What our Troy customers say about Sherpa:
“For people who aren’t aware of how auto transport works, they need to be over-communicative. I was traveling with my son to meet at a location, and I was trying to have the vehicle show up on Tuesday when I got there, but the other company that I ultimately didn’t go with messed up our timing. Fortunately, it worked out. I ended up calling Sherpa on a Friday, and their customer service was good. Pickup and delivery also went smooth, and the communication with the driver was excellent.”
“Sherpa had consistently good reviews about its reliability and ease to deal with and I experienced that. They told me that they charge a certain amount until they got a driver, and then they gave me a pick-up point, and instructions were very clear. They gave me the number of the driver throughout the way so I could check up on them. It was very fast, too. They got it in two days. It was faster than anticipated.”
“Sherpa was great, even though it came down to the last day for someone to pick up our contract, Sherpa said someone would and sure enough it did happen. The gentleman who arrived picked up the vehicle even though it was a difficult parking job for the semi they made it work. Would use them again!”

Factors that affect Troy Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Troy, MI. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Troy. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, are about 50% more expensive and typically have longer delivery times.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship to Troy due to the space and fuel they require. Compact cars are generally more affordable to transport.
- Seasonal Factors: Troy’s weather can affect car shipping prices. Winter months may see higher rates due to challenging road conditions, while summer often brings increased demand and potentially higher prices.
- Location Accessibility: Troy’s proximity to major highways like I-75 and I-696 can help keep costs down. However, if you’re shipping to or from a less accessible area, it may increase the price.
- Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower car shipping costs. Rush or guaranteed delivery services to Troy will increase the price.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship to Troy than inoperable ones, which require special equipment for loading and unloading.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Troy, MI. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

- Consider location: Discuss pickup and drop-off points with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-75 or I-696. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues for the auto transport company.
- Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better options and potentially lower costs for your car shipping service.
- Avoid peak seasons: If possible, schedule your Troy, MI auto transport during off-peak times to avoid higher rates associated with busy periods like summer or holidays.

Troy, Michigan Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Troy?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Troy. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Troy?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Troy?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Troy?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Troy
When planning car shipping to or from Troy, MI, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather patterns that can impact your auto transport experience. Troy experiences distinct seasons, with cold winters and warm summers, which can affect your car shipping services in several ways.
During winter months (November to March), Troy car shipping can be challenging due to snow and ice. Consider these tips:
- Avoid scheduling pickup or delivery on steep inclines, as carriers need stable surfaces.
- Remove snow tires or chains before transport, as most carriers don’t allow them.
- Don’t leave items that could freeze in your vehicle during transport.
In summer (June to August), shipping a car to Troy requires different precautions:
- Use a sunshade to protect your car’s interior from heat damage.
- Remove heat-sensitive items that might melt during transport.
Beyond weather, consider peak car transport times in Troy:
- Late August and early September see increased demand due to college students returning to nearby universities.
- Spring (April-May) can be busy as snowbirds return from warmer climates.
To avoid higher rates and potential delays, consider scheduling your auto transport a few weeks before or after these peak times. By planning ahead and considering these factors, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from Troy, MI.
Car Shipping for College Students in Troy, Michigan
When considering car shipping to Troy, Michigan for college, it’s crucial to understand the parking situation. Oakland University, located nearby, requires students to register their vehicles and purchase parking permits. On-campus parking is available, but spaces can be limited during peak hours. For Walsh College in Troy, free parking is provided for students and visitors. However, always check the specific rules for each lot. Many off-campus apartments offer parking, but it’s wise to confirm this before signing a lease. During winter breaks, some universities provide long-term parking options, but it’s best to inquire about availability and any associated fees. Given Michigan’s harsh winters, investing in snow tires is highly recommended for student drivers. Lastly, before shipping your car to Troy, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to your new location. Planning ahead for these factors will ensure a smoother transition when bringing your vehicle to college in the Troy area.
Reviews from our Michigan Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Michigan customers:
“Writing a review because I relied heavily on these while deciding which broker company to go with to find someone to transport my car from Utah to Michigan. Some background information…I am a gal in my early 20`s that has NO IDEA how these things work. So if you are in the same position as me, this review is for you haha. I first decided to go through with another company who ended up not being authorized which made me extremely nervous while looking for a new company. I found Sherpa on Forbes and after reading the reviews and seeing that if the car doesn`t get picked up by a driver towards the end of the 5 day period you agree on, they contribute their own money, I decided to go through with Sherpa. One thing I learned is to never put down a down payment with a broker. This is apparently a sketchy practice. Sherpa DOES ask for a card to be on file, but they DO NOT charge it until they find someone to pick up your car. In my case, they contributed $150 of the $300 broker fee towards the payment for the actual driver so I ended up paying Sherpa $150 dollars. I will say, I was nervous that my car wouldn`t get picked up within the 5 day time period, but Sherpa found a driver on the 4th day and it was picked up that same day. They stayed in communication with the company that transported my car the entire way. I would 100% use Sherpa again in the future if I need to transport my car somewhere.”
“Only one review?? Wow, that sucks because I would`ve sworn this company was one of the most credible. I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article. After retrieving a quote for nearly every company in the article, I instantly put Sherpa at the top of my list because of their promised flat-rate policy. If you have experience shipping a car, you know how great this is. Shortly after, I received a phone call from a very lovely worker who offered me a much appreciated rebate if I chose to go with them instead of other companies I was considering at the time. He also explained the entire process very thoroughly which was very helpful for my young, confused mind. I instantly felt like I would be in good hands leaving my precious baby in the hands of a stranger for 5 days to a week, and this feeling held true throughout the entire process. The company they partnered with (Spark Prime Logistics, in my case) handled my car with the upmost care and she actually arrived in better condition than when I left her (broken trunk hatch issue…maybe the desert heat helped? idk, but I`m not complaining lol). My carrier wouldn`t even pull into a residential street to avoid scratching anyone`s vehicle. Instant approval. I trust that Sherpa would only partner the best of the best to get the job done. All in all, I am absolutely pleased with Sherpa and would confidently say that I`d instantly go to them if I ever again decide to make another crazy man`s move across states. No more searching. Sherpa for the win!”
“I saw really great reviews for Sherpa and there was nothing that stood out to me that made me want to deter from them. I had a good feeling just from reading the reviews and the company history. They were the better option. I filled out a form online and within a few hours, I received an email stating that they could help me further make my decision on everything else. It was a good experience and the salespeople were not pushy. The customer support helped me. I was able to get the shipment place and everything during that call, so everything was handled. Sherpa offered multiple options for the transport and I chose the uncovered one. I was quoted a higher price for the service. I spoke to a representative and they noticed that the year of my car was wrong so they changed that and I got a lower price. That was really good. I really like the price lock too. I wasn`t able to pay over the phone and I was able to hold that amount for a few days until I was able to pay for that shipment. That was really helpful. I really liked that I was able to keep the new quoted amount. The car was transported from Florida to Michigan and the delivery was very fast. The car came within two or three days. And the delivery service was very friendly. They kept me updated throughout the entire time. When the car got here, they gave me a rundown. It was my first time seeing this car as I purchased it. They made sure I took pictures if there were any issues. I liked the process through and through. I would tell others to check out the Sherpa website, fill out the forms and appropriate things for the vehicle that they need. I have recommended them to my friends and I would definitely tell them to check it out.”
“I was moving from Michigan to Florida and I reached out to Sherpa to transport my car. I talked to other companies and a lot of them were being overly otimistic and over promising. But when I spoke to Sherpa, they told me about the deal, how it works, what they could guarantee, and what they couldn`t promise me. They laid out the most realistic picture of what could be expected and based on their feedback, I changed my plan completely. I was going to ship the vehicle right around the time that I was moving out of the home, and it was right around the 4th of July holiday weekend, and they said if there was any way I could make it any sooner, they could get it where I wanted it to be. Otherwise, it was likely not going to happen. So that dialogue is really solidified it for me. The drivers were great and they arrived about an hour early for the pickup, which is always appreciated. They encouraged me to videotape as they were loading, to take as many photos, and to be there during the loading process right up to the point where the door closed. There were two drivers in the car and they were alternating. They muscled it down and yet again, they were ahead of schedule by about 40 minutes on the delivery. On a cross country drive, you can`t ask for more. They delivered it right to the front gate with 100% no issues. I wasn`t here when it was delivered but my father received the vehicle and he said they told him that he could witness the whole extraction of the vehicle, just to make sure that there were no hidden mishaps. So, it was pretty seamless. Ironically, because of the change in plans that they suggested, the price came in cheaper than I originally anticipated, because scheduling it a little bit earlier in that month saved me $350 over the original bids that I`ve been getting from the other groups. So that was great. The pricing was right where we wanted it to be. I used to buy vehicles from out of state and I was always at the mercy of whoever shipped the vehicle to pick the carrier. This time, knowing what I know about them and the carriers that they select, I want to use Sherpa again.”
“Writing a review because I relied heavily on these while deciding which broker company to go with to find someone to transport my car from Utah to Michigan. Some background information…I am a gal in my early 20`s that has NO IDEA how these things work. So if you are in the same position as me, this review is for you haha. I am going to shift to the company Sherpa found for me now to transport my car. The company was Union Five, and they were also amazing. My car arrived in one piece which I am very happy about. On the expected day of drop off (2 days after picking it up and a cross country drive which is impressive), their truck broke down. They then expected the car to be delivered two days later. This was no problem as it was very much still in the expected delivery date range. Both the company and Sherpa notified me of this situation. However Union Five managed to get it onto another truck and it was delivered that night. One thing I learned from this process is that you need to be flexible. I received a phone call 15 minutes prior to pick up and 45 minutes prior to drop off so be ready at all times within the date range for pick up and delivery. Also, if the truck is too big to pick up/drop off your car on your street, expect to meet somewhere nearby. Overall, I had an amazing experience with both Sherpa and Union Five. It was important to me to not be scammed and for my car to make it in one piece. I communicated this with both companies and fortunately I received the same communication and respect back.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Troy, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Michigan. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
