- Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

Factors that affect Missouri Car Shipping Prices
- Distance and Route: Missouri’s central location impacts shipping costs. Routes along major interstates like I-70, I-44, and I-55 are typically more cost-effective. Longer distances, such as shipping from St. Louis to the West Coast, will naturally be more expensive than shorter routes within the Midwest.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like Kansas City and St. Louis offer more competitive pricing due to higher carrier availability. Rural pickups or deliveries in the Ozarks or northern Missouri may incur additional costs.
- Seasonal Factors: Missouri’s varied climate can affect car shipping prices. Summer is peak season, with higher demand and prices. Winter weather, especially in northern Missouri, may cause delays or require special considerations, potentially increasing costs.
- Vehicle Type: The size and weight of your vehicle impact shipping costs. A compact car will be less expensive to ship than a large SUV or pickup truck common in Missouri’s rural areas.
- Transport Method: Open transport is the most economical and widely used option for car shipping in Missouri. Enclosed transport, while more expensive, offers additional protection and may be preferred for high-value or classic vehicles, especially during harsh weather conditions.
- Timing and Flexibility: Booking in advance and offering flexible pickup and delivery dates can often result in better rates for Missouri car shipping. Rush or guaranteed delivery services will increase the cost.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Missouri. For more detailed information on car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Missouri car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles from the same area.
- Choose open transport: Open carriers offer the most cost-effective option for shipping your car to or from Missouri. While enclosed transport is necessary for some vehicles, open shipping provides greater flexibility and lower rates.
- Select strategic locations: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find pickup and dropoff points near major interstates like I-70 or I-44. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and lower your overall shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove all personal items from your car before transport. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues during the shipping process.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Carriers may offer discounts for shipments that fit well into their existing routes across Missouri.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport rates can fluctuate based on demand. If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer for potentially lower prices when shipping your car to or from the Show-Me State.

Missouri Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When shipping a car to Missouri or moving from the Show-Me State, it’s crucial to understand local vehicle requirements and regulations. Missouri doesn’t use toll roads, so there’s no need to worry about removing toll readers. However, the state does have specific vehicle inspection laws. Most vehicles require a safety inspection every other year, with exceptions for new cars within their first five years. When car shipping to Missouri, ensure your vehicle meets these standards to avoid potential issues.
Vehicle registration in Missouri is straightforward. New residents have 30 days to register their vehicles. You’ll need to provide proof of ownership, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance. Missouri also requires an emissions test for vehicles in St. Louis City and the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin, and Jefferson.
For those moving to Missouri, setting up utilities is an important step. Major electricity providers include Ameren Missouri and Evergy, while Missouri American Water serves many areas for water services. For internet, providers like AT&T, Spectrum, and CenturyLink offer services across the state.
Don’t forget to update your voter registration and enroll children in local schools. Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website provides resources for finding and enrolling in schools. Library cards can typically be obtained at your local branch with proof of residency.
If you’re leaving Missouri, remember to forward your mail, cancel local memberships, and notify relevant parties of your move. When using car transport services, consider Missouri’s weather. The state experiences hot summers and cold winters, so plan your auto transport accordingly. Major interstates like I-70 and I-44 make car shipping in Missouri efficient, connecting major cities like St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield.
Whether you’re moving to enjoy Missouri’s diverse landscapes or relocating elsewhere, understanding these local nuances will help ensure a smooth transition for both you and your vehicle.
Missouri Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Missouri?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Missouri. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Missouri?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Missouri?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Missouri?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.
Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Missouri
When planning car shipping to or from Missouri, it’s crucial to consider the state’s diverse seasonal weather patterns. Missouri experiences all four seasons distinctly, which can significantly impact auto transport logistics.
In winter, Missouri often sees snow and ice, particularly in the northern regions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Ensure your vehicle is equipped with all-season tires, as carriers can’t transport cars with snow chains.
- Choose pickup and drop-off locations on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions.
- Remove or properly insulate any items in your car that could freeze and potentially damage the vehicle.
Summer in Missouri can bring intense heat and humidity. For car transport during warmer months:
- Consider placing a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
Beyond weather considerations, timing is crucial for efficient Missouri car shipping. Keep in mind:
- College towns like Columbia or St. Louis see increased demand for auto transport services at the beginning and end of academic terms.
- The ‘snowbird season’ in late fall and early spring can affect availability and rates as people move between Missouri and warmer states.
- Major events, such as the Missouri State Fair in August, can lead to busier roads and potential delays.
To ensure a smooth car shipping experience, book your transport a few weeks in advance of peak times. This flexibility can help you secure better rates and more convenient scheduling with your chosen car shipping company.
Car Shipping for College Students in Missouri
When considering car shipping to Missouri for college, it’s crucial to understand each university’s parking policies. At the University of Missouri, students need to register their vehicles and purchase parking permits. On-campus parking is limited, so plan ahead. Many off-campus apartments offer parking, but always confirm before signing a lease. For Missouri State University, parking passes are required and can be purchased online. During winter breaks, both universities provide designated long-term parking areas, perfect if you’re using car transport services to head home.
Weather is another important factor when shipping a car to Missouri. Winters can be harsh, so consider snow tires for safety. Before using auto transport to bring your vehicle, check if your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to your new location. Many car shipping companies offer additional protection during transit, which might be worth considering.
For students at Washington University in St. Louis, parking options vary by campus location. The main campus requires permits, while some off-campus housing includes parking. If you’re shipping a car to smaller schools like Truman State University, you’ll find more relaxed parking policies, but always verify with the school’s transportation office. Remember, Missouri car shipping services can help you transport your vehicle safely and conveniently, allowing you to focus on your studies rather than a long drive.
Vehicle Shipping for Military Members in Missouri
Missouri is home to several military installations, making it a key destination for car shipping and auto transport services. Fort Leonard Wood, located in the heart of the state, is a major Army training center. For military members relocating to this base, on-post housing often includes designated parking areas. However, if you’re living off-base, most neighborhoods have ample street parking.
When it comes to vehicle registration, Missouri offers a grace period for newly stationed personnel. You’ll have 30 days to register your vehicle after establishing residency. The base provides a Vehicle Registration Office to assist with this process.
Whiteman Air Force Base, another significant installation, offers on-base parking for personnel. The surrounding communities are generally car-friendly, with few parking restrictions. Both bases feature commissaries and exchanges, providing essential resources for military families.
For those using car shipping services to Missouri, it’s important to coordinate delivery locations with your chosen car shipping company. While bases may have restrictions on commercial vehicles, there are usually designated areas nearby for safe and convenient vehicle drop-offs.
At Sherpa Auto Transport, we’re proud to offer a $50 military discount on our car transport services. We sincerely thank all service members and their families for their dedication and sacrifice. Whether you’re shipping a car to Fort Leonard Wood, Whiteman AFB, or any location in Missouri, we’re here to ensure a smooth and stress-free auto transport experience.
Reviews from our Missouri Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Missouri customers:
“My son had his household goods as well as the car moved from Washington to Missouri. For the car transport, we looked at three different companies and ended up with Sherpa because the cost was reasonable. That worked out perfectly. We had a very good encounter with customer service. I didn’t have any problems understanding how the process worked. The quote we got was kind of what I was expecting and it was accurate. When I initially made the arrangement, the fellow said that I would get a $100 rebate in the form of a Visa card. It was about eight days from the time of pickup to the time of delivery. The carrier driver was fine. He had a bit of an accent but we were able to understand him. The guy didn’t bring the car to our house, which had plenty of access. There was a more convenient spot for him. Our roads are extremely wide and we’re right off of a major highway, Route 61. He wouldn’t have had any trouble coming up into this neighborhood. Nonetheless, it wasn’t a problem for us. I was okay with the arrangement. We got the car and we were completely happy with the service. The car was dirty as could be expected because it was an open transport. But the car looked like it was in the same shape as it was when we sent it. We would use Sherpa and we would recommend them as well. I wouldn’t have any trouble if somebody just called them only.”
“We were moving across the country and I was looking at the top five rated on Google. Sherpa came up and I liked their customer service compared to everybody else that I called. Everything went smoothly. The rep answered any question I had. When he finally told me the price, nothing deviated off from that. I did a couple of changes last minute and he honored the original price even though he didn’t have to. I was very satisfied with everything, especially the timeframe of when the vehicles were picked up and then delivered. It was amazing. The first three vehicles were picked up on Friday and they were delivered on Monday, from Washington to Missouri. My father was there during the pick-up and he said the drivers were knowledgeable about tying everything down. They were respectful of the vehicles and they loaded them on and off the trailer. When they showed up, I met with the guy and the kids that were transporting and they seemed like they knew how to take care of their loads. Everything was perfect when it showed up. The vehicles were in the exact same conditions the last time I saw them aside from them being cleaner than the way they got them because of all the rain that they had on the way.”
“Sherpa gave a quote that met my budget. Everything was excellent and smooth. I was very concerned because I heard horror stories about auto transport companies. I want to safely transport my truck, Elvis. I took pictures of him. Dimitri was my driver and he was the best person to work with. The person that I dealt with on the phone that contracted Dimitri out was awesome the whole time too. I was given numbers to call if I could not get a hold of Dimitri. There was always someone there if something would happen. They took care of Elvis. Dimitri got to the destination two days prior than what I was expecting. He kept me posted the whole time. As he was traveling, he told me he was ahead of schedule. I was very excited because I was thinking I was going to have to wait for my vehicle. I flew to Missouri from California and my vehicle was there the very next day. I checked everything to make sure there were no scratches and it turned out great. I’ve recommended Sherpa.”
“Sherpa has amazing service. My experience with them was so smooth and satisfied. They transported my 2022 Genesis GV 70 all perfect door to door from California to Missouri. I will definetly recommend 🙂 Thanks”
“I shipped the car from Virginia to Missouri and the car arrive practically overnight. With no incidents. I would recommend this company to everyone.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Missouri, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Missouri. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
