What our Philadelphia customers say about Sherpa:
“One thing Tim assured me of was that he would never send someone to pick up my car that didn’t meet their strict standards not only clean driving records and insurance, but also a high level of professionalism. My last experience shipping my car, the driver was rude and unreliable, but the driver Sherpa sent exceeded my expectations. Tony was very friendly. He showed up on time and even helped me jump my car since the battery was dead.”
“I was really nervous, transporting my car from the Bay area to Philadelphia. There are several horror stories online about shady brokers, no-shows etc. Several places tried to win my business with low-ball offers. These guys were awesome. Ran through the process transparently. I know what their portion of the fee was and what I was giving to the driver.”
“They picked up my car near Philadelphia and delivered it to me in Miami approximately four days after they picked it up. The driver was not able to bring his truck directly to my house because the area has a lot of trees and the truck might not have been able to clear those trees, so we work something out where I met the driver at his truck and he followed me back to my house in the car that was transported and then I drove him back to his truck.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Philadelphia Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Philadelphia’s central East Coast location affects shipping costs. Transporting cars to/from nearby cities like New York or Washington D.C. is generally cheaper than cross-country routes to places like Los Angeles or Seattle.
- Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to Philadelphia. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers protection from harsh Philly winters or summer thunderstorms for luxury or classic vehicles.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Philadelphia’s urban setting typically means lower costs compared to rural areas. Choosing locations near major routes like I-95 or I-76 can reduce expenses.
- Seasonal Factors: Philadelphia’s weather can impact car shipping prices. Winter snow and ice may increase costs, while milder spring and fall conditions often offer better rates.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger vehicles like SUVs cost more to ship than compact cars. Inoperable vehicles require special equipment, increasing the price for auto transport to or from Philadelphia.
- Timing and Flexibility: Rush shipping to meet tight deadlines in Philly costs more. Offering a flexible pickup window can lead to more competitive car shipping rates.
- Route Popularity: Philadelphia’s status as a major city means frequent routes to other metropolitan areas, potentially lowering costs for these popular shipping lanes.
Understanding these factors can help you find the best car shipping services for your needs and budget when transporting a vehicle to or from Philadelphia. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Philadelphia car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open carriers offer the most cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Philadelphia. While enclosed transport is necessary for some vehicles, open shipping provides greater flexibility and lower rates.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major interstates like I-95 or I-76. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Philadelphia car shipping needs. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more affordable options.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport rates often fluctuate based on demand. If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer for potentially lower prices when shipping a car to or from Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Philadelphia?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Philadelphia. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Philadelphia?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Philadelphia?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Philadelphia?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Philadelphia
When planning car shipping to or from Philadelphia, PA, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. Philadelphia experiences all four seasons, each bringing unique challenges for auto transport.
In winter, snowfall and icy conditions can impact car shipping services. If you’re shipping a vehicle with snow tires, remember that carriers can’t transport cars with tire chains. Also, ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, as trucks need stable surfaces in icy conditions. When storing items in your car during winter transport, avoid leaving liquids that might freeze and expand.
Summer in Philadelphia can be hot and humid. If you’re shipping a car during this season, consider placing a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior. Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
Spring and fall offer milder weather, making them ideal for car transport. However, these seasons coincide with peak times for Philadelphia car shipping. With numerous colleges in the area, August and May see increased demand as students move in and out. To avoid higher rates and longer wait times, consider scheduling your auto transport a few weeks before or after these busy periods.
Regardless of the season, it’s wise to book your car shipping well in advance. This allows you to secure better rates and ensures availability with your chosen car shipping company. By considering these seasonal factors, you can make your Philadelphia, PA car shipping experience smoother and more cost-effective.
Car Shipping for College Students in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
When considering car shipping to Philadelphia for college, it’s crucial to plan ahead. Many universities in the area have limited parking options. For instance, at the University of Pennsylvania, parking permits are required and can be costly. Temple University offers various parking options, but spaces are limited. Students should check with their specific school for parking regulations and fees. Off-campus parking may be a more affordable alternative, but consider the distance to campus. For winter breaks, some universities offer long-term parking, but it’s best to confirm availability. Philadelphia’s winters can be harsh, so snow tires are recommended. Before shipping your car to Philadelphia, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to your new location. If you’re unsure about bringing a car, remember that Philadelphia has an extensive public transportation system. Ultimately, thorough research and planning will ensure a smooth transition when transporting your vehicle for your college experience in the City of Brotherly Love.
Reviews from our Pennsylvania Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Pennsylvania customers:
“It was an easy process from start to end, from the time I picked up the phone and I called the customer service person. She was super helpful and gave me the ins and the outs about car transporting because I had no idea what that looked like. So, she gave me how it would go, and it went according to plan. Sherpa Auto Transport gave me a six-day window to pick the car up, and the dealership where I bought the car in Philadelphia said the car was picked up on a Wednesday afternoon. I got pictures of the car being loaded. It was an 80-foot enclosed transporter. It went seamless from what I heard from the dealership. I got a call from the driver who had the car on his transporter when he got here on early Monday morning when I went to pick up the car. I live in a residential area of Seattle and I said, “I will come to you.” I went over to Bellevue, Washington to pick it up, which is 20 minutes away. He had six or seven cars already out. And it was easier. So, it saved him the heartache of driving around this residential area. He was a super nice guy. The window they gave me was a week, plus to pick the car up, and it would take a week to get here, even 10 days possibly. They exceeded that by a long shot.”
“Smooth experience from getting a quote online to car delivery! Reservation was very easy to schedule, Sherpa representative was great at communicating and explaining the process. They were transparent about the cost breakdown (which was a competitive, fair price). Didn’t have any issues with the price going up once they confirmed a driver (as I had read doing research about car transport companies, Sherpa actually guarantees the price). The driver, Nick, was very nice and professional – kept me in the loop from pick up to drop off times and locations! He took great care of my car (I was also able to load up to 100lbs of additional items)! Overall perfect experience, thank you!”
“I figured I’d chip in because it seems impossible to find any reviews of auto transport companies on the internet, and people rarely seem to write about their decent-to-good experiences. Sherpa Auto Transport delivered my new-ish compact SUV from Central Oregon to Philadelphia in exactly the time that they specified. The shipper they contracted (Tech Transport) were communicative leading up to drop-off and pickup, and were flexible with me when I didn’t have an exact location in mind for either. My car arrived in identical condition to when I dropped it off. I’d recommend it, with the caveat that it is a broker service, so your experience may vary depending on the carrier they use.”
“After getting ripped off by “We Are Transport On Demand” I did some research on this auto transport industry. It is highly unregulated. After doing some research I found Sherpa Auto Transport. After an initial deposit my order was put into the system and within 1.5 hours a driver took my order for pickup. Amazing the difference working with professionals which Sherpa is. They made it from Philadelphia to Houston in 2.5 days. Be careful who you choose. Many who contacted me were from India and Pakistan. What do they know about transporting vehicles in the states?”
“I set this transfer up for a friend who was moving back to Pennsylvania from Florida. The Sherpa agent was amazing in that he was reassuring and very knowledgeable. He notified us when the transport company was contracted and for the price agreed upon and again when the driver was on his way and approximately when he would arrive. He also called us when the driver was outside of our community for us to meet him with the car. The company driver was equally amazing in the care he took examining the car and placing it on the truck transport. The car arrived on time and in the same condition as it was at pickup. There is no question – SHERPA IS THE WAY TO GO!!!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Philadelphia, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Pennsylvania. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
