What our Kalamazoo customers say about Sherpa:
“We got our car earlier than promised. Well taken care. Kept us informed all way from picking up the car to delivery. Accommodated our times on both end. Very happy. Recommended to our friend who is moving.”
“Writing a review because I relied heavily on these while deciding which broker company to go with to find someone to transport my car from Utah to Michigan. Some background information…I am a gal in my early 20`s that has NO IDEA how these things work. So if you are in the same position as me, this review is for you haha. I first decided to go through with another company who ended up not being authorized which made me extremely nervous while looking for a new company. I found Sherpa on Forbes and after reading the reviews and seeing that if the car doesn`t get picked up by a driver towards the end of the 5 day period you agree on, they contribute their own money, I decided to go through with Sherpa.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Kalamazoo Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The farther your vehicle needs to travel, the more it will cost to ship. Kalamazoo’s central location in Michigan, with easy access to I-94 and US-131, can help keep costs down for regional transport.
- Vehicle Type: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks cost more to ship than compact cars due to their size and weight. Consider this when planning your Kalamazoo car shipping budget.
- Transport Method: Open carriers are the most common and affordable option for car shipping to or from Kalamazoo. Enclosed transport offers extra protection but costs about 50% more and may take longer.
- Seasonal Factors: Kalamazoo experiences harsh winters, which can affect car shipping prices. Summer months often see higher demand and prices due to more people moving.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like downtown Kalamazoo are typically cheaper for car shipping than rural locations. Consider meeting your carrier at a more accessible spot to potentially save money.
- Flexibility: Being flexible with your pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for auto transport to or from Kalamazoo.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship than inoperable ones. Ensure your car is in running condition to avoid additional fees.
Understanding these factors can help you estimate and potentially reduce your car shipping costs to or from Kalamazoo. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Kalamazoo car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to secure the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport provides more flexibility for negotiating prices.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major highways like I-94 or US-131. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
- Be flexible: Offer a range of pickup and delivery dates. The more flexible you are, the better options you’ll have for finding cost-effective auto transport to or from Kalamazoo, MI.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer. Shipping your car during off-peak times can result in better rates for Kalamazoo car shipping services.

Kalamazoo, Michigan Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Kalamazoo?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Kalamazoo. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Kalamazoo?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Kalamazoo?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Kalamazoo?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Kalamazoo
When planning car shipping to or from Kalamazoo, MI, it’s crucial to consider the city’s seasonal weather patterns. Kalamazoo experiences distinct seasons, each with unique challenges for auto transport.
In winter, Kalamazoo car shipping requires extra precautions. The city averages 67 inches of snow annually, which can impact car transport services. When scheduling winter auto transport in Kalamazoo, keep these tips in mind:
- Remove snow tires or chains before shipping, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions.
- Remove or properly insulate items that may freeze and expand during transit.
Summer in Kalamazoo is generally mild, but temperatures can occasionally spike. When shipping a car during warmer months:
- Place a sunshade in your vehicle to protect the interior.
- Remove heat-sensitive items that might melt or warp.
Kalamazoo’s status as a college town also affects car shipping services. Western Michigan University’s academic calendar influences peak times for auto transport. To avoid higher rates and longer wait times:
- Plan your car transport a few weeks before or after the start and end of semesters.
- Book your car shipping well in advance during these busy periods.
By considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smoother, more cost-effective experience when using car shipping services in Kalamazoo, MI. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on transporting your vehicle to or from this vibrant Michigan city.
Car Shipping for College Students in Kalamazoo, Michigan
For students considering car shipping to Kalamazoo for college, it’s crucial to understand parking regulations at local universities. Western Michigan University requires students to register their vehicles and purchase parking permits. On-campus residents have designated lots, while commuters can use various parking areas. During winter breaks, students can store their cars in specific long-term parking zones. Kalamazoo College has limited on-campus parking, so first-year students are discouraged from bringing cars. Upper-class students can apply for parking permits, but spaces are limited. Both schools recommend checking with off-campus housing providers about parking availability. Given Kalamazoo’s snowy winters, students should consider winter tires for safe driving. It’s also wise to verify that your car insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to your new location. By planning ahead and understanding these factors, you can ensure a smooth transition when shipping your car to Kalamazoo for your college experience.
Reviews from our Michigan Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Michigan customers:
“Only one review?? Wow, that sucks because I would’ve sworn this company was one of the most credible. I was making a big move from Michigan to California fresh out of college. Young, scared, and confused, I often found myself overwhelmed with the many vehicle transport options available. Frantically, I googled “best auto transport companies for cross-country moves” and stumbled upon Sherpa in a Forbes article. After retrieving a quote for nearly every company in the article, I instantly put Sherpa at the top of my list because of their promised flat-rate policy. If you have experience shipping a car, you know how great this is. Shortly after, I received a phone call from a very lovely worker who offered me a much appreciated rebate if I chose to go with them instead of other companies I was considering at the time. He also explained the entire process very thoroughly which was very helpful for my young, confused mind. I instantly felt like I would be in good hands leaving my precious baby in the hands of a stranger for 5 days to a week, and this feeling held true throughout the entire process. The company they partnered with (Spark Prime Logistics, in my case) handled my car with the upmost care and she actually arrived in better condition than when I left her (broken trunk hatch issue…maybe the desert heat helped? idk, but I’m not complaining lol). My carrier wouldn’t even pull into a residential street to avoid scratching anyone’s vehicle. Instant approval. I trust that Sherpa would only partner the best of the best to get the job done. All in all, I am absolutely pleased with Sherpa and would confidently say that I’d instantly go to them if I ever again decide to make another crazy man’s move across states. No more searching. Sherpa for the win!”
“I saw really great reviews for Sherpa and there was nothing that stood out to me that made me want to deter from them. I had a good feeling just from reading the reviews and the company history. They were the better option. I filled out a form online and within a few hours, I received an email stating that they could help me further make my decision on everything else. It was a good experience and the salespeople were not pushy. The customer support helped me. I was able to get the shipment place and everything during that call, so everything was handled. Sherpa offered multiple options for the transport and I chose the uncovered one. I was quoted a higher price for the service. I spoke to a representative and they noticed that the year of my car was wrong so they changed that and I got a lower price. That was really good. I really like the price lock too. I wasn’t able to pay over the phone and I was able to hold that amount for a few days until I was able to pay for that shipment. That was really helpful. I really liked that I was able to keep the new quoted amount. The car was transported from Florida to Michigan and the delivery was very fast. The car came within two or three days. And the delivery service was very friendly. They kept me updated throughout the entire time. When the car got here, they gave me a rundown. It was my first time seeing this car as I purchased it. They made sure I took pictures if there were any issues. I liked the process through and through. I would tell others to check out the Sherpa website, fill out the forms and appropriate things for the vehicle that they need. I have recommended them to my friends and I would definitely tell them to check it out.”
“There were plenty of nerves when we decided to buy an expensive convertible half way across the country online, and then had to decide how to get it! We checked air fare, driving ourselves cost, and every option, and decided to have it shipped. The dealership we bought the car from didn’t help with this end of it–after you buy it–you get to figure out the rest! We Googled “car carriers in ***********” and within 2 minutes we were bombarded with every car carrier company in the country trying to get our business! Some of them just wouldn’t leave us alone, and were actually rude and pushy, so we didn’t choose them, of course. We figured that if they were going to be that pushy, we didn’t trust them. One dude called us repeatedly and promised us the world, but we had to react fast as his carrier was filling up. We ultimately just went to star ratings and reviews and made a couple of phone calls to Sherpa to just talk to someone. They were very helpful, answered all our questions, assured us that the process was safe and legit, and we felt good about choosing them. Their price wasn’t the cheapest, but it also wasn’t the most expensive. $885 to have it shipped from ********* to West Michigan. Within a week, we heard from them that our car would be coming on Saturday, and as promised, it did. The driver was very nice, (he had a hard time with the *** getting him here, but we just went and found him a couple streets over and had him follow us back!) Car was what we had bought, and no surprise fees or red tape. Cut and dry, got our car, paid the man, and are loving our new car! Use Sherpa–you won’t be disappointed!”
“I was moving from Michigan to Florida and I reached out to Sherpa to transport my car. I talked to other companies and a lot of them were being overly otimistic and over promising. But when I spoke to Sherpa, they told me about the deal, how it works, what they could guarantee, and what they couldn’t promise me. They laid out the most realistic picture of what could be expected and based on their feedback, I changed my plan completely. I was going to ship the vehicle right around the time that I was moving out of the home, and it was right around the 4th of July holiday weekend, and they said if there was any way I could make it any sooner, they could get it where I wanted it to be. Otherwise, it was likely not going to happen. So that dialogue is really solidified it for me. The drivers were great and they arrived about an hour early for the pickup, which is always appreciated. They encouraged me to videotape as they were loading, to take as many photos, and to be there during the loading process right up to the point where the door closed. There were two drivers in the car and they were alternating. They muscled it down and yet again, they were ahead of schedule by about 40 minutes on the delivery. On a cross country drive, you can’t ask for more. They delivered it right to the front gate with 100% no issues. I wasn’t here when it was delivered but my father received the vehicle and he said they told him that he could witness the whole extraction of the vehicle, just to make sure that there were no hidden mishaps. So, it was pretty seamless. Ironically, because of the change in plans that they suggested, the price came in cheaper than I originally anticipated, because scheduling it a little bit earlier in that month saved me $350 over the original bids that I’ve been getting from the other groups. So that was great. The pricing was right where we wanted it to be. I used to buy vehicles from out of state and I was always at the mercy of whoever shipped the vehicle to pick the carrier. This time, knowing what I know about them and the carriers that they select, I want to use Sherpa again.”
“I had to transport my S-class Mercedes from California to Michigan before medical school started. This company was very consistent with their policies, communication and quality of service. Any time I had any concerns or questions, Sherpa Customer Service replied to me immediately and worked with me to make sure my transport went smoothly. They delivered my car in perfect condition within 5 days of pickup. Of course I needed a car wash after since it was an open delivery but my car was as I have it to them. I could not be more satisfied with their service in transporting my car around 3,000 miles away.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Kalamazoo, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Michigan. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
