What our Leland customers say about Sherpa:
“They couldn’t find a driver for the time that we had slotted, but it was also the holidays. It wasn’t a bad experience and we weren’t in any rush so it wasn’t a big deal for us anyway. We got emails saying they were trying to find drivers daily and then when they finally found one we then got calls. The vehicle was delivered the next night after it was picked up. The delivery guy was a nice guy. He called at 6:00 PM when he was in Leland.”
“The experience with Sherpa Auto Transport was seamless and the price was fair. I picked the transport company based on their D&B. It was a local transport firm in Charlotte. We live on close to a waterway, south of the Cape Fear River, which is Wilmington, North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The requirements were established with the logistical company that we called and we wanted it in an enclosed van and we wanted it to be a direct route.”
“I had a positive experience with Sherpa. If you are using a transport company please go into it knowing that it is a very aggressive industry. To get a quote you are required to provide your phone number and the various brokers, including Sherpa, will call and/or repeatedly until you tell them you’ve gone with someone else. Please also understand that these are brokers and not truckers. They are not the ones who will physically be transporting your vehicle.”

Factors that affect Leland Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey from or to Leland, NC significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Leland. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers added protection from weather and road debris, which can be beneficial during hurricane season in coastal North Carolina.
- Location Accessibility: Leland’s proximity to major routes like US-17 and I-40 can help keep costs down. However, if pickup or delivery is required in more remote areas of Brunswick County, it may increase the price.
- Seasonal Factors: Car shipping prices to and from Leland can fluctuate with the seasons. Summer months and January typically see higher rates due to increased demand, while spring and fall might offer more competitive pricing.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Also, inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the overall cost of transport.
- Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates when shipping a car to or from Leland. Rush or guaranteed delivery services will increase the cost.
- Current Fuel Prices: Fluctuations in fuel costs can affect car shipping rates, as carriers may adjust their prices to compensate for higher fuel expenses.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Leland, NC. - Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and potential liability issues during auto transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your car shipping services.
- Consider terminal-adjacent locations: While Sherpa doesn’t offer terminal-to-terminal services, choosing locations near transport hubs can sometimes lower costs.

Leland, North Carolina Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Leland?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Leland. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Leland?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Leland?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Leland?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. During summer months (June to August), temperatures in Leland can soar. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Place a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle to prevent melting.
- Consider scheduling your car transport for early morning or evening to avoid peak heat.
Winter in Leland (December to February) is generally mild, but occasional cold snaps can occur. When using car shipping services in winter:
- Ensure your vehicle is winterized, but avoid using snow chains as carriers can’t transport with them.
- Choose a pickup/drop-off location on level ground to prevent issues with icy surfaces.
- Remove any liquids that might freeze and expand, potentially causing damage.

Reviews from our North Carolina Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied North Carolina customers:
“I used Sherpa Auto Transport to transport a Jeep from Charlotte, NC to Austin, TX two weeks ago and was very pleased with their service. They were very easy to work with, kept in contact with me, followed up on any questions, picked up and delivered as scheduled, and were fairly priced. When the carrier Sherpa hired to transport my vehicle had not contact me as planned, I called Sherpa who immediately contacted the carrier, then followed up to see that the carrier had called me. At each stage of the process, Sherpa kept me up to date with emails as to the status of the transport. The driver for the carrier communicated with me on the days of pickup and delivery as to the specific time (within an hour) and location for pick-up and drop-off, as the truck was too large for some neighborhood streets. The driver also took good care loading, securing, and unloading my vehicle. I worked primarily with one contact at Sherpa for the entire process but when she wasn’t available her colleague addressed and followed up on my question quickly. I highly recommend that Sherpa Auto Transport be considered for any of your vehicle transport needs.”
“You can`t go wrong with Sherpa! I admit that I initially placed an order with a different company — two companies actually. Neither could find a driver to transport my brand new Genesis GV70 from NC to NV in an enclosed trailer. I even paid the first company in full, and six days later they hadn`t even tried to find a driver. So eight days after buying a car in NC, I called Sherpa. The Sherpa rep explained the process of basically bidding for a space on a truck, and put me on hold while she looked up the current rate. To put it simply, with a low ball rate, the car is going to sit there. A more competitive rate will get it picked up quicker. I asked her point blank how quickly she thought she could find a driver. She said there was a 96% chance of picking up the car within 4 days. Because I placed the order before noon EDST, she was able to get the order posted that same day. Mind you, this was two days before the July 4th weekend, during a pandemic. Just over 24 hours later I received a call from Mavistar who had accepted the order. And 24 hours after that I received a personal text from the Mavistar driver who confirmed he had picked up my car and would be updating me on his progress as he drove across the country. This driver was AWESOME. He texted or called me every night and updated me on his ETA. Six days after I placed my order, my car was sitting in my driveway in pristine condition. You get what you pay for. If you want budget-level customer service, go with a different company. Sherpa prides itself on doing business the right way, and that they did! I couldn`t be happier with them.”
“Definitely 5 stars. We shipped a car from Chapel Hill NC to Seattle WA. The professional staff at Sherpa had excellent customer service, gave clear information, the car transfer happened exactly as described, and the process seemed flawless. I know a lot of hard work goes into each car transfer, so it`s clear that their staff, processes, and systems are working very well. I will be telling anyone who asks about car transport companies that Sherpa is definitely the company to contact when you need to ship a car anywhere in the country.”
“For my 1st time shipping my car I had a great and easy experience. I moved from CA to NC and scheduled my shipment maybe 3 weeks to 1 month in advance. The company provided me with my actual drivers contact information, and he was very attentive to my needs and communicated projected pick up dates. He allowed me to fill the car, trunk and inside as long as nothing was visible over window lines. The day of drop off, the only negative was the time kept changing and it was tough having to be in a specific area to wait for him. The drop off was about 3 hours after expected, but my driver agreed to change locations to meet me where ever I’d be. The car was in original condition,, no issues. Would use again, if needed to. Company also offered a free car was and give a small rebate for booking online.”
“This is the 4th year using Sherpa and I could not be happier with them. They provide a 5-day pick-up date but I have yet to wait the whole 5 days. Last Sunday I called to get a quote, and by Tuesday, the car was picked up and by Thursday my son`s car shipped from NC to RI! They are quick to get shipments completed and their communication throughout the whole process is incredible. The drivers are also awesome, I was constantly getting updates from them. Don`t be fooled by other transportation companies, they will give you an estimate a lot lower but will result in a horrible experience. Do yourself a favor and don`t bother with the other companies, Sherpa is honestly the best for your transportation needs.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Leland, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of North Carolina. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
