When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Lancaster Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Lancaster, PA and your destination significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer journeys.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Lancaster. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from weather and road debris, which can be beneficial during Lancaster’s snowy winters.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Route Accessibility: Lancaster’s proximity to major highways like I-76 and US-30 can help keep costs down. However, if your pickup or delivery location is in a more rural area of Lancaster County, it may increase the price.
- Seasonal Demand: Auto transport prices in Lancaster can fluctuate with the seasons. Summer months and January often see higher rates due to increased demand, while spring and fall may offer more competitive pricing.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are less expensive to ship than inoperable ones, as non-running cars require special equipment for loading and unloading.
- Timing Flexibility: If you can be flexible with your pickup and delivery dates, you may find better rates for car shipping to or from Lancaster, PA.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Lancaster. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

- Select convenient locations: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find pickup and drop-off points near major highways like I-76 or US-30. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your auto transport price.

- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better auto transport rates. Consider weekday shipping, as weekend services may cost more.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to and from Lancaster may be more affordable during off-peak seasons. Avoid peak moving times like summer or holidays if possible.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Lancaster?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

When planning car shipping to or from Lancaster, PA, it’s crucial to consider the area’s seasonal weather patterns. Lancaster experiences all four seasons, each bringing unique challenges for auto transport.
In winter, snowfall can impact car shipping services. If you’re shipping a vehicle with snow tires, remember that carriers can’t transport cars with tire chains. Also, ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, as icy conditions can make steep inclines dangerous for transport trucks.
Spring and fall are ideal times for car transport in Lancaster, with mild temperatures and less extreme weather. However, occasional heavy rains can occur, so consider weatherproofing any items stored in your vehicle during transport.
In summer, while Lancaster doesn’t experience extreme heat, interior car temperatures can still rise significantly. If you’re shipping a car during this season, remove heat-sensitive items and consider using a sunshade to protect the interior.
Beyond weather, timing is crucial for efficient car shipping in Lancaster. As home to several colleges, including Franklin & Marshall, the city sees increased demand for auto transport services at the beginning and end of academic semesters. To avoid potential delays and higher costs, consider scheduling your car shipping a few weeks before or after these peak periods.
By keeping these factors in mind, you can ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience when using car shipping services to or from Lancaster, PA. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for specific advice tailored to your situation and the current season.

Reviews from our Pennsylvania Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Pennsylvania customers:
“Sherpa was absolutely phenomenal. I was doing the auto transport for my sister-in-law who was moving from Colorado to Pennsylvania. She`s wasn`t in the best frame of mind, so we did all of the work to get Sherpa to do this. We made the phone call in November and the car was being picked up in December. Sherpa managed to find somebody who was going to pick up the car, and they were all set up and ready to get there in December. They were booked, but that night, my sister-in-law called and said that she was getting overwhelmed and we needed to cancel. So, we cancelled, paid the cancellation fee, and it was no big deal. The following day, my sister-in-law changed her mind and we re-upped the contract. However, there was a computer glitch in the system and it didn`t back the previous company out of the contract with us, so when we re-upped, we then had two active contracts. Two companies were gonna show up at different days to try to take our car. Sherpa had no idea because the company was the one who needed to know that they were no longer supposed to be coming, and they somehow were never notified. The company showed up and got the car, but it was on a totally different day than we were told they would be coming because it was the original date. Sherpa did all of the leg work. They contacted the people and met with the driver to make sure it was legit. They also refunded the cancellation fee because technically, we got the first contract. They called us every step of the way. They went above and beyond even though the mistake was caused by us cancelling.”
“I set this transfer up for a friend who was moving back to Pennsylvania from Florida. The Sherpa agent was amazing in that he was reassuring and very knowledgeable. He notified us when the transport company was contracted and for the price agreed upon and again when the driver was on his way and approximately when he would arrive. He also called us when the driver was outside of our community for us to meet him with the car. The company driver was equally amazing in the care he took examining the car and placing it on the truck transport. The car arrived on time and in the same condition as it was at pickup. There is no question – SHERPA IS THE WAY TO GO!!!”
“I am extremely satisfied with Sherpa Auto Transport and recommend them to all. I used them to transport my car from Bradenton, Florida to Doylestown, Pennsylvania. This was the first time I shipped my car and I couldn`t be more satisfied. They clearly explained the process to me and were friendly and professional. My car was picked up on time and delivered back to PA in 2 days. They provided timely and thorough communication throughout the entire process. I will definitely use them again.”
“I would definitely recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. Marvin, was very courteous, patient and helpful with getting me set up with a driver. I needed to transport my son`s Toyota Camry from Philadelphia, PA to Phoenix, AZ. I spoke with Marvin early in the morning, a driver reached out to me before noon the same day. The driver was very nice. He emailed me the Bill of Lading and also provided link to track my vehicle from when it was picked up to when it arrived in AZ. He delivered the vehicle earlier than expected. I will be referring them.”
“Smooth experience from getting a quote online to car delivery! Reservation was very easy to schedule, Sherpa representative was great at communicating and explaining the process. They were transparent about the cost breakdown (which was a competitive, fair price). Didn’t have any issues with the price going up once they confirmed a driver (as I had read doing research about car transport companies, Sherpa actually guarantees the price). The driver, Nick, was very nice and professional – kept me in the loop from pick up to drop off times and locations! He took great care of my car (I was also able to load up to 100lbs of additional items)! Overall perfect experience, thank you!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Lancaster, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Pennsylvania. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
