What our White Plains customers say about Sherpa:
“I was moving from our home in New York to our other home in Palm Desert, California and I needed to get my Toyota Avalon transported. I had Sherpa Auto Transport do it as their responses were very professional and they appeared anxious to please. Their quote was competitive and firm as well. Their customer service representatives answered any question that I had and they communicated with me through the pickup and delivery of the vehicle.”
“It was such a struggle for me to figure out which transport company to choose. I did so much research, read so many horror stories and I couldn’t bear the thought of being amongst the many disappointed persons who felt blindsided by original quotes or by unfulfilled promises from many other transport companies that look for your business. So what I decided on doing was going with my gut and trusting the search I did on the Top 10 best auto transport companies out there…and I went with #1 SHERPA TRANSPORT.”
“I bought a car in New York – I’m in Illinois! Yikes! So, I had to get it home. I picked Sherpa because my wife had heard fellow travel nurses who’d used them for transporting their travel trailers. They seemed reasonable and professional. They didn’t fail me! Got my car from New York to Illinois in less than a week! Got a $50 rebate for booking online. Got a $20 car wash reimbursed when it arrived as well.”

Factors that affect White Plains Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between White Plains, NY and your destination significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer journeys.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from White Plains. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: White Plains’ proximity to major highways like I-287 and I-684 makes it relatively accessible for auto transport. This can help keep costs down compared to more remote locations.
- Seasonal Factors: White Plains experiences all four seasons, which can affect car shipping prices. Winter weather conditions may increase costs due to potential delays or the need for specialized equipment.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Additionally, inoperable cars require special handling, increasing the price.
- Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to lower costs. Rush orders or specific date requirements typically increase prices.
- Market Demand: Auto transport prices to and from White Plains may fluctuate based on current demand. Summer months and January often see higher prices due to increased relocation activity.

- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can lead to better options and potential savings. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective shipping times.

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from White Plains?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in White Plains
When scheduling car shipping services to or from White Plains, NY, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather patterns that can impact your auto transport experience. White Plains experiences all four seasons, each bringing unique challenges for car shipping companies.
Winter Considerations: White Plains winters can be harsh, with significant snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car during this season:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers cannot transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, avoiding steep inclines that can be treacherous for transport trucks.
- Remove any items from your vehicle that could freeze and potentially damage the interior.
Summer Precautions: While not as extreme as some regions, White Plains summers can be warm and humid. When using car transport services in summer:
- Consider placing a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior from heat damage.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle before shipping.
Peak Shipping Times: White Plains car shipping can be busier during certain periods:
- Late August and early September see increased demand due to college students returning to nearby universities.
- Spring and fall experience higher traffic as snowbirds migrate to and from warmer climates.
To avoid potential delays and higher costs, consider scheduling your auto transport a few weeks before or after these peak times. By planning ahead and taking these seasonal factors into account, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from White Plains, NY.
Car Shipping for College Students in White Plains, New York

For SUNY Purchase, just a short drive away, students can bring cars but must obtain a parking decal. Both universities offer winter break parking, but it’s wise to inquire about specific arrangements. Remember, White Plains experiences snowy winters, so snow tires are recommended. Before shipping your car to White Plains, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to your new location. If you’re using auto transport services, ensure your chosen car shipping company can accommodate your schedule and any specific needs. By planning ahead and understanding these factors, you’ll have a smoother transition when shipping a car to White Plains for your college experience.
Reviews from our New York Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied New York customers:
“I called Sherpa Auto Transport and I got somebody. It was a person who spoke English. That made me happy because I felt we were communicating. And we had a discussion. He told me how it all worked and how much it would cost. We talked about dates. And somehow they got back to me. They set it up. It was very smooth. They told me there would be a driver. Somebody said he would call. I got anxious about the whole thing. Because I`m in the middle of Manhattan. My car is in a garage. I can drive it where they need to. But how would I do it in the middle of Manhattan? The driver called me up and said, “I`ll be there in the blah, blah, minutes”. And I went over to the garage and got the car. And I thought, “What am I going to do? I`m going to have to park it somewhere. And then I`m gonna find a parking space.” It ended up being nothing at all. So, I waited on 55th Street. Second Avenue goes from one end of Manhattan all the way down to the other end. It goes from north to south. And he said, “I`ll meet you at 54th in a second. I`ll have my transport there.” I drove over there. And there he was with the transport. He got out. And we looked at the car. We had a chit-chat about it. And he said, “All right. See you later.” He got in the car. Drove it on the transport. I turned around, took a picture of it and left. The driver was a sweetheart. He picked the car up on a Friday. And it was delivered on a Tuesday. Whoever did it in Texas was a different person than I talked to, who was the ultimate driver. He called her a half an hour. He said he was 10 miles out. But she didn`t answer the phone. So, the driver called me. And I called her. And he called her. She lives in Austin, Texas. She lives more out in the suburbs. And she said, he didn`t want to bring it on her street because there were too many trees. She said, “I just jogged over to the, you know. It wasn`t very far.” She sent me a thing and said, “There`s this little ding here.” I said, “Oh, that`s an old one.” There was nothing. And he gave her the keys. She signed it, she gave him the check, and that was that. It was very smooth. They had their stuff together. The car got there in no time. Sherpa was great. Everybody was professional. I would recommend them.”
“Sherpa Auto Transport`s price was comparable, but their customer service was great. The reps were very polite, friendly, and tried to work with me the best they could. The price lock was a nice feature. And at the time, if I booked, I got a $100 rebate, which was another nice feature. The only thing I didn`t like was there was a very slight difference in price for paying with a credit card. It`s not easy to tell your daughter that`s thousands of miles away to have cash ready. But she said the delivery was fine. It was an hour before they would be there. The person showed up on time, notified her. They offered a voucher to get the car washed. So, she had that done. I submitted the receipt and they took care of it. I was completely satisfied and I`d recommend them.”
“A human answered the phone when I called Sherpa and they were nice to me. They were easy to talk to and communicate with. Some of the other companies were making some promises that couldn`t necessarily be kept. But Sherpa was the kind who would say those things, but they`re not going to make that promise unless they can actually do it. I set the transport up for mother-in-law and although everything was totally smooth and everything got delivered faster than expected, in perfect condition and was totally satisfied, the drivers who showed up didn`t speak any English at all. So, there was a little bit of a communication barrier there, but they worked through it. The cost was exactly what I expected. It was all completely transparent.”
“I liked Sherpa`s responsiveness and their price. The rep and I got in touch with one another and he told me he would find me a carrier and he did. It was also exactly the dates that I needed it done. I didn`t give him a very wide window. So, I was surprised. It all worked out really well. Then, he followed up to make sure. The driver was a really nice guy. He showed up, was very professional, did everything he was supposed to do paperwork-wise, took pictures, talked to me, explained the process, and then he dropped the car off right at my front door. They gave me a window of delivery and it was delivered a day before they thought it would be, which worked out perfectly.”
“Sherpa has a provision where if they cannot get your vehicle picked up for the amount of money that they quoted you, they are going to pay up to a certain amount more without charging you that. I used the service one time, and it was totally trouble-free. I used it the second time, and it was perfect. I`ve used these people now three times and they`re good. They know the product. They explain to you. Everything is also electronic. You are receiving some of the forms electronically, and you sign via email. Then you get a couple of text messages. If I have to move my car back to New York, I would call them. Twice, I was unable to be personally available to pick up the vehicle. I had to give them a different address to deliver the vehicle which was my friend`s house. They worked very well with me. It was also interesting that I got from them an email with a coupon saying in case my vehicle had any dust or dirt from the transportation, I can use the coupon for a free wash for my car.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in White Plains, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of New York. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
