What our Troy customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa had consistently good reviews about its reliability and ease to deal with and I experienced that. They told me that they charge a certain amount until they got a driver, and then they gave me a pick-up point, and instructions were very clear. They gave me the number of the driver throughout the way so I could check up on them. It was very fast, too. They got it in two days. It was faster than anticipated.”
“For people who aren`t aware of how auto transport works, they need to be over-communicative. I was traveling with my son to meet at a location, and I was trying to have the vehicle show up on Tuesday when I got there, but the other company that I ultimately didn`t go with messed up our timing. Fortunately, it worked out. I ended up calling Sherpa on a Friday, and their customer service was good. Pickup and delivery also went smooth, and the communication with the driver was excellent.”
“Sherpa was great, even though it came down to the last day for someone to pick up our contract, Sherpa said someone would and sure enough it did happen. The gentleman who arrived picked up the vehicle even though it was a difficult parking job for the semi they made it work. Would use them again!”

Factors that affect Troy Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Troy, NY. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but the cost per mile typically decreases for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Troy. Enclosed trailers, while offering more protection, are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: Troy’s proximity to major highways like I-87 and I-787 can help reduce shipping costs. Urban areas are generally cheaper to ship to than rural locations.
- Seasonal Factors: Troy’s weather can affect car shipping prices. Winter months may see higher rates due to challenging road conditions, while summer tends to be peak season for auto transport with increased demand.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. The dimensions and weight of your car will impact the overall shipping price to or from Troy.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to transport. If your car doesn’t run, it will require special equipment for loading, increasing the cost.
- Timing Flexibility: If you can be flexible with your pickup and delivery dates, you may find better rates for car shipping to Troy. Rush or guaranteed delivery times typically cost more.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Troy car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles from the area.

- Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-787 or I-90. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Troy car shipping needs. Carriers may offer discounts for filling spots in their existing schedules.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Troy?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Troy
When planning car shipping to or from Troy, NY, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. Troy experiences all four seasons distinctly, which can significantly impact auto transport logistics.
In winter, Troy often sees heavy snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re scheduling car shipping services during this time:
- Ensure your vehicle is equipped with all-season tires, as carriers can’t transport cars with snow chains.
- Choose pickup and drop-off locations on level ground to prevent issues with icy inclines.
- Remove any items from your car that could freeze and potentially damage the interior.
Summer in Troy can be warm and humid. When shipping a car during these months:
- Consider placing a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior from heat damage.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle before transport.
Troy’s proximity to several colleges, including Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, means that car transport demand peaks at the beginning and end of academic semesters. To avoid higher rates and potential delays:
- Book your auto transport a few weeks before or after the typical moving periods if possible.
- Be flexible with your pickup and delivery dates during these busy times.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from Troy, NY. Always work with a reputable car shipping company that understands the local climate and logistical challenges to guarantee the safe and timely delivery of your vehicle.

When considering car shipping to Troy, New York for college, it’s crucial to understand parking regulations at local universities. For Russell Sage College, limited parking is available with a permit. Students often seek off-campus options. Remember, Troy experiences harsh winters, so winter tires are a must for those keeping cars year-round. If you’re shipping a car for the academic year, check if your dorm or apartment offers long-term parking during breaks. Also, verify that your auto insurance and roadside assistance coverage are valid in Troy. By planning ahead and understanding these factors, you’ll ensure a smooth transition when using car transport services to bring your vehicle to your new college home in Troy.
Reviews from our New York Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied New York customers:
“Sherpa had a good rating on Better Business Bureau and it said that Sherpa was a bit more expensive than some of the other ones, but they had a guarantee to get your car moved in the appropriate time frame. I realized that in that industry, they give you a date but it would float a couple of days here or there. So, it’s not definitive because they are just an agent. They’re not actually moving the car. I was always moving out of state, so I wanted to make sure that I had that whole week. I would still be up in New York. So, I decided to call them and get a quote. I had some lowball quotes, but most of them were at 700, 800. The rep gave me a quote of 1,900 and I said to him, “Look, don’t you guys have some more guarantees than the other companies?” But $1,900, that’s more than double. He ended up inputting the wrong destination. He put it in California rather than North Carolina. So, he went back to check it, and then he said, “Oh, wait a minute. I screwed up. Hold on one second.” He then did it. They were a bit more expensive, but I wanted my car to get down there. I was moving to North Carolina and they’re based out of Charlotte. I called Sherpa the week before and they said, “Yeah, we don’t have anything yet. But typically, these things happen pretty quickly. We’ll let you know.” My first date was a Monday, 19th of July. Sherpa sent me an email on Sunday saying that, “We don’t have a driver yet, but we’re gonna keep you informed.” That was good to know that I was in the queue. I was surprised because Sherpa called me and said, “Okay, today’s the day, and guess what, we got a driver and the guy’s going to be there in a couple of hours.” He then told me the name of the company and said the guy would call me. He would be here in a couple of hours, which was accurate. So, I was prepared. I wish they gave me a bit more of a notice, but it was fine. I was home, and then the driver came. He called me when he got to my house and those folks were from North Carolina also. And the two folks from the company were very good. I gave one my daughter’s number, where he would drop the car off in North Carolina. I asked him when they would be there. Because with these auto transports, sometimes it would take three days. He said, “No, I’m going to be down there tomorrow. I’m probably not gonna get there till 5:00.” I said, “Okay, good. My daughter will be available any time after 3:00.” The driver was very courteous. I had a nice talk with him He got down there early and called my daughter. She said, “Look, I’m not going to be home until like 2:33.” He said, “Okay, no problem. I’ll hold off.” He came, dropped the car off, we had cash for him and everything worked out good. The car was in good shape, no dents. It looked exactly like it was in New York. They got my car up without incident and they were able to communicate to my destination. Everything worked out as planned and scheduled.”
“I called Sherpa Auto Transport and I got somebody. It was a person who spoke English. That made me happy because I felt we were communicating. And we had a discussion. He told me how it all worked and how much it would cost. We talked about dates. And somehow they got back to me. They set it up. It was very smooth. They told me there would be a driver. Somebody said he would call. I got anxious about the whole thing. Because I’m in the middle of Manhattan. My car is in a garage. I can drive it where they need to. But how would I do it in the middle of Manhattan? The driver called me up and said, “I’ll be there in the blah, blah, minutes”. And I went over to the garage and got the car. And I thought, “What am I going to do? I’m going to have to park it somewhere. And then I’m gonna find a parking space.” It ended up being nothing at all. So, I waited on 55th Street. Second Avenue goes from one end of Manhattan all the way down to the other end. It goes from north to south. And he said, “I’ll meet you at 54th in a second. I’ll have my transport there.” I drove over there. And there he was with the transport. He got out. And we looked at the car. We had a chit-chat about it. And he said, “All right. See you later.” He got in the car. Drove it on the transport. I turned around, took a picture of it and left. The driver was a sweetheart. He picked the car up on a Friday. And it was delivered on a Tuesday. Whoever did it in Texas was a different person than I talked to, who was the ultimate driver. He called her a half an hour. He said he was 10 miles out. But she didn’t answer the phone. So, the driver called me. And I called her. And he called her. She lives in Austin, Texas. She lives more out in the suburbs. And she said, he didn’t want to bring it on her street because there were too many trees. She said, “I just jogged over to the, you know. It wasn’t very far.” She sent me a thing and said, “There’s this little ding here.” I said, “Oh, that’s an old one.” There was nothing. And he gave her the keys. She signed it, she gave him the check, and that was that. It was very smooth. They had their stuff together. The car got there in no time. Sherpa was great. Everybody was professional. I would recommend them.”
“In October 2020, I used Sherpa Auto Transport to ship my daughter’s car from New York to Colorado. Trying to figure out the logistics of a quick move, due to a job change, had me wondering if shipping cars was even an option. A quick search on the web — yes indeed, there appear to be many companies that will ship autos. After reading many, many reviews I came to the conclusion that, according to those reviews, every company is either the best option or the worst option to use. It’s hard to filter through what can simply be unreasonable complaints vs. legitimate issues. Sherpa seemed to rank high on most websites that offered car transport company reviews so I decided to give them a call. In a very professional and friendly call the process of shipping a car and Sherpa’s role was explained to me. Very easy to follow and understand. I decided to hire Sherpa and filled out the necessary paperwork. I should mention that this came with a high level of anxiety. I’m rolling the dice on shipping a car with a lot of unknowns. I had flexibility in the pickup and delivery and scheduling was set up accordingly. As the pickup date approached I was contacted by Sherpa with confirmation that they booked a driver. I was told the driver would contact me and we’d arrange the pickup. There were a few hiccups with the communication with the driver and this is where I really appreciated the choice I made with Sherpa. They helped sort out the issues in a very timely, professional, manner and were willing to go so far as to book another driver if my confidence in the shipper they selected was low. I relied on their past positive experience with the shipper and decided to stick with them. I’m glad I did. The driver was very friendly and the entire process was smooth sailing. The pickup and drop off process was quick and without incident. Without question if I ever have the need to ship a car in the future, my choice will be Sherpa. I’m adding 2 pictures showing my daughter’s blue Ford loaded in NY and arriving in CO.”
“My boss had to transport his old Porsche from his Dad’s house in San Francisco to his Connecticut home. So, I Googled “Best shipping companies for cars” and I came across three. There was a company that was like $400 more than the cheapest and $200 more than the most expensive. I called but I didn’t follow up with them because I didn’t like that they had a five-day pick-up window because people are busy. I chose Sherpa because I liked my conversations with them and I liked the name. Sherpas are guides up in the mountains and they guide the mountain climbers up Everest and Mount Kailash in Tibet. Also, they came in line with the other three companies for the price. Crimson, the person I spoke to, was very informative. She gave me some good feedback and gave me a lot of information because being in New York City, I really don’t drive every day. Also, they were able to get KWIK. It was the shipping company they used and I got a rave review from the person who had the car in San Francisco who told me the driver was really nice, helpful, and courteous. They picked up the car on September 25th in San Francisco and they got it to Connecticut by October 2nd. The 25th was the best day in September for the person in San Francisco so, that worked out perfectly. They gave two dates for arrival and luckily for us, it came at the right time because if it came the next day, we would have been out of town and we would have had to put it in storage. My boss would have to be home to accept it because his wife was gonna be out of town. So, their customer service was great and talking to them was a pleasure. The car didn’t come damaged. They would have taken care if anything happened to the car but why put yourself in a situation where you have to do all that. I was happy because I told my boss we should go with them. I’m kind of new to working for him, so I wanted things to go smoothly. If they had done a lousy job, I would have been upset. But I was truly satisfied and everything worked out fine.”
“I live in Georgia and bought a car at a New York State. I had hired a transport company to start with and they weren’t getting anything done after about nine days. So, I was doing some research online and got some good feedback about Sherpa. They were mostly Americans. Most of the people I was dealing with that other company were not and they could barely understand them talking on the phone. I called the representative with Sherpa and they were easy to talk to and deal with. They understood my dilemma and they had me a driver in three days. The price was what they told me. I paid $450 more than I’d do with the previous company that I hired and fired but it was worth it. From what I understood, that was about what it was gonna cost anyway to get the car delivered. I did some research and was asking questions on a trucker transport forum. They were all saying that the price that I was given wouldn’t get anybody to bring the car to me. They said if I’d pay for the transport in the 1,400 to 1,500 bucks, I’d get it. And that was what I did. I ended up paying 1,500. But the driver that Sherpa had hired was professional, excellent, very helpful and very polite. He was top-notch. I would use that guy again. Even after he got the car off the trailer, he was helping me with the car. The reps from Sherpa were fantastic. I talked to two different guys and they were top-notch. They were very courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. They said that even if they needed to up the amount of money paid to the driver, they would lower their cost to the company in order to get the car to me. I’m very pleased with them. The condition of the vehicles is what it was when it left. There was no damage. Overall, the experience was great and I was very pleased with their service from Sherpa.”

About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of New York. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
