Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

Factors that affect Cedar Park Car Shipping Prices

Car Transport Distance
Pickup and Drop Off Location

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: Cedar Park’s location near Austin affects shipping costs. Longer distances, such as shipping to or from the East Coast, will increase prices. However, Cedar Park’s proximity to major highways like I-35 can help reduce costs for regional transport.
  • Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Cedar Park. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times.
  • Seasonal Factors: Cedar Park’s hot summers can affect car shipping prices. Peak season for auto transport is typically during summer months and January, which may lead to higher costs.
  • Vehicle Size and Type: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, which are popular in Texas, may cost more to ship due to their size and weight. Specialty vehicles might require enclosed transport.
  • Pickup and Delivery Locations: Cedar Park’s suburban location near Austin can keep costs reasonable. However, if you’re shipping to or from more rural areas of Texas, prices may increase.
  • Timeframe: Flexible pickup windows can help reduce costs. Rush or guaranteed delivery to Cedar Park will increase the price of your auto transport.
  • Vehicle Condition: Non-running vehicles cost more to ship to or from Cedar Park as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.

Understanding these factors can help you plan your Cedar Park car shipping more effectively. For a detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Cedar Park car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping is the most cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Cedar Park, TX. It offers greater flexibility and lower rates compared to enclosed carriers.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major highways like US-183 or TX-45. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall car shipping price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates liability concerns for the auto transport company.
  • Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can help you secure better rates. Consider a wider range of dates when planning your Cedar Park car transport to maximize savings.
  • Opt for off-peak seasons: If possible, schedule your car shipping services during less busy times. Avoiding peak moving seasons can result in more competitive pricing for auto transport to or from Cedar Park.

Cedar Park, Texas Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Cedar Park?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Cedar Park?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Cedar Park?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Cedar Park?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. “I had an Audi that I bought from my brother that was in Texas and we had to move it from Longview to Galt, California. I reached out to Sherpa and I didn`t have any problems. Their rep told me what to expect and who they`d be in contact with. So, I gave my brother`s information then they were in contact with him and made all the arrangements on that end. They told me in advance the paperwork that we would need, so I made sure that he had all that in place and it went pretty smoothly.”

“The gentleman from Sherpa who assisted me was very informative, explaining the whole process. He told me what to be aware of and of how other companies can take advantage if you don`t know what you`re looking for. He didn`t say that he was the right choice. He said it was my choice to select the company I wanted to use for my auto transport. So, I felt confident that he provided me with the right information. I spoke to others as well and they were much higher. So, I went with the one that was best for my budget. Sherpa was very straightforward and even gave me the opportunity to select who I wanted to choose. They weren`t going to be the best choice but I went with them because they were truthful and honest about the process. Shawn, the driver, was wonderful. His partner reached out to me and informed me that they would be able to pick up my car. She told me what day they would be picking it up and what day to expect it here in my area for delivery. So, she kept me engaged as far as giving me a status. When they knew they weren`t gonna be able to make it a day earlier, they were very upfront, giving me a call to tell me that the driver had a delay, there was no additional fees for that delay, and was still able to get it to me on the day that they originally stated it would. So, it was very good communication. Then, when the vehicle got here, it was very easy to find the gentleman. We met in a public location, in a Walmart parking lot, for the driver’s safety because of how big of a rig he was driving, and for my safety, too, not knowing whom I was going to be meeting with. I had a nice conversation with the gentleman. My husband and I both felt like he was a straightforward, very good guy. And it was simple and very easy. I was quoted 725. I paid 250 for the deposit and my card did not get charged any more than the 250. I had to provide 475 cash at the time of delivery, which I was able to do. And everything was fine. There was no fluctuation in the cost.”

“My youngest was in college in Michigan and a family that had befriended him had fallen on hard times. Their daughter was his roommate and she needed a car for her summer work program because she had to drive to get this internship. I just bought a new car and I had my old one that was still in very good shape. I didn`t need it and I don`t really need the money for it. I said that I`d give it to her but I couldn`t drive it up there. I was already going to fly it there to help him move. I found Sherpa and they had a really nice arrangement where we paid an upfront cost for them to find a driver and she just had to pay the driver. It was a really good thing for me because I wanted her commitment to pay something for the vehicle. It was a reasonable amount. That worked out really well for me. Sherpa was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The driver was very polite, courteous, and prompt. He got here on time and called me. He dropped off the vehicle and it was fine. I was very happy with the service. It was my first-time experience transporting a vehicle. I did it online and Sherpa came back promptly with a good price. I had contacted four other companies and some of them didn`t even respond. The ones that did were very, “Well, we`ll let you know,” that kind of thing. Sherpa was very good at getting me a price, “This is what it`s gonna cost.” It was getting closer to the deadline and they`d given me a window and they were still within the window. It was just so much was going on so I was a little nervous. I called Sherpa and at the time, you get an answering service thing because they get a lot of calls. I didn`t have time to wait. They called me right back and said, “We still haven`t found a driver for you, but we`ll get you something right now.” They didn`t realize I was anxious. They had a lot of information on their website. They were very prompt and they allayed my fears and said, “We haven`t found anyone yet, but if you need a name right now, we`ll get you one.” It worked out really well. In the payment way, the driver that they got wanted a little more cash so they reduced their fee that they would take from my card. But the problem was the young lady that was receiving the car only had so much cash and she`s a student. I said, “Well, look, can I just pay that difference to the driver upfront?” They said that was fine. When the driver came, I said, “I`ll give you the cash and then you can just email that you got the money.” He sent me a text that this was received so I had a record. That made me feel comfortable that he received that cash. When he arrived, he just took the additional cash from the young lady I was sending the car to. They were flexible and honest about the transaction. I would encourage people to use Sherpa. To drive the car would have cost me just as much money with hotel stays and gas. The stress would have been so much more too. You have to drive it 1,800 miles for three days and it would have been terrible. Sherpa delivered the car right when they said they were going to deliver it.”

“I unexpectedly purchased a Porsche Cayman in San Antonio, TX and needed to move it to Cleveland, Ohio. All within the time span of 5 days. I posted a car transport request on one of the popular sites and received multiple queries and quotes. The Sherpa quote stood our as being one of the lower priced quotes, which caught my interest. After speaking with the Sherpa agent, I was impressed with his depth of knowledge, and the support that was promised throughout the entire process. I opted to select Sherpa, simply based on the person that spoke with, and their many positive on-line reviews. I thought it was an excellent value. The transporter who accepted the job of moving my Porsche was Konstantin. I must say that he was among the most conscientious persons I have ever met. He thoroughly photographed all aspects of my care before loading it into his enclosed trailer. He secured the wheels and covered the car. Throughout the two-day trip he provided updates. He also answered my text messages when I sent queries. That fellow was so good that I’d hire him for my own business, if I could! Shipping a Porsche was a bit unsettling. However, the Sherpa team and Konstantin did everything they could to reduce my anxiety and delivered my car as promised. Thank you, Sherpa and Konstantin. I offer my highest recommendations. “I used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a Jeep from Charlotte, NC to Austin, TX two weeks ago and was very pleased with their service. They were very easy to work with, kept in contact with me, followed up on any questions, picked up and delivered as scheduled, and were fairly priced. When the carrier Sherpa hired to transport my vehicle had not contact me as planned, I called Sherpa who immediately contacted the carrier, then followed up to see that the carrier had called me. At each stage of the process, Sherpa kept me up to date with emails as to the status of the transport. The driver for the carrier communicated with me on the days of pickup and delivery as to the specific time (within an hour) and location for pick-up and drop-off, as the truck was too large for some neighborhood streets. The driver also took good care loading, securing, and unloading my vehicle. I worked primarily with one contact at Sherpa for the entire process but when she wasn’t available her colleague addressed and followed up on my question quickly. I highly recommend that Sherpa Auto Transport be considered for any of your vehicle transport needs.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Cedar Park, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Texas. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  1. The first semi-truck was invented in 1898 by Alexander Winton to transport cars from his Cleveland-based Winton Motor Carriage Company. He wanted a way to deliver cars to customers without adding miles to the vehicles. [Source: Institute for Transportation, Iowa State University]
  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
