What our St. Paul customers say about Sherpa:
“My experience with Sherpa was excellent. I booked online for Minnesota to las vegas on Friday 24 May(during memorial day weekend), understandable that they can`t confirm the carrier during the holiday. Then as soon as holiday ends, on Tuesday 28 May morning before 9am, receive call from Sherpa they found a carrier and can pick up tomorrow (29 May) for my car”
“My Honda CRV went from South Carolina to Minnesota. I don’t like to pay that much, but Sherpa’s quote was fair. I sent the car to my daughter who’s 22, and the driver was close to the same age. Sometimes we get images in our head of gruff, old truck drivers, but this driver was the sweetest, nicest young man.”
“Everyone has different experiences I suppose but Mine was absolutely flawless. Moved to MN from CA, I picked a closed transport- their price is higher that other companies I looked at but there is a reason for that. THEY ARE RELIABLE. Talking to them via email- they respond so darn fast.”

Factors that affect St. Paul Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: St. Paul’s central location affects car shipping costs. Longer distances, such as shipping to coastal areas, typically increase prices. However, St. Paul’s proximity to major interstates like I-94 and I-35E can help keep costs down for regional transport.
- Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from St. Paul. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers protection from Minnesota’s harsh winters and road salt for high-value vehicles.
- Seasonal Factors: St. Paul’s climate can impact car shipping prices. Winter weather may cause delays or require special equipment, potentially increasing costs. Summer is often busier for auto transport, which can also affect pricing.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, common in Minnesota, may cost more to ship due to their size and weight. Non-running vehicles incur additional fees for special loading equipment.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: St. Paul’s urban setting generally allows for more competitive pricing compared to rural areas in Minnesota. However, specific neighborhoods or suburbs may affect accessibility and cost.
- Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can reduce costs when shipping a car to or from St. Paul. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically come at a premium.
- Route Popularity: St. Paul’s location on popular transport routes to and from Chicago, Milwaukee, and other Midwest cities can sometimes lead to more competitive pricing due to higher carrier availability.

Minnesota doesn’t use toll roads, so you won’t need to worry about removing a toll reader. However, the state does require vehicle registration within 60 days of establishing residency. To register, you’ll need proof of ownership, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
St. Paul experiences harsh winters, so if you’re moving during the colder months, ensure your car is winter-ready. This includes having proper tires and antifreeze. When using car shipping services to St. Paul, consider enclosed auto transport to protect your vehicle from the elements.

St. Paul, Minnesota Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from St. Paul?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from St. Paul. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from St. Paul?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from St. Paul?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to St. Paul?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in St. Paul
When planning car shipping to or from St. Paul, MN, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. St. Paul experiences distinct seasons, each with unique challenges for auto transport.
In winter, St. Paul often sees heavy snowfall and icy conditions. When scheduling car shipping services during this time:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping.
- Remove items that might freeze and expand, potentially damaging your vehicle.
During summer, while not as extreme as some regions, St. Paul can experience warm temperatures. For shipping a car in summer:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect your car’s interior.
- Remove heat-sensitive items that could melt or warp.
Beyond weather, St. Paul car shipping can be affected by local events and patterns:
- College moves: With several universities in the area, August and May can be busy for car transport. Consider shipping a few weeks before or after these peak times.
- Snowbird season: While not as prominent as in some states, there is some snowbird movement. This can affect auto transport availability in late fall and early spring.
By considering these factors, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from St. Paul, MN. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on seasonal considerations.
Car Shipping for College Students in St. Paul, Minnesota
When considering car shipping to St. Paul, Minnesota for college, it’s crucial to understand each university’s parking policies. At the University of St. Thomas, students need parking permits, which can be purchased online. Macalester College offers limited on-campus parking, so early registration is key. For Hamline University, most dorms don’t include parking, so plan accordingly. Remember to check if your auto transport company offers winter storage options, as St. Paul’s harsh winters may require it. Snow tires are highly recommended for safe driving in icy conditions. Before finalizing your car shipping services, verify that your roadside assistance coverage extends to Minnesota. Lastly, consider the convenience of shipping a car versus bringing it yourself, especially if you’re unfamiliar with winter driving. Planning ahead ensures a smooth transition to college life in St. Paul.
Reviews from our Minnesota Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Minnesota customers:
“My girlfriend was moving from Minneapolis to Phoenix and we were shipping a Jag XJL. We looked into five shipping companies before choosing Sherpa, which was the highest-rated. The gal that I spoke to the first day was awesome. We spoke about five times over the ensuing three days and she was very helpful. She gave me a lot of information and several different quotes, and was very accommodating. Their price was a little higher than two of the other ones, but Sherpa was worth it. The delivery was fantastic. First of all, they gave us the estimated delivery date. The driver also called to ask me the day before if it was okay that he would be there between 9:00 and noon. And I said sure. I’m a surgeon and unfortunately I wound up with an emergency operation scheduled on that day. I called him back on his phone at about 6 o’clock at night to tell him I got an emergency appointment that came up and if there was any way he could deliver it later. I told him I won’t be in until around 11:30 pm. He came probably about 1:00 AM. There was no traffic and there was no one on the street. It was very easy to get the car unloaded. They did a fantastic job. The car’s condition was perfect, not a mark on it. The quality of the service that I got was unequalled, and I wound up giving the driver a nice, big tip as well because of his ability to accommodate me in the delivery. I was very happy with the service. They made it very painless and they were very helpful. The whole thing went very smoothly and I’ve given their name to two other people for vehicle transport the last two weeks.”
“Sherpa was highly rated and the individual that I ended up speaking with when I was making arrangements was very professional, courteous and not pushy. They notified me of when the things would happen, usually by text or voice mail, and it was always good information and helpful. The quote was a little higher than some of the others, but the rating was what reassured me. The representative explained that the quote included a cushion for the company because they couldn’t predict what they would have to pay a shipper or a trucker so that I was protected from getting a quote and then having it go up when they were loading the car. Some places gave me quotes that were lower but having read some reviews, it could go up and it might be at the last minute when you are ready to have the transaction happen. The car was the same as when the driver picked it up. I remembered from the reviews of Sherpa that the cars are washed before they’re delivered, which would be nice. And the car was not washed. But it didn’t bother me when it didn’t happen. It was nice to be able to work with a company where I have confidence in what they did. The driver was very good with his communication and the car arrived a day earlier than we thought it might. And that was a plus, because I was already here in Minnesota. It was painless contacting Sherpa. They were informative and courteous. And the whole process went smoothly.”
“I was transferring a car from my grandpa to myself, and I saw Sherpa on Forbes as one of the top transfer companies. Setting up the transport was outstanding, very straightforward and transparent. Customer support was really good. The rep, Marvin, had an open line and let me call him whenever I needed to. The car was picked up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and dropped off in South Carolina. They picked it up on that Thursday, and the guy they contracted with was great. He let me text him whenever I needed to, and he was very straightforward. And he got to South Carolina in about two days so I was worried he wasn’t sleeping too much. They were very meticulous about the car. And that was one of the worries I had going into it. And there were no scratch marks, and it looked just as good as when we had it picked up.”
“Delivered my Dad’s restored 1957 Chevy from Seattle to St.Cloud Minnesota and there wasn’t a speck of dirt on it when it got here. I had these get it here after I tried PCS Auto Ship. A guy named Matt Denney at PCS cursed me up and down for saying his prices were to high and then stalked me on Facebook. Thank God I went with Sherpa and not PCS! Would recommend them 120%!”
“I sent my Lexus CT 200h from Rochester MN to Houston TX. The Sherpa was excellent in answering the calls. Did not promise too much, but said they will increase their bid, by up to $300, if a carrier is not found for my window without increasing my quoted price. I also have a strict pickup and delivery window. (While other companies who wanted to get the business promised a driver far in advance for a pickup date, Sherpa said that is not how the system works.) I was worried but stayed with them and just a day before the pickup date they called with a driver information. Driver was very good too. Great service. I will continue using Sherpa. Unil”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in St. Paul, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Minnesota. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
