- Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
- Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Pennsylvania customers say about Sherpa:
“The transport was about 2,000 miles from Pennsylvania to Arizona and it took right about three days. We met the driver at the specified location. The subcontractor that they used was very good. He was courteous, very professional, pleasant and patient. He called if there was any question about anything and kept us well-informed on where he was and what his progress was.”
“I needed to transport a Ford Mustang from Alabama to Pennsylvania. I requested a quote online and in minutes I not only received an e-mailed quote, I received a phone call from Patrick at Sherpa Auto Transport. Patrick explained everything to me on how the process works which put my mind at ease.”
“My Sherpa experience was wonderful! I purchased a used car from out of state and needed to find reasonable and reliable transport. Sherpa’s quote was lower than several others, AND the customer service and communication were great throughout. My car was assigned a hauler within a couple of days, and the car was here the next day after pickup (Illinois to Pennsylvania).”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Pennsylvania Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Pennsylvania’s central location on the East Coast affects shipping costs. Longer distances, such as from Pittsburgh to the West Coast, typically cost more than shorter routes like Philadelphia to New York.
- Route: Major interstates like I-76, I-80, and I-81 crisscross Pennsylvania, making transport easier and often cheaper. Rural areas off these main routes may incur higher costs.
- Season: Pennsylvania’s varied climate affects car shipping. Winter snow and ice can increase costs and transit times, especially in the mountainous regions. Summer is peak season, often leading to higher prices.
- Vehicle Type: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, common in Pennsylvania’s rural areas, may cost more to ship than standard cars due to their size and weight.
- Transport Method: Open transport is the most economical option for most vehicles. Enclosed transport, while pricier, offers extra protection and may be preferred for luxury or classic cars, especially during Pennsylvania’s harsh winters.
- Flexibility: Being flexible with pickup and delivery dates can lead to lower costs. This is particularly true when shipping to or from Pennsylvania’s busier urban areas like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Pennsylvania. For more detailed information on car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. If you’re unsure whether to choose open or enclosed transport, our open vs. enclosed car shipping guide can help you decide.
Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Pennsylvania car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles, especially along major interstates like I-76 or I-81.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways. For example, choosing a spot near the Pennsylvania Turnpike or I-95 can significantly reduce fuel costs and, in turn, your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before transport. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during the auto transport process.
- Be flexible: Offer a range of pickup and delivery dates. This flexibility allows car shipping companies to better accommodate your vehicle within their existing routes, potentially lowering your costs. Consider locations near urban hubs like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh for more options.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons in Pennsylvania, such as summer or the start of the academic year. Shipping your car during off-peak times can result in more competitive rates from auto transport companies.

Pennsylvania Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When shipping a car to Pennsylvania or moving within the state, it’s crucial to understand local vehicle requirements and regulations. Pennsylvania uses E-ZPass for electronic toll collection, so remember to remove or transfer your transponder if you’re moving away. For those moving to Pennsylvania, you’ll need to obtain an E-ZPass for convenient travel on the state’s numerous toll roads.
Vehicle inspections are mandatory in Pennsylvania. New residents must have their vehicles inspected within 10 days of registering. The state also requires annual safety inspections and emissions tests in many counties. When it comes to car transport and registration, you have 20 days to register your vehicle after establishing residency. The process involves providing proof of ownership, insurance, and passing the required inspections.
For those settling in urban areas like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, be aware of residential parking permit requirements. These vary by neighborhood, so check with your local parking authority.
When moving to Pennsylvania, setting up utilities is a crucial step. Major electricity providers include PECO, PPL, and Duquesne Light, while water services are typically managed by municipal authorities. For internet, providers like Xfinity, Verizon, and Spectrum are widely available.
Don’t forget to update your voter registration and enroll your children in local schools. Pennsylvania’s diverse climate, with cold winters and warm summers, might influence your car shipping decisions. Consider enclosed auto transport during harsh weather to protect your vehicle.
If you’re leaving Pennsylvania, remember to cancel local memberships, forward your mail, and notify the DMV of your move. Whether you’re using car shipping services to move to or from the Keystone State, understanding these local nuances will ensure a smoother transition.
Pennsylvania Vehicle Transport FAQs

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Pennsylvania?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Pennsylvania?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Pennsylvania?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

At Fort Indiantown Gap, the state’s largest National Guard training facility, on-base parking is available, but space can be limited. Many service members opt to live in nearby communities like Annville or Harrisburg, where parking is generally unrestricted. The base offers a well-stocked commissary and exchange for military families.

Reviews from our Pennsylvania Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Pennsylvania customers:
“Sherpa was absolutely phenomenal. I was doing the auto transport for my sister-in-law who was moving from Colorado to Pennsylvania. She`s wasn`t in the best frame of mind, so we did all of the work to get Sherpa to do this. We made the phone call in November and the car was being picked up in December. Sherpa managed to find somebody who was going to pick up the car, and they were all set up and ready to get there in December. They were booked, but that night, my sister-in-law called and said that she was getting overwhelmed and we needed to cancel. So, we cancelled, paid the cancellation fee, and it was no big deal. The following day, my sister-in-law changed her mind and we re-upped the contract. However, there was a computer glitch in the system and it didn`t back the previous company out of the contract with us, so when we re-upped, we then had two active contracts. Two companies were gonna show up at different days to try to take our car. Sherpa had no idea because the company was the one who needed to know that they were no longer supposed to be coming, and they somehow were never notified. The company showed up and got the car, but it was on a totally different day than we were told they would be coming because it was the original date. Sherpa did all of the leg work. They contacted the people and met with the driver to make sure it was legit. They also refunded the cancellation fee because technically, we got the first contract. They called us every step of the way. They went above and beyond even though the mistake was caused by us cancelling.”
“I am extremely satisfied with Sherpa Auto Transport and recommend them to all. I used them to transport my car from Bradenton, Florida to Doylestown, Pennsylvania. This was the first time I shipped my car and I couldn`t be more satisfied. They clearly explained the process to me and were friendly and professional. My car was picked up on time and delivered back to PA in 2 days. They provided timely and thorough communication throughout the entire process. I will definitely use them again.”
“I would definitely recommend Sherpa Auto Transport. Marvin, was very courteous, patient and helpful with getting me set up with a driver. I needed to transport my son`s Toyota Camry from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Phoenix, AZ. I spoke with Marvin early in the morning, a driver reached out to me before noon the same day. The driver was very nice. He emailed me the Bill of Lading and also provided link to track my vehicle from when it was picked up to when it arrived in AZ. He delivered the vehicle earlier than expected. I will be referring them.”
“A friend told us about Sherpa four years ago, and we`ve been using them ever since. They`re the broker for other shippers, and I don`t think we`ve ever gone to the same mover any time. It`s always been some new one, and they worked off the date that we needed them. We have moved cars from California to Houston a couple times, and Houston to Pennsylvania, and then Pennsylvania to California. Sherpa offers convenience, very good prices, and the service has been incredible. We`ve used them seven times, and pickup and delivery could not have been better. We just moved two cars, one out of Houston and one out of Pennsylvania. Each pickup was as simple as it could be, and the drop-off was at the house where they`re getting delivered, so we can`t complain. In Houston, I dropped the car off on Tuesday afternoon, and it was here at the house Thursday night. It was unbelievable.”
“This experience was so seamless and quick! They picked up my vehicle in Florida one day and showed up In Pennsylvania the next! It does take until kind of the last minute for them to tell when a driver is assigned, (heard the day before pickup) but the trip is confirmed when you pay. Cash price was not too bad considering the quickness. Would definitely recommend this service to others!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Pennsylvania, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Pennsylvania. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
