Vehicle Size
  • Distance and Route: The distance between Newton, NC and your destination greatly affects car shipping costs. Routes along major highways like I-40 and US-321 are typically more economical due to easier access for carriers.
  • Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport. Enclosed carriers, while offering extra protection, are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Seasonal Factors: Newton’s mild climate means fewer weather-related shipping challenges. However, summer months and January typically see higher car shipping prices due to increased demand.
  • Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the price. Ensure your vehicle is in working condition to keep costs down.
  • Pickup and Delivery Locations: Newton’s proximity to Charlotte can be advantageous. Urban areas often have lower shipping costs compared to rural locations. Consider meeting the carrier in a more accessible area to potentially reduce expenses.
  • Flexibility: Opting for Sherpa’s five-day pickup window can lead to significant savings. If you need a quicker turnaround, expect to pay more for expedited service.
  • Market Demand: Auto transport prices can fluctuate based on current demand. Booking in advance often secures better rates, especially during peak seasons.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book in advance: Schedule your Newton, NC car shipping at least two weeks ahead. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundled pickups.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping is generally more cost-effective than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major highways like I-40 or US-321. This can reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
  • Lighten your load: Remove personal items from your vehicle. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
  • Stay flexible: Being adaptable with your pickup and delivery dates can open up more cost-effective options. Consider offering a range of dates rather than a specific day.
  • Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to/from Newton, NC may be more affordable during off-peak seasons. Avoid busy summer months if possible.
  • Opt for terminal pickup: While Sherpa doesn’t offer terminal-to-terminal service, choosing a pickup location in a larger nearby city like Charlotte might provide more competitive rates.

The process involves providing proof of ownership, insurance, and passing a vehicle inspection. Newton car shipping experts recommend completing these steps promptly to avoid penalties.

Unlike some states, North Carolina doesn’t use a specific toll reader system. However, if you’re moving from an area that does, remember to remove your toll transponder before car transport. This prevents accidental charges during the shipping process.

Newton, North Carolina Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Newton?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Newton. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Newton?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Newton?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Newton?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. “You can`t go wrong with Sherpa! I admit that I initially placed an order with a different company — two companies actually. Neither could find a driver to transport my brand new Genesis GV70 from NC to NV in an enclosed trailer. I even paid the first company in full, and six days later they hadn`t even tried to find a driver. So eight days after buying a car in NC, I called Sherpa. The Sherpa rep explained the process of basically bidding for a space on a truck, and put me on hold while she looked up the current rate. To put it simply, with a low ball rate, the car is going to sit there. A more competitive rate will get it picked up quicker. I asked her point blank how quickly she thought she could find a driver. She said there was a 96% chance of picking up the car within 4 days. Because I placed the order before noon EDST, she was able to get the order posted that same day. Mind you, this was two days before the July 4th weekend, during a pandemic. Just over 24 hours later I received a call from Mavistar who had accepted the order. And 24 hours after that I received a personal text from the Mavistar driver who confirmed he had picked up my car and would be updating me on his progress as he drove across the country. This driver was AWESOME. He texted or called me every night and updated me on his ETA. Six days after I placed my order, my car was sitting in my driveway in pristine condition. You get what you pay for. If you want budget-level customer service, go with a different company. Sherpa prides itself on doing business the right way, and that they did! I couldn`t be happier with them.”

“I used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a Jeep from Charlotte, NC to Austin, TX two weeks ago and was very pleased with their service. They were very easy to work with, kept in contact with me, followed up on any questions, picked up and delivered as scheduled, and were fairly priced. When the carrier Sherpa hired to transport my vehicle had not contact me as planned, I called Sherpa who immediately contacted the carrier, then followed up to see that the carrier had called me. At each stage of the process, Sherpa kept me up to date with emails as to the status of the transport. The driver for the carrier communicated with me on the days of pickup and delivery as to the specific time (within an hour) and location for pick-up and drop-off, as the truck was too large for some neighborhood streets. The driver also took good care loading, securing, and unloading my vehicle. I worked primarily with one contact at Sherpa for the entire process but when she wasn’t available her colleague addressed and followed up on my question quickly. I highly recommend that Sherpa Auto Transport be considered for any of your vehicle transport needs.”

“Used Sherpa to ship my son’s car from North Carolina to Seattle. They had a four day window to schedule a pick pick up. They did an exceptional work locating a carrier and emphasizing that the car must be picked up by a certain date. They kept me well informed about the progress. Mike from Sherpa called and emailed multiple times a day with updates. The car was picked up and delivered in less than a week. The carrier Diesel Auto Express were awesome as well. This was a great and smooth experience, they even pay to have your car washed. Highly recommend Sherpa.”

“This was my first time shipping an auto also. I am a mature woman and I try to be very cautious in my business dealings so initially to say I was concerned would be understating my mindset. But my only other alternative was a trip from North Carolina to Delaware, where the car was located and back – not appealing regardless of the mode of transportation. I finally located my “dream” little sports car in New Castle Delaware. The car is 15 years old in “show room” condition…my concern was that it would not arrive in the same condition. I choose SHERPA Auto Transport after an online search and BBB A+ rating. The company sales personnel were very responsive and professional. I was kept informed via email throughout the process. After the driver was assigned – amazing driver – the vehicle was picked up in Delaware in the late afternoon, June 16th, and arrived at my door the next morning!!! Not a mark on it! I was over joyed!! The process was seamless. I would use this company again and I highly recommend this company!!!”

Consumer Affairs

“This is the 4th year using Sherpa and I could not be happier with them. They provide a 5-day pick-up date but I have yet to wait the whole 5 days. Last Sunday I called to get a quote, and by Tuesday, the car was picked up and by Thursday my son`s car shipped from NC to RI! They are quick to get shipments completed and their communication throughout the whole process is incredible. The drivers are also awesome, I was constantly getting updates from them. Don`t be fooled by other transportation companies, they will give you an estimate a lot lower but will result in a horrible experience. Do yourself a favor and don`t bother with the other companies, Sherpa is honestly the best for your transportation needs.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Newton, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of North Carolina. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
