Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.

  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Mount Holly, NC significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Mount Holly. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers extra protection for high-value vehicles against weather and road debris.
  • Location Accessibility: Mount Holly’s proximity to Charlotte and major highways like I-85 can help keep costs down. Rural pickups or deliveries may increase prices due to additional time and resources required.
  • Seasonal Factors: Weather in Mount Holly is generally mild, but summer heat and occasional winter storms can affect transport schedules and prices. Peak moving seasons, typically summer months, may also increase demand and costs.
  • Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Non-running cars require special equipment, increasing the price. Standard sedans and small SUVs are typically the most economical to transport.
  • Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates when shipping a car to or from Mount Holly. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates usually come at a premium.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Mount Holly?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

“Upfront guaranteed delivery. Great communication. Guaranteed pickup in 4 day pickup window. Here is why you should go with Sherpa. My vehicle was picked up on a Tuesday in North Carolina and delivered at my driveway on Thursday to Colorado. 1700 miles in two days, no issues with the vehicle at all. (High Line Transport) was the driver. He kept great communication from pickup to dropoff. Sherpa made me feel comfortable explaining the process in detail, I why I should go with them instead of the other companies. I am glad I listened. Saved a lot of trouble vetting other companies.”

“You can`t go wrong with Sherpa! I admit that I initially placed an order with a different company — two companies actually. Neither could find a driver to transport my brand new Genesis GV70 from NC to NV in an enclosed trailer. I even paid the first company in full, and six days later they hadn`t even tried to find a driver. So eight days after buying a car in NC, I called Sherpa. The Sherpa rep explained the process of basically bidding for a space on a truck, and put me on hold while she looked up the current rate. To put it simply, with a low ball rate, the car is going to sit there. A more competitive rate will get it picked up quicker. I asked her point blank how quickly she thought she could find a driver. She said there was a 96% chance of picking up the car within 4 days. Because I placed the order before noon EDST, she was able to get the order posted that same day. Mind you, this was two days before the July 4th weekend, during a pandemic. Just over 24 hours later I received a call from Mavistar who had accepted the order. And 24 hours after that I received a personal text from the Mavistar driver who confirmed he had picked up my car and would be updating me on his progress as he drove across the country. This driver was AWESOME. He texted or called me every night and updated me on his ETA. Six days after I placed my order, my car was sitting in my driveway in pristine condition. You get what you pay for. If you want budget-level customer service, go with a different company. Sherpa prides itself on doing business the right way, and that they did! I couldn`t be happier with them.”

“This is the 4th year using Sherpa and I could not be happier with them. They provide a 5-day pick-up date but I have yet to wait the whole 5 days. Last Sunday I called to get a quote, and by Tuesday, the car was picked up and by Thursday my son`s car shipped from NC to RI! They are quick to get shipments completed and their communication throughout the whole process is incredible. The drivers are also awesome, I was constantly getting updates from them. Don`t be fooled by other transportation companies, they will give you an estimate a lot lower but will result in a horrible experience. Do yourself a favor and don`t bother with the other companies, Sherpa is honestly the best for your transportation needs.”

Consumer Affairs

“I researched about 10 or so transporters for my vehicle. I needed a classic car shipped from NC to NY. Sherpa was one of the top transport companies I came across while doing my research. As anyone should be, I was skeptical as I had never done this type of blind transaction. After talking to a Rep, I decided to book with SHERPA. I will say that I am 1000000% satisfied. Everything was up front. No hidden gimmicks or fees. They picked up and delivered my vehicle in the time frame they said they would. My car was delivered with no issues WHATSOEVER. I may never need another Auto transport. If I ever did, I would definitely use SHERPA again. Hats off to you guys.”

“Used Sherpa to ship my son’s car from North Carolina to Seattle. They had a four day window to schedule a pick pick up. They did an exceptional work locating a carrier and emphasizing that the car must be picked up by a certain date. They kept me well informed about the progress. Mike from Sherpa called and emailed multiple times a day with updates. The car was picked up and delivered in less than a week. The carrier Diesel Auto Express were awesome as well. This was a great and smooth experience, they even pay to have your car washed. Highly recommend Sherpa.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Mount Holly, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of North Carolina. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
