What our Schenectady customers say about Sherpa:
“The driver called two days before he got into Tucson and gave me an estimate when he was gonna be in. This courier lives in Phoenix, which is good. He knows the Tucson area and the streets. We don’t have a lot of trees in Tucson and there’s not a lot of overhead stuff so, he was able to drive off the interstate and come down the major road that I told him as well as on my street. He took the car off and brought it right to our front door. It was just how we loaded it when it arrived. It was an excellent experience with Sherpa.”
“The person that I talked to was very informative. Sherpa gave me the number of the driver. The driver texted me and let me know when the vehicle would be in the area. He was in constant communication. He was very professional and really cool. The experience was really good. Everything went well. They were honest, and upfront about everything.”
“I had a great experience with Sherpa from the moment I called to get a quote to the delivery of my car from California to New York. I highly recommend them because their quote price is firm and they keep you informed every step of the way.”

Factors that affect Schenectady Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey affects car shipping costs to and from Schenectady, NY. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and affordable option for auto transport to Schenectady. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection but cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: Schenectady’s proximity to major routes like I-90 and I-88 can help keep shipping costs down. Rural areas further from these highways may incur additional fees.
- Seasonal Factors: Schenectady’s harsh winters can affect car shipping prices. Icy roads and snowstorms may lead to higher rates or potential delays during the colder months.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Non-running cars require special equipment, increasing the price for auto transport to or from Schenectady.
- Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates when shipping a car to Schenectady. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically cost more.
- Market Demand: Car shipping prices may fluctuate based on the current demand for Schenectady routes. Popular times, like the start of college semesters at nearby universities, can affect rates.
Understanding these factors can help you plan and budget for your car shipping needs to or from Schenectady, NY. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Schenectady car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-90 or I-890. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and lower your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before transport. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during the auto transport process.
- Be flexible: Offer a range of pickup and delivery dates. The more flexible you are, the better options you’ll have for car shipping services to and from Schenectady, NY.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer. Shipping a car during off-peak times can result in better rates for Schenectady auto transport.
- Leverage Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise: While it’s tempting to shop around, remember that Sherpa’s quotes are realistic and locked-in. We ensure transparent, reliable car shipping without hidden costs.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Schenectady?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

- Remove snow tires or chains before transport, as carriers can’t ship vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, avoiding steep inclines that may be hazardous in icy conditions.
- Remove or properly insulate items that may freeze and expand during transit.
For summer auto transport (June to August), consider these precautions:
- Use a sunshade to protect your car’s interior from heat damage.
- Remove heat-sensitive items that might melt during transport.

Reviews from our New York Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied New York customers:
“I had some lowball quotes, but most of them were at 700, 800. The rep gave me a quote of 1,900 and I said to him, “Look, don’t you guys have some more guarantees than the other companies?” But $1,900, that’s more than double. He ended up inputting the wrong destination. He put it in California rather than North Carolina. So, he went back to check it, and then he said, “Oh, wait a minute. I screwed up. Hold on one second.” He then did it. They were a bit more expensive, but I wanted my car to get down there. I was moving to North Carolina and they’re based out of Charlotte. I called Sherpa the week before and they said, “Yeah, we don’t have anything yet. But typically, these things happen pretty quickly. We’ll let you know.” My first date was a Monday, 19th of July. Sherpa sent me an email on Sunday saying that, “We don’t have a driver yet, but we’re gonna keep you informed.” That was good to know that I was in the queue. I was surprised because Sherpa called me and said, “Okay, today’s the day, and guess what, we got a driver and the guy’s going to be there in a couple of hours.” He then told me the name of the company and said the guy would call me. He would be here in a couple of hours, which was accurate. So, I was prepared. I wish they gave me a bit more of a notice, but it was fine. I was home, and then the driver came. He called me when he got to my house and those folks were from North Carolina also. And the two folks from the company were very good. I gave one my daughter’s number, where he would drop the car off in North Carolina. I asked him when they would be there. Because with these auto transports, sometimes it would take three days. He said, “No, I’m going to be down there tomorrow. I’m probably not gonna get there till 5:00.” I said, “Okay, good. My daughter will be available any time after 3:00.” The driver was very courteous. I had a nice talk with him He got down there early and called my daughter. She said, “Look, I’m not going to be home until like 2:33.” He said, “Okay, no problem. I’ll hold off.” He came, dropped the car off, we had cash for him and everything worked out good. The car was in good shape, no dents. It looked exactly like it was in New York. They got my car up without incident and they were able to communicate to my destination. Everything worked out as planned and scheduled.”
“I called Sherpa Auto Transport and I got somebody. It was a person who spoke English. That made me happy because I felt we were communicating. And we had a discussion. He told me how it all worked and how much it would cost. We talked about dates. And somehow they got back to me. They set it up. It was very smooth. They told me there would be a driver. Somebody said he would call. I got anxious about the whole thing. Because I’m in the middle of Manhattan. My car is in a garage. I can drive it where they need to. But how would I do it in the middle of Manhattan? The driver called me up and said, “I’ll be there in the blah, blah, minutes”. And I went over to the garage and got the car. And I thought, “What am I going to do? I’m going to have to park it somewhere. And then I’m gonna find a parking space.” It ended up being nothing at all. So, I waited on 55th Street. Second Avenue goes from one end of Manhattan all the way down to the other end. It goes from north to south. And he said, “I’ll meet you at 54th in a second. I’ll have my transport there.” I drove over there. And there he was with the transport. He got out. And we looked at the car. We had a chit-chat about it. And he said, “All right. See you later.” He got in the car. Drove it on the transport. I turned around, took a picture of it and left. The driver was a sweetheart. He picked the car up on a Friday. And it was delivered on a Tuesday. Whoever did it in Texas was a different person than I talked to, who was the ultimate driver. He called her a half an hour. He said he was 10 miles out. But she didn’t answer the phone. So, the driver called me. And I called her. And he called her. She lives in Austin, Texas. She lives more out in the suburbs. And she said, he didn’t want to bring it on her street because there were too many trees. She said, “I just jogged over to the, you know. It wasn’t very far.” She sent me a thing and said, “There’s this little ding here.” I said, “Oh, that’s an old one.” There was nothing. And he gave her the keys. She signed it, she gave him the check, and that was that. It was very smooth. They had their stuff together. The car got there in no time. Sherpa was great. Everybody was professional. I would recommend them.”
“In October 2020, I used Sherpa Auto Transport to ship my daughter’s car from New York to Colorado. Trying to figure out the logistics of a quick move, due to a job change, had me wondering if shipping cars was even an option. A quick search on the web — yes indeed, there appear to be many companies that will ship autos. After reading many, many reviews I came to the conclusion that, according to those reviews, every company is either the best option or the worst option to use. It’s hard to filter through what can simply be unreasonable complaints vs. legitimate issues. Sherpa seemed to rank high on most websites that offered car transport company reviews so I decided to give them a call. In a very professional and friendly call the process of shipping a car and Sherpa’s role was explained to me. Very easy to follow and understand. I decided to hire Sherpa and filled out the necessary paperwork. I should mention that this came with a high level of anxiety. I’m rolling the dice on shipping a car with a lot of unknowns. I had flexibility in the pickup and delivery and scheduling was set up accordingly. As the pickup date approached I was contacted by Sherpa with confirmation that they booked a driver. I was told the driver would contact me and we’d arrange the pickup. There were a few hiccups with the communication with the driver and this is where I really appreciated the choice I made with Sherpa. They helped sort out the issues in a very timely, professional, manner and were willing to go so far as to book another driver if my confidence in the shipper they selected was low. I relied on their past positive experience with the shipper and decided to stick with them. I’m glad I did. The driver was very friendly and the entire process was smooth sailing. The pickup and drop off process was quick and without incident. Without question if I ever have the need to ship a car in the future, my choice will be Sherpa. I’m adding 2 pictures showing my daughter’s blue Ford loaded in NY and arriving in CO.”
“It was such a struggle for me to figure out which transport company to choose. I did so much research, read so many horror stories and I couldn’t bear the thought of being amongst the many disappointed persons who felt blindsided by original quotes or by unfulfilled promises from many other transport companies that look for your business. So what I decided on doing was going with my gut and trusting the search I did on the Top 10 best auto transport companies out there…and I went with #1 SHERPA TRANSPORT. I can’t express enough how well informed they were with me..their eagerness to reassure me and their following through with my expectations. My vehicle arrived intact…I was blessed that Sherpa Auto contracted a wonderful carrier…the driver contacted me and arrived on a timely manner and very professional. So all you nervous wrecks out there who question what to do…take it from me ..my satisfaction was 1000% positive!! Thanks Sherpa for your diligence and honesty. By the way, in case you’re wondering I transported a 2014 Ford Focus SE with only 29,000 miles from New York to Pheonix Arizona. My son’s first car while he’s training to become a commercial airline pilot!!”
“I bought a car in New York – I’m in Illinois! Yikes! So, I had to get it home. I picked Sherpa because my wife had heard fellow travel nurses who’d used them for transporting their travel trailers. They seemed reasonable and professional. They didn’t fail me! Got my car from New York to Illinois in less than a week! Got a $50 rebate for booking online. Got a $20 car wash reimbursed when it arrived as well. My only critique was the company they found to drive it here. The driver had a less than pleasant personality, was not going to give me any paperwork at the time of delivery until I asked for it. “Oh, you want a bill of laden? I guess I can fill one out for you.” Other than that, a seamless experience!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Schenectady, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of New York. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Ensure they offer adequate insurance coverage and are registered with the FMCSA. Compare quotes from multiple companies, but be wary of prices that seem too good to be true. Consider the range of services offered, such as door-to-door delivery or enclosed transport options. A reputable car shipping company should provide clear communication and transparent pricing. By carefully evaluating these factors, you can find a trustworthy partner to safely transport your vehicle to or from the Electric City, ensuring your car arrives as smoothly as a ride along the Mohawk River.
