What our Duluth customers say about Sherpa:
“My experience with Sherpa was excellent. I booked online for Minnesota to las vegas on Friday 24 May(during memorial day weekend), understandable that they can`t confirm the carrier during the holiday. Then as soon as holiday ends, on Tuesday 28 May morning before 9am, receive call from Sherpa they found a carrier and can pick up tomorrow (29 May) for my car and I received email confirmation with possible delivery date of 31 May-2 June…”
“My Honda CRV went from South Carolina to Minnesota. I don`t like to pay that much, but Sherpa`s quote was fair. I sent the car to my daughter who`s 22, and the driver was close to the same age. Sometimes we get images in our head of gruff, old truck drivers, but this driver was the sweetest, nicest young man. He dropped me back at my house, so I had to take the car down a little ways because it`s my street.”
“Everyone has different experiences I suppose but Mine was absolutely flawless. Moved to MN from CA, I picked a closed transport- their price is higher that other companies I looked at but there is a reason for that. THEY ARE RELIABLE. Talking to them via email- they respond so darn fast. Dont worry if when you call them- they cant answer- it concerned me in the beginning but via email- they answer right away.”

Factors that affect Duluth Car Shipping Prices
- Distance and Route: The distance between Duluth, MN and your destination greatly affects car shipping costs. Duluth’s location near Lake Superior and major highways like I-35 can influence pricing. Longer distances generally mean higher costs, but routes along major interstates can be more economical.
- Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Duluth. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers protection from Duluth’s harsh winters and potential road debris. However, it’s typically only necessary for high-value or classic vehicles.
- Seasonal Factors: Duluth’s extreme weather conditions can impact car shipping prices. Winter snow and ice may increase costs due to challenging road conditions, while summer months might see higher demand and prices for auto transport services.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks, common in Duluth for handling snow, may cost more to ship than compact cars. Inoperable vehicles also increase costs as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Shipping to or from Duluth’s urban areas is generally cheaper than rural locations. Consider meeting the carrier at a more accessible location near major routes like I-35 to potentially reduce costs.
- Flexibility and Timing: Opting for a wider pickup window can lower your car shipping costs. However, if you need expedited service to beat Duluth’s winter weather, expect to pay a premium.

- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better pricing options. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective shipping times.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Duluth?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Duluth
When planning car shipping to or from Duluth, MN, it’s crucial to consider the city’s unique seasonal weather patterns. Duluth experiences harsh winters and mild summers, which can significantly impact auto transport logistics.
During the winter months (November to March), Duluth often sees heavy snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Ensure your vehicle is equipped with all-season tires, as carriers cannot transport cars with snow chains.
- Choose pickup and drop-off locations on level ground to prevent issues with icy inclines.
- Remove any items from your car that could freeze and potentially damage the interior.
In contrast, summers in Duluth are generally mild, but it’s still wise to take precautions when shipping a car during warmer months:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect your car’s interior from heat damage.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle before transport.
Beyond weather considerations, Duluth car shipping can be affected by seasonal events. As home to several colleges, including the University of Minnesota Duluth, the city sees increased demand for auto transport services at the beginning and end of academic terms. To avoid potential delays and higher costs, consider scheduling your car transport a few weeks before or after these peak periods.
Additionally, Duluth’s proximity to popular vacation spots can lead to busier shipping routes during summer months. If flexibility allows, booking your car shipping during the shoulder season (spring or fall) may result in more favorable rates and scheduling options.
By keeping these seasonal factors in mind, you can ensure a smoother, more efficient car shipping experience to or from Duluth, MN. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on seasonal considerations and best practices.
Car Shipping for College Students in Duluth, Minnesota
When considering car shipping to Duluth for college, it’s crucial to understand the parking situation at local universities. The University of Minnesota Duluth requires students to purchase parking permits, with options for both on-campus residents and commuters. Winter parking regulations are strictly enforced, so students should be prepared for snow removal procedures. For those using auto transport services to bring their cars, it’s wise to confirm storage options during breaks. The College of St. Scholastica also offers student parking, but spaces are limited. Students planning to ship a car should verify if their off-campus housing includes parking. Remember, Duluth’s harsh winters necessitate proper vehicle preparation. Consider investing in snow tires and ensure your car is winterized before using car shipping services. Lastly, check that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to Duluth, providing peace of mind after your car transport is complete.
Reviews from our Minnesota Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Minnesota customers:
“My girlfriend was moving from Minneapolis to Phoenix and we were shipping a Jag XJL. We looked into five shipping companies before choosing Sherpa, which was the highest-rated. The gal that I spoke to the first day was awesome. We spoke about five times over the ensuing three days and she was very helpful. She gave me a lot of information and several different quotes, and was very accommodating. Their price was a little higher than two of the other ones, but Sherpa was worth it. The delivery was fantastic. First of all, they gave us the estimated delivery date. The driver also called to ask me the day before if it was okay that he would be there between 9:00 and noon. And I said sure. I’m a surgeon and unfortunately I wound up with an emergency operation scheduled on that day. I called him back on his phone at about 6 o’clock at night to tell him I got an emergency appointment that came up and if there was any way he could deliver it later. I told him I won’t be in until around 11:30 pm. He came probably about 1:00 AM. There was no traffic and there was no one on the street. It was very easy to get the car unloaded. They did a fantastic job. The car’s condition was perfect, not a mark on it. The quality of the service that I got was unequalled, and I wound up giving the driver a nice, big tip as well because of his ability to accommodate me in the delivery. I was very happy with the service. They made it very painless and they were very helpful. The whole thing went very smoothly and I’ve given their name to two other people for vehicle transport the last two weeks.”
“Sherpa was highly rated and the individual that I ended up speaking with when I was making arrangements was very professional, courteous and not pushy. They notified me of when the things would happen, usually by text or voice mail, and it was always good information and helpful. The quote was a little higher than some of the others, but the rating was what reassured me. The representative explained that the quote included a cushion for the company because they couldn’t predict what they would have to pay a shipper or a trucker so that I was protected from getting a quote and then having it go up when they were loading the car. Some places gave me quotes that were lower but having read some reviews, it could go up and it might be at the last minute when you are ready to have the transaction happen. The car was the same as when the driver picked it up. I remembered from the reviews of Sherpa that the cars are washed before they’re delivered, which would be nice. And the car was not washed. But it didn’t bother me when it didn’t happen. It was nice to be able to work with a company where I have confidence in what they did. The driver was very good with his communication and the car arrived a day earlier than we thought it might. And that was a plus, because I was already here in Minnesota. It was painless contacting Sherpa. They were informative and courteous. And the whole process went smoothly.”
“I was transferring a car from my grandpa to myself, and I saw Sherpa on Forbes as one of the top transfer companies. Setting up the transport was outstanding, very straightforward and transparent. Customer support was really good. The rep, Marvin, had an open line and let me call him whenever I needed to. The car was picked up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and dropped off in South Carolina. They picked it up on that Thursday, and the guy they contracted with was great. He let me text him whenever I needed to, and he was very straightforward. And he got to South Carolina in about two days so I was worried he wasn’t sleeping too much. They were very meticulous about the car. And that was one of the worries I had going into it. And there were no scratch marks, and it looked just as good as when we had it picked up.”
“Sherpa did an amazing job!! We highly recommend them! We initially contracted another company and it was all about “Bait and Switch”. Meaning: more money than what was quoted. Sherpa quoted, picked up by deadline, and communication from trucking company was great!!!! ( Jose Borges Trucking). We had broke down in Colorado; rented a car to get back to Minnesota. We contacted Sherpa and they took care of getting our vehicle back to Minnesota. We are so very pleased!!”
“Delivered my Dad’s restored 1957 Chevy from Seattle to St.Cloud Minnesota and there wasn’t a speck of dirt on it when it got here. I had these get it here after I tried PCS Auto Ship. A guy named Matt Denney at PCS cursed me up and down for saying his prices were to high and then stalked me on Facebook. Thank God I went with Sherpa and not PCS! Would recommend them 120%!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Duluth, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Minnesota. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
