus students should verify parking availability with their landlords. Southern Methodist University requires parking permits for all vehicles on campus, with different options available based on student status. For Dallas Baptist University, parking is generally included with on-campus housing, but commuter students need to purchase permits. When shipping your car to Dallas for school, remember to update your insurance and roadside assistance coverage to ensure validity in Texas. While snow tires aren’t typically necessary in Dallas, be prepared for occasional ice storms. Most universities offer long-term parking options during breaks, but it’s best to confirm with your specific school. By planning ahead and understanding these parking nuances, you can ensure a smooth transition when using auto transport services to bring your car to Dallas for your college experience.
Vehicle Shipping for Military Members in Dallas, Texas
While Dallas itself doesn’t host major military installations, several important bases are located within driving distance. Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, about 35 miles west, offers on-base parking for active-duty personnel. However, space can be limited, so some members opt for off-base housing with ample parking. The surrounding neighborhoods generally have open parking policies. For those shipping a car to the area, it’s essential to update vehicle registration within 30 days of arrival. Military families can access resources like the base commissary and exchange for discounted shopping. If you’re planning car transport to Dallas or nearby bases, remember that Sherpa Auto Transport offers a $50 military discount to thank service members and their families. Whether you’re shipping a car for a permanent change of station or temporary duty, our Dallas car shipping experts can help ensure a smooth transition. We appreciate your service and are here to support your auto transport needs in Texas.
Reviews from our Texas Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Texas customers:
“We were in transition, moving from California to North Carolina, so we had several vehicles and one of them was an older Jeep Wrangler that I wanted to send to my son. He`s in Baltimore, Maryland. So, it’s from San Diego to Baltimore, Maryland. Our plans were very fluid early in the summer so originally, we arranged with Sherpa to send the vehicle to North Carolina in May. That changed because we figured out that we needed the vehicle in California through the summer. So, I contacted Sherpa and put it on hold until September. They were good to work with. They put it on hold like I requested and followed up several times to make sure things were still on track and to get good timing. Once our plans were firmed up, I was able to reach back out to them and we arranged the transport very quickly. We were living on our boat this summer and the guy came one night. I explained that to him and that we were with the Jeep. This was on the day of the pickup and I told him there was no rush. Any time that night was fine and he could just text me and let me know when he was there and I would meet him out front. And that’s exactly what happened. It was great. We looked over the vehicle and he did probably as good of a job as I did in terms of documenting the condition of the vehicle. Then he was good to go. I didn`t need to watch him load it onto his truck. He did that and I went back down to the boat. It all hinged on communication and it was very good. I`m very particular that if the vendor doesn`t meet expectations or if they perform poorly or not at par, I`m very unlikely to use them again. But I`ve used Sherpa twice. I used them a year and a half ago when my son was moving from Boston to Dallas, and that was a seamless transaction as well. So, when it came time to move the Jeep from California to Baltimore, I didn`t even look around. I just called Sherpa and got back in touch with them, got a quote, and everything went smoothly. We have a BMW convertible in San Diego and in January or February, we`re gonna move it to North Carolina as well and I`ll be contacting Sherpa to handle that transition also.”
“Sherpa had one of the easiest websites to navigate, and then they recognized right away that with my vehicle, they couldn`t give me a quote online. They told me to call. Other websites gave me a quote and then changed it later because they realized the dimensions are not quite the same. So, I appreciated the straightforwardness of Sherpa. It was super easy to schedule a pickup. My car got there in less time than I thought it would take, and then my parents on the other end said it was really easy to pick it up and it was painless. So, everything was pretty easy. Communication with the driver was not too much, thank goodness, because I wouldn`t have wanted too much either. He called me when he was about an hour away, and then he called me when he arrived. Then, on the other end, he called my parents when he was about an hour away. He got there the night before, so he called my mom the next morning and my mom was able to go and pick it up that morning at her convenience. Overall, Sherpa was easy to book and there weren`t any surprises. Everything was very clear and straightforward and I`d use Sherpa again.”
“I had my daughters car transported from SA, Texas to Idaho and Sherpa is THE BEST!!! Always friendly, informative, and TOP NOTCH customer service!!! The company that they got to transport the car was equally amazing! The gentleman from Horizon Carriers had excellent communication, showed up when he said he would, and was detailed in checking out the car. The car left TX on a Monday at about 9:45 pm and arrived in N. Idaho on Wednesday at about 3:45 pm! The carrier was friendly and customer service was excellent! The street where he picked up the car was too narrow for his truck, so he parked the truck, walked to the pick up address, checked out the car, filled out the BOL and drive by daughter`s car to the truck and loaded it! Great work Horizon Carriers and superb vetting process on the part of Sherpa Auto Transport for choosing only the best of the best for their customers! This was our first time transporting a car so we were nervous, but Sherpa made it a truly stress-free experience!!! Thank you for caring about your customers and putting their needs first!”
“I unexpectedly purchased a Porsche Cayman in San Antonio, TX and needed to move it to Cleveland, Ohio. All within the time span of 5 days. I posted a car transport request on one of the popular sites and received multiple queries and quotes. The Sherpa quote stood our as being one of the lower priced quotes, which caught my interest. After speaking with the Sherpa agent, I was impressed with his depth of knowledge, and the support that was promised throughout the entire process. I opted to select Sherpa, simply based on the person that spoke with, and their many positive on-line reviews. I thought it was an excellent value. The transporter who accepted the job of moving my Porsche was Konstantin. I must say that he was among the most conscientious persons I have ever met. He thoroughly photographed all aspects of my care before loading it into his enclosed trailer. He secured the wheels and covered the car. Throughout the two-day trip he provided updates. He also answered my text messages when I sent queries. That fellow was so good that I’d hire him for my own business, if I could! Shipping a Porsche was a bit unsettling. However, the Sherpa team and Konstantin did everything they could to reduce my anxiety and delivered my car as promised. Thank you, Sherpa and Konstantin. I offer my highest recommendations. Dr. Decker”
“I used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a Jeep from Charlotte, NC to Austin, TX two weeks ago and was very pleased with their service. They were very easy to work with, kept in contact with me, followed up on any questions, picked up and delivered as scheduled, and were fairly priced. When the carrier Sherpa hired to transport my vehicle had not contact me as planned, I called Sherpa who immediately contacted the carrier, then followed up to see that the carrier had called me. At each stage of the process, Sherpa kept me up to date with emails as to the status of the transport. The driver for the carrier communicated with me on the days of pickup and delivery as to the specific time (within an hour) and location for pick-up and drop-off, as the truck was too large for some neighborhood streets. The driver also took good care loading, securing, and unloading my vehicle. I worked primarily with one contact at Sherpa for the entire process but when she wasn’t available her colleague addressed and followed up on my question quickly. I highly recommend that Sherpa Auto Transport be considered for any of your vehicle transport needs.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Dallas, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
