What our New Orleans customers say about Sherpa:
“I was really dreading the process of shipping my car across the country. I had heard the horror stories and was worried about what to expect. I called maybe 4-5 companies and looked at reviews on numerous sites. I heard about Sherpa through a website run by one of the Car Guys on NPR and talked with one of their representatives on the phone for about 30 minutes. She answered ALL my questions, and I decided to go with them. They found me a shipper within days, the shipper had excellent communication, picked up the car from my mother`s house and had it to me _ on the other side of the country _ in a week. The shipper called me to let me know when it was arriving. I suggested a place to deliver the car since my street was too narrow and the driver actually suggested a place that was better. Car was delivered without a scratch and on time. I would definitely go with them again without a second thought.”
“Sherpa`s quote was a little higher than other companies, but I was sold on their commitment to spend up to $300 of its own money to ensure the rate remained the same. They did, in fact, have to do this in order to secure a driver. I`m glad that wasn`t something my wife or I had to resolve with the driver directly. Car was delivered a day earlier than expected and in the same condition it was picked up in.”
“My vehicle was transported from Louisiana to Virginia promptly and without a hitch. Great service.”

Factors that affect New Orleans Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from New Orleans. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but the per-mile rate often decreases for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to New Orleans. Enclosed trailers, while offering more protection, are typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: New Orleans’ urban setting makes it easier and more affordable for car shipping services. However, if you’re shipping to or from more remote areas in Louisiana, costs may increase.
- Seasonal Factors: New Orleans’ subtropical climate can affect car shipping prices. Hurricane season (June to November) may impact schedules and rates. Additionally, shipping costs tend to rise during peak moving seasons, typically in summer and early January.
- Vehicle Specifications: The size, weight, and condition of your vehicle influence shipping costs. Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, generally cost more to transport than standard cars.
- Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates for car shipping to or from New Orleans. Rush or guaranteed delivery services typically come at a premium.
- Route Popularity: New Orleans’ location along major interstates like I-10 and I-55 can positively impact shipping costs, as these are popular routes for auto transport carriers.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from New Orleans. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your New Orleans car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.

- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-10 or I-55. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall car shipping price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offer a range of pickup and delivery dates when arranging your New Orleans auto transport. This flexibility can help you secure better rates and options for your car shipping needs.

When shipping your car to or from New Orleans, LA, it’s essential to be aware of local regulations and prepare for your move. New Orleans car shipping can be a breeze with the right information. First, consider removing your toll tag if you have one, as Louisiana uses the GeauxPass system for tolls. This prevents unexpected charges during auto transport.
Louisiana requires vehicle inspections annually, so if you’re moving to New Orleans, you’ll need to get your car inspected within 30 days of registering it. The vehicle registration process in Louisiana involves providing proof of insurance, a valid driver’s license, and your vehicle title. Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from New Orleans?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. What types of vehicles can you transport?

Reviews from our Louisiana Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Louisiana customers:
“Sherpa had good ratings and their reps were wonderful. I had a lot of bumps in the road but they worked with me so it was great. I had to delay a few times then I had an issue with the city busting up the sidewalk in front of my driveway. They were very flexible and they found a very good driver for me. He texted me almost everyday along the route to tell me when he was gonna be there. But he couldn’t bring his big truck into my neighborhood because there are a lot of oak trees and the branches reach over the street. The truck would not have fit. But we found a spot and I met him there. He was awesome. He picked my car up on a Monday night and I got it on a Saturday. It took about five days which was awesome. It was a long way from San Francisco to the New Orleans area. I also expected my car to be really dirty, which was what Sherpa said. A lot of people see their cars as sometimes dirty because they hit rain but my car was fine.”
“Based on my previous experience with a different company, Sherpa was top-notch. Communication was easy to get in touch with people whenever I had a question. They kept me up to date on status of locating the driver. I had to change the pickup date twice and they were very accommodating with that. Overall, communication was super high, which is as crucial when you’re dealing with something like this. The only drawback is that they utilize a bunch of different drivers with different backgrounds. My driver was Russian and his English barely got him by. So the communication on that end might have been lacking slightly, but he still came through. There was a little miscommunication on the final destination. He was off by a few miles and that was because of the language barrier. But all in all, the vehicle got there clean and on time. I would recommend Sherpa to all my car guys.”
“The driver did a good job. I wasn’t there, so I have to applaud him for handling it. I had my girl go outside and point him in the direction and he took care of unloading it. It was easy to work with Sherpa and the quote that they gave me was exactly what it came out to be. The only thing that caught me off guard was they told that I would be getting a 12 to 24-hour phone call from the driver. The driver called me the morning of, saying that he was out in front of my house. I had no idea that he was going to be there. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone to work first thing in the morning. I wouldn’t have had my girl jump out of bed 7:00 in the morning to get the car. If I knew, I would have just been up for work, and then, I would have stayed home an extra half an hour and it would have worked out great.”
“My daughter, who is in the Navy, was transferred to Jacksonville from San Diego. As we were driving across the country we ran into car trouble in Louisiana. Unfortunately, the dealer had to keep the car for several days and we were stuck. We set up transport of her vehicle once it was repaired, nearly a week later while we continued in a rented car. It was very stressful but working with Sherpa really made a difficult situation much easier. We even had to move our pick up date a couple of times and they worked with us. A hurricane (or two) later, the car was delivered quick, safe and sound. I would highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport.”
“We shipped a car from Boston to LA. Sherpa’s quote was firm and offered a guarantee for the price. Initially, I signed up with another company because they quoted a much lower price. But when they called when they found a driver, the prices were 60% higher, and more than what Sherpa had quoted initially. I signed up with Sherpa. Their communication was superb. They found a driver in a day, and they held their price. The driver showed up on time, and delivered the car in LA without any hassle. Highly recommend Sherpa.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in New Orleans, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Louisiana. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
