What our Scranton customers say about Sherpa:
“I set this transfer up for a friend who was moving back to Pennsylvania from Florida. The Sherpa agent was amazing in that he was reassuring and very knowledgeable. He notified us when the transport company was contracted and for the price agreed upon and again when the driver was on his way and approximately when he would arrive.”
“I had never needed to transport a vehicle ANYWHERE so I was nervous about choosing a company. I chose Sherpa Auto Transport because of the positive online reviews. I needed to transport a Ford Mustang from Alabama to Pennsylvania. I requested a quote online and in minutes I not only received an e-mailed quote, I received a phone call from Patrick at Sherpa Auto Transport.”
“Smooth experience from getting a quote online to car delivery! Reservation was very easy to schedule, Sherpa representative was great at communicating and explaining the process. They were transparent about the cost breakdown (which was a competitive, fair price). Didn’t have any issues with the price going up once they confirmed a driver.”

Factors that affect Scranton Car Shipping Prices
- Distance and Route: The distance between pickup and delivery locations significantly affects car shipping costs to and from Scranton, PA. Longer distances generally mean higher prices. However, Scranton’s strategic location near major highways like I-81 and I-84 can help reduce costs for some routes.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Scranton. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection but cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times. They’re typically only necessary for high-value or classic cars.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy and their weight. This is particularly important when shipping to Scranton’s hilly terrain.
- Seasonal Factors: Scranton’s weather can impact car shipping prices. Winter months may see higher rates due to challenging road conditions, while summer tends to be peak season for auto transport, potentially increasing costs.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like downtown Scranton are generally cheaper for car shipping than rural locations. If you’re flexible, choosing a pickup or delivery point near a major highway can reduce costs.
- Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window (e.g., 5 business days) can lower your car shipping costs to or from Scranton. Rush or guaranteed pickup services will increase the price.
- Vehicle Condition: Inoperable vehicles cost more to ship as they require special equipment for loading and unloading. Ensure your car is in running condition to avoid additional fees.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Scranton, PA. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is generally more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major interstates like I-81 or I-84. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Consider terminal locations in nearby cities like Wilkes-Barre for more options.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to/from Scranton may be more affordable during off-peak seasons when demand is lower.
- Opt for door-to-terminal: If possible, arrange for terminal pickup in Scranton while keeping door delivery at your destination (or vice versa) to potentially reduce costs.

Scranton, Pennsylvania Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Scranton?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Scranton. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Scranton?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Scranton?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Scranton?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Scranton
When planning car shipping to or from Scranton, PA, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. Scranton experiences all four seasons distinctly, which can significantly impact auto transport logistics.
In winter, Scranton often sees heavy snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, not steep inclines, to prevent slipping.
- Remove any items from your vehicle that could freeze and potentially damage the interior.
During summer, while not extreme, temperatures can rise. For car transport in warmer months:
- Consider placing a sunshade under your windshield to protect the interior.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle before shipping.
Scranton’s peak car shipping seasons often align with local events:
- University of Scranton move-in and move-out periods (typically late August and early May) can increase demand for auto transport services.
- The annual La Festa Italiana in September might affect local traffic and car shipping schedules.
To ensure a smooth car shipping experience in Scranton, PA, consider booking your auto transport a few weeks before or after these peak times. This can help you avoid higher rates and potential delays. Remember, Scranton car shipping companies like Sherpa Auto Transport are experienced in handling local conditions and can provide valuable advice for your specific situation.
Car Shipping for College Students in Scranton, Pennsylvania
When considering car shipping to Scranton for college, it’s crucial to understand each university’s parking policies. At the University of Scranton, students must register their vehicles and purchase a parking permit. On-campus parking is limited, so plan ahead. Many off-campus apartments offer parking, but always confirm before signing a lease. For Marywood University, commuter students can park on campus with a valid permit. Resident students have designated lots, but spaces are limited. Both universities allow long-term parking during breaks, perfect if you’re using car transport services to head home. Remember, Scranton’s winters can be harsh. Consider snow tires and ensure your car is winter-ready. Before shipping your car to Scranton, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance are valid in Pennsylvania. Lastly, if parking seems challenging, explore auto transport companies that offer storage solutions. This way, you can ship your car only when needed, saving on parking fees and hassle.
Reviews from our Pennsylvania Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Pennsylvania customers:
“I used Sherpa Auto Transport to get my car from Pennsylvania to California and the whole process was so easy. I was worried about choosing the right transportation service because I was looking at reviews and everything was a mixed bag. I decided to go with Sherpa and I’m really glad that I did because my driver was really nice and understanding and communicated to me throughout the process. The initial pick up message was slightly abrupt because he didn’t know he was going to pick up that day but he gave us a lot of time to get prepared and after that everything went well. He drove to the location of pickup, did an inspection with pictures, and then drove the car into the carrier. It took exactly a week for it to arrive at the delivery location. Overall I had a pretty good experience.”
“Sherpa was absolutely phenomenal. I was doing the auto transport for my sister-in-law who was moving from Colorado to Pennsylvania. She`s wasn`t in the best frame of mind, so we did all of the work to get Sherpa to do this. We made the phone call in November and the car was being picked up in December. Sherpa managed to find somebody who was going to pick up the car, and they were all set up and ready to get there in December. They were booked, but that night, my sister-in-law called and said that she was getting overwhelmed and we needed to cancel. So, we cancelled, paid the cancellation fee, and it was no big deal. The following day, my sister-in-law changed her mind and we re-upped the contract. However, there was a computer glitch in the system and it didn`t back the previous company out of the contract with us, so when we re-upped, we then had two active contracts. Two companies were gonna show up at different days to try to take our car. Sherpa had no idea because the company was the one who needed to know that they were no longer supposed to be coming, and they somehow were never notified. The company showed up and got the car, but it was on a totally different day than we were told they would be coming because it was the original date. Sherpa did all of the leg work. They contacted the people and met with the driver to make sure it was legit. They also refunded the cancellation fee because technically, we got the first contract. They called us every step of the way. They went above and beyond even though the mistake was caused by us cancelling.”
“A friend told us about Sherpa four years ago, and we`ve been using them ever since. They`re the broker for other shippers, and I don`t think we`ve ever gone to the same mover any time. It`s always been some new one, and they worked off the date that we needed them. We have moved cars from California to Houston a couple times, and Houston to Pennsylvania, and then Pennsylvania to California. Sherpa offers convenience, very good prices, and the service has been incredible. We`ve used them seven times, and pickup and delivery could not have been better. We just moved two cars, one out of Houston and one out of Pennsylvania. Each pickup was as simple as it could be, and the drop-off was at the house where they`re getting delivered, so we can`t complain. In Houston, I dropped the car off on Tuesday afternoon, and it was here at the house Thursday night. It was unbelievable.”
“I am extremely satisfied with Sherpa Auto Transport and recommend them to all. I used them to transport my car from Bradenton, Florida to Doylestown, Pennsylvania. This was the first time I shipped my car and I couldn`t be more satisfied. They clearly explained the process to me and were friendly and professional. My car was picked up on time and delivered back to PA in 2 days. They provided timely and thorough communication throughout the entire process. I will definitely use them again.”
“I would definitely recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. Marvin, was very courteous, patient and helpful with getting me set up with a driver. I needed to transport my son’s Toyota Camry from Philadelphia, PA to Phoenix, AZ. I spoke with Marvin early in the morning, a driver reached out to me before noon the same day. The driver was very nice. He emailed me the Bill of Lading and also provided link to track my vehicle from when it was picked up to when it arrived in AZ. He delivered the vehicle earlier than expected. I will be referring them.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Scranton, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Pennsylvania. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
