Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Monroe customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa Auto Transport offered a good rate, which is why I went with them. They are one of the top-rated services and that was important to me because I have dealt with some sketchy moving companies in the past. I had a fantastic experience with the transport. I found it to be simple. Driver communication was fantastic. My car showed up in perfect condition. It was a reliable service and I would use Sherpa again if I had to move back to North Carolina.”

Google
★★★★★

“I got quotes from many companies and while I found a couple of the largest ones to have good reviews on one site, they had very mixed reviews on Facebook or Yelp. This scared me away, which led me to Sherpa. Although it’s a new company, it had good reviews from multiple sources, and when I talked to an employee she was super knowledgeable and helpful. They were able to get it picked up in NC that same afternoon, which was on a Thursday. I then got the car the following Wednesday in Southern California.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“This is the 4th year using Sherpa and I could not be happier with them. They provide a 5-day pick-up date but I have yet to wait the whole 5 days. Last Sunday I called to get a quote, and by Tuesday, the car was picked up and by Thursday my son’s car shipped from NC to RI! They are quick to get shipments completed and their communication throughout the whole process is incredible.”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Monroe, NC significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances typically result in higher prices, but the per-mile rate often decreases for longer trips.
  • Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger and heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than compact cars due to the space they occupy and fuel consumption.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Monroe. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers extra protection for luxury or classic cars against weather and road debris.
  • Season: Auto transport prices in Monroe can fluctuate with the seasons. Summer months and January often see higher rates due to increased demand. Consider the mild climate of Monroe when planning your shipment.
  • Location Accessibility: Monroe’s proximity to major routes like I-485 and US-74 can help keep costs down. Urban areas are generally cheaper for pickup and delivery compared to rural locations.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles that can roll, brake, and steer are cheaper to ship. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.
  • Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window, such as Sherpa’s five-day option, can result in more competitive pricing for your car shipping needs.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Monroe, NC. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Monroe car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Pick strategic locations: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find pickup/dropoff points near major highways like I-485 or US-74. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and liability concerns, potentially leading to a better rate.
  • Be flexible: The more adaptable you are with dates and locations, the more options you’ll have. Flexibility often translates to better pricing for auto transport to or from Monroe, NC.
  • Consider off-peak seasons: If possible, schedule your car shipping during less busy times. Summer and holidays are typically more expensive due to high demand.

The state also mandates emissions testing for gasoline-powered vehicles in certain counties, including nearby Mecklenburg County. While Monroe itself doesn’t have toll roads, if you’re traveling through neighboring states, consider removing your E-ZPass or NC Quick Pass transponder to avoid unexpected charges.

For vehicle registration in North Carolina, you’ll need to visit a local DMV office within 60 days of establishing residency. Bring your out-of-state title, registration, and proof of insurance. Monroe residents can find the nearest DMV at 123 Skyway Drive. As for parking, while Monroe doesn’t require citywide permits, check with your new neighborhood or apartment complex for any specific regulations.

Monroe, North Carolina Vehicle Transport FAQs

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Monroe?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. “Upfront guaranteed delivery. Great communication. Guaranteed pickup in 4 day pickup window. Here is why you should go with Sherpa. My vehicle was picked up on a Tuesday in North Carolina and delivered at my driveway on Thursday to Colorado. 1700 miles in two days, no issues with the vehicle at all. (High Line Transport) was the driver. He kept great communication from pickup to dropoff. Sherpa made me feel comfortable explaining the process in detail, I why I should go with them instead of the other companies. I am glad I listened. Saved a lot of trouble vetting other companies.”

“You can`t go wrong with Sherpa! I admit that I initially placed an order with a different company — two companies actually. Neither could find a driver to transport my brand new Genesis GV70 from NC to NV in an enclosed trailer. I even paid the first company in full, and six days later they hadn`t even tried to find a driver. So eight days after buying a car in NC, I called Sherpa. The Sherpa rep explained the process of basically bidding for a space on a truck, and put me on hold while she looked up the current rate. To put it simply, with a low ball rate, the car is going to sit there. A more competitive rate will get it picked up quicker. I asked her point blank how quickly she thought she could find a driver. She said there was a 96% chance of picking up the car within 4 days. Because I placed the order before noon EDST, she was able to get the order posted that same day. Mind you, this was two days before the July 4th weekend, during a pandemic. Just over 24 hours later I received a call from Mavistar who had accepted the order. And 24 hours after that I received a personal text from the Mavistar driver who confirmed he had picked up my car and would be updating me on his progress as he drove across the country. This driver was AWESOME. He texted or called me every night and updated me on his ETA. Six days after I placed my order, my car was sitting in my driveway in pristine condition. You get what you pay for. If you want budget-level customer service, go with a different company. Sherpa prides itself on doing business the right way, and that they did! I couldn`t be happier with them.”

“I researched about 10 or so transporters for my vehicle. I needed a classic car shipped from NC to NY. Sherpa was one of the top transport companies I came across while doing my research. As anyone should be, I was skeptical as I had never done this type of blind transaction. After talking to a Rep, I decided to book with SHERPA. I will say that I am 1000000% satisfied. Everything was up front. No hidden gimmicks or fees. They picked up and delivered my vehicle in the time frame they said they would. My car was delivered with no issues WHATSOEVER. I may never need another Auto transport. If I ever did, I would definitely use SHERPA again. Hats off to you guys.”

“Used Sherpa to ship my son’s car from North Carolina to Seattle. They had a four day window to schedule a pick pick up. They did an exceptional work locating a carrier and emphasizing that the car must be picked up by a certain date. They kept me well informed about the progress. Mike from Sherpa called and emailed multiple times a day with updates. The car was picked up and delivered in less than a week. The carrier Diesel Auto Express were awesome as well. This was a great and smooth experience, they even pay to have your car washed. Highly recommend Sherpa.”

“I used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a Jeep from Charlotte, NC to Austin, TX two weeks ago and was very pleased with their service. They were very easy to work with, kept in contact with me, followed up on any questions, picked up and delivered as scheduled, and were fairly priced. When the carrier Sherpa hired to transport my vehicle had not contact me as planned, I called Sherpa who immediately contacted the carrier, then followed up to see that the carrier had called me. At each stage of the process, Sherpa kept me up to date with emails as to the status of the transport. The driver for the carrier communicated with me on the days of pickup and delivery as to the specific time (within an hour) and location for pick-up and drop-off, as the truck was too large for some neighborhood streets. The driver also took good care loading, securing, and unloading my vehicle. I worked primarily with one contact at Sherpa for the entire process but when she wasn’t available her colleague addressed and followed up on my question quickly. I highly recommend that Sherpa Auto Transport be considered for any of your vehicle transport needs.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Monroe, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of North Carolina. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
