What our Royal Oak customers say about Sherpa:
“Writing a review because I relied heavily on these while deciding which broker company to go with to find someone to transport my car from Utah to Michigan. Some background information…I am a gal in my early 20’s that has NO IDEA how these things work. So if you are in the same position as me, this review is for you haha.”
“I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article.”
“My friend moved to Florida, and he wanted his car, so I googled places to transport cars from Michigan to Florida. A bunch of companies came up, then I got a text from Sherpa. I called some other places, and some guy guaranteed they would do it for $600. I was gonna go with him and I kept waiting away, then he kept saying, “No. We can’t do it.””

Factors that affect Royal Oak Car Shipping Prices
Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Royal Oak car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is typically more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways like I-75 or I-696. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your car transport price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during the auto transport process.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can help you secure better car shipping rates. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more competitive pricing options.
- Opt for terminal-to-terminal: While Sherpa doesn’t offer this service, it’s worth noting that terminal-to-terminal shipping can sometimes be more cost-effective than door-to-door service.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport rates may vary based on season. Shipping your car to or from Royal Oak during off-peak times could result in lower prices.

Royal Oak Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When planning your car shipping to Royal Oak, MI, it’s essential to understand local regulations and prepare for your move. Royal Oak, a charming suburb of Detroit, has specific requirements for vehicle owners. First, Michigan doesn’t use traditional toll readers, so you won’t need to remove one before shipping your car. However, the state does require all vehicles to undergo an annual safety inspection. When registering your vehicle in Michigan, you’ll need proof of insurance, your out-of-state title, and a completed application form. You can complete this process at any Secretary of State office in Royal Oak.
For parking in Royal Oak, residents can apply for overnight street parking permits through the city’s website. This is especially useful if you’re moving to an area with limited off-street parking. As for auto transport considerations, be aware that Royal Oak experiences harsh winters. If you’re shipping a car during colder months, prepare it for potential snow and ice exposure.
When settling into Royal Oak, you’ll need to set up utilities. DTE Energy provides electricity, while the City of Royal Oak manages water services. For internet, popular providers include Comcast and AT&T. Don’t forget to register to vote at your new address and explore the Royal Oak Public Library for free library cards. Royal Oak, Michigan Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Royal Oak?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Royal Oak. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Royal Oak?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Royal Oak?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Royal Oak?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.
Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Reviews from our Michigan Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Michigan customers:
“I was moving from Michigan to Florida and I reached out to Sherpa to transport my car. I talked to other companies and a lot of them were being overly otimistic and over promising. But when I spoke to Sherpa, they told me about the deal, how it works, what they could guarantee, and what they couldn`t promise me. They laid out the most realistic picture of what could be expected and based on their feedback, I changed my plan completely. I was going to ship the vehicle right around the time that I was moving out of the home, and it was right around the 4th of July holiday weekend, and they said if there was any way I could make it any sooner, they could get it where I wanted it to be. Otherwise, it was likely not going to happen. So that dialogue is really solidified it for me. The drivers were great and they arrived about an hour early for the pickup, which is always appreciated. They encouraged me to videotape as they were loading, to take as many photos, and to be there during the loading process right up to the point where the door closed. There were two drivers in the car and they were alternating. They muscled it down and yet again, they were ahead of schedule by about 40 minutes on the delivery. On a cross country drive, you can`t ask for more. They delivered it right to the front gate with 100% no issues. I wasn`t here when it was delivered but my father received the vehicle and he said they told him that he could witness the whole extraction of the vehicle, just to make sure that there were no hidden mishaps. So, it was pretty seamless. Ironically, because of the change in plans that they suggested, the price came in cheaper than I originally anticipated, because scheduling it a little bit earlier in that month saved me $350 over the original bids that I`ve been getting from the other groups. So that was great. The pricing was right where we wanted it to be. I used to buy vehicles from out of state and I was always at the mercy of whoever shipped the vehicle to pick the carrier. This time, knowing what I know about them and the carriers that they select, I want to use Sherpa again.”
“I saw really great reviews for Sherpa and there was nothing that stood out to me that made me want to deter from them. I had a good feeling just from reading the reviews and the company history. They were the better option. I filled out a form online and within a few hours, I received an email stating that they could help me further make my decision on everything else. It was a good experience and the salespeople were not pushy. The customer support helped me. I was able to get the shipment place and everything during that call, so everything was handled. Sherpa offered multiple options for the transport and I chose the uncovered one. I was quoted a higher price for the service. I spoke to a representative and they noticed that the year of my car was wrong so they changed that and I got a lower price. That was really good. I really like the price lock too. I wasn`t able to pay over the phone and I was able to hold that amount for a few days until I was able to pay for that shipment. That was really helpful. I really liked that I was able to keep the new quoted amount. The car was transported from Florida to Michigan and the delivery was very fast. The car came within two or three days. And the delivery service was very friendly. They kept me updated throughout the entire time. When the car got here, they gave me a rundown. It was my first time seeing this car as I purchased it. They made sure I took pictures if there were any issues. I liked the process through and through. I would tell others to check out the Sherpa website, fill out the forms and appropriate things for the vehicle that they need. I have recommended them to my friends and I would definitely tell them to check it out.”
“Sherpa came out with different company reviews saying that they were good. They delivered on time unlike a lot of companies where the vehicles weren`t getting delivered on time. They weren`t answering the phone and they weren`t communicating with the people. They were inflating the price and that was what I was worried about. I was on a budget. Sherpa promised me that the price would not go over what they told me. If it did, they would take $350 of their own money and put it on it. Everything that they told me, they did. They were nice and genuine people. The transport for my 2010 Cadillac was very far, from Arizona to Michigan. I was very scared but Sherpa did very well. They accomplished everything from A to Z and they did it in that order. They took their time and I felt good when I talked to the rep. I didn`t care if it took an extra day or two. The driver actually delivered before they said they would. I’m proud that they did what they did and my car got here. I`m gonna end up using Sherpa again because I have to go back next month.”
“I used to live in Arizona where my grandfather was and we owned a 1930 Model A. I moved to Michigan and when my grandfather passed away last year, it was time to bring the car home. I used Sherpa and the experience went fairly well. The driver was very helpful to my sister in getting it loaded and was helpful too in getting it unloaded. The car was an antique vehicle and it had a dead battery, but we made it work. The driver had to take a car off the trailer to get to my car and he took his shoes off and left them in the trailer to drive this other car. He was very meticulous. The only hiccup that I had was when the driver reached out to me to give me the total of what I needed to pay him when he came. I already knew how much I had to pay and I had a cashier`s check because that was what I was comfortable with. He told me I had to have cash and I told him that my contract said I can pay with a cashier`s check. He took it and it wasn’t a problem.”
“Smoothest transaction I have ever had. Being my first transport, I didn’t know what to expect. Sherpa brokers out their deliveries and only uses the most reputable drivers with highest ins policies. I compared prices with two other companies and they were by far the most reasonable. From beginning to end, the process was flawless. Thank you to Doug for getting my son’s vehicle from Arizona to Michigan. I think it only took 3 days. Will definitely use them again. So pleased with their professionalism and customer service.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Royal Oak, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Michigan. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
