What our Evansville customers say about Sherpa:
“Sherpa did a great job. They sent videos of the car as did I before it left my home. They came right to my house, picked up the car in my neighborhood, and shipped it all the way to Oregon from Indiana. Everything was on time and the car was in great shape. My 23-year old son was very impressed with the whole process and he took care of it there on that end.”
“We ordered pick-up between 1 DEC and 7 DEC; and put down our deposit via our credit card. At one point we were asked to confirm via email & message if we were still interested. On NOV 30th we were notified of a carrier would arrive on DEC 1 or 2; and we were billed the full $250 by Sherpa. The carrier called early on Dec 1st; picked up our RAV-4 at 11:30 AM our time; & delivered it that same evening at 11:30 PM to our daughter in Evansville.”
“The transport was from New Jersey to Bloomington, Indiana and took exactly the days that I needed. It even came a day earlier than I expected which worked out fine. The driver came the day I wanted and delivered it exactly the day I wanted. I needed it Friday and the delivery on Tuesday. He came Thursday afternoon and delivered it Tuesday morning for me.”

Factors that affect Evansville Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Evansville, IN. Longer distances typically mean higher prices, as more fuel and time are required for transport.
- Vehicle Type: The size and weight of your car affect shipping costs. Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks will generally cost more to ship than compact cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Transport Method: Open transport is the most common and cost-effective option for shipping cars to or from Evansville. Enclosed transport, while offering more protection, is typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Season: Car shipping prices can fluctuate based on the time of year. Summer months and January tend to see higher rates due to increased demand. Evansville’s mild climate means less seasonal variation compared to some other regions.
- Route: Evansville’s location near major highways like I-69 and US-41 can help keep costs down. However, shipping to or from more remote areas off these main routes may increase prices.
- Timing: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower costs. Rush or guaranteed delivery services will typically increase the price of your car shipment.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading and unloading, which increases the cost.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Evansville, IN. For a more detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Evansville car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-69 or US-41. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates liability concerns for the auto transport company.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better options and potential savings on your Evansville car shipping. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective transport times.
- Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport to and from Evansville can be influenced by seasonal factors. Summer months often see higher demand, so planning your shipment during off-peak seasons might result in more competitive rates.

Evansville Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When shipping your car to or from Evansville, IN, it’s essential to be aware of local regulations and prepare for your move. Indiana doesn’t require a front license plate, so you’ll only need to display one on the rear of your vehicle. The state uses E-ZPass for electronic tolling, but Evansville itself doesn’t have toll roads. However, if you’re traveling through other parts of Indiana, you may want to remove your transponder to avoid unexpected charges.
Indiana requires vehicle inspections only for salvage titles. For regular registrations, you’ll need to visit the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) within 60 days of moving to Indiana. Bring your out-of-state title, proof of insurance, and a completed Application for Certificate of Title. Evansville doesn’t have city-specific parking passes, but be mindful of street parking rules in residential areas.
When settling in Evansville, you’ll need to set up utilities. Vectren provides electricity and gas, while the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility handles water services. For internet, popular providers include AT&T, Spectrum, and WOW! Don’t forget to update your voter registration and enroll your children in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.
Evansville’s climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. When shipping your car, consider the season. In winter, prepare for occasional snow and ice. The city is served by major highways like I-69 and US-41, making car transport to and from Evansville convenient.
If you’re moving away from Evansville, remember to cancel local memberships, forward your mail, and return your library books to the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library. Whether you’re coming or going, choosing a reliable car shipping company ensures your vehicle arrives safely at its destination.
Evansville, Indiana Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Evansville?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Evansville. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Evansville?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Evansville?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Evansville?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Evansville
When planning car shipping to or from Evansville, IN, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather patterns that can impact your auto transport experience. Evansville experiences all four seasons, each with unique challenges for car shipping services.
In winter, Evansville can see significant snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re scheduling car transport during this time:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions.
- Remove any items from your car that could freeze and potentially damage the vehicle.
During summer, Evansville experiences hot and humid weather. When shipping a car in these conditions:
- Place a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior from excessive heat.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items that could melt or warp in high temperatures.
Beyond weather considerations, timing is crucial when scheduling Evansville car shipping. As a college town, home to the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana, peak auto transport times coincide with the academic calendar. To avoid delays and potentially higher costs:
- Plan your car transport a few weeks before or after the start and end of semesters.
- Be aware of major events like move-in days or graduation ceremonies that may impact car shipping availability.
By considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smoother, more efficient car shipping experience to or from Evansville, IN. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on scheduling and preparing your vehicle for transport.
Car Shipping for College Students in Evansville, Indiana
When considering car shipping to Evansville, Indiana for college, it’s crucial to understand parking regulations at local universities. The University of Southern Indiana (USI) requires students to register their vehicles and purchase parking permits. On-campus residents have designated lots, while commuters can use general parking areas. During winter break, students can leave their cars on campus, but it’s advisable to inform campus security. University of Evansville (UE) also mandates parking permits, with different options for residents and commuters. Both universities offer limited visitor parking. Remember to check if your auto transport insurance and roadside assistance coverage extend to Evansville. While heavy snowfall is rare, winter tires aren’t typically necessary. However, it’s wise to prepare for occasional icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car to Evansville for college, plan ahead and familiarize yourself with campus parking policies to ensure a smooth transition.
Reviews from our Indiana Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Indiana customers:
“I recently shipped my SUV from Indianapolis, IN to Henderson, NV with Sherpa Auto Transport and I was pleased with the service. My vehicle was in mint condition upon arrival and the transport was faster than expected. I would highly recommend Sherpa Transport and if I get too lazy to drive back to Indy I will call them again!”
“When I called, I received a call back within a short period of time and when I emailed, I got a response via email quickly. So, the reps were responsive. The pickup was in Valparaiso, Indiana and it was to be delivered to Palm Desert, California. I was given a three-day pickup time but they said that the driver would call me about when it would actually be picked up. And I was given a window of five to seven days when it would be delivered. The drivers showed up on time. My house is on a small street and you have to make several very sharp turns in order to get there. The drivers were unable to get the truck to my house so they parked it a couple of blocks away and I just drove the car down there to them. They were careful with the car. They drove off and I was not concerned about the car when they took it away. Based upon when they picked up the car, it could have been delivered to California before I got there myself to receive it. So, I asked the driver to deliver it to a friend of mine who lived not too far away, and he agreed to do that. Sherpa is reliable and competitive on price with other companies.”
“Sherpa was the best. They were credible. They stood out from the others. They respond right away. They gave me a good price and did not give me any problems. We had them ship our Chrysler Crossfire sports car. I had one problem when we were trying to define the pickup, who’s picking it up and when and when is this going to happen. The first person I interacted with was not very sympathetic to my situation. But after that, it was much better. It’s initially not so good, but it straightened right up. Sherpa’s rate was affordable and they stuck to it. I’m very happy with the quote. I was afraid I was gonna have to pay a lot of money to ship my car and it was affordable. It was a great value. They told me when the delivery was going to happen. Then the person called, and he showed up and unloaded the car perfectly. It was very simple. Overall, Sherpa is very user-friendly. It was efficient and I got exactly what I wanted. Their reps were very professional and I was able to communicate with them when I needed to.”
“I bought a truck in Indiana and I needed to bring it to Texas. Sherpa’s reps were really helpful and their price was very much lower than the ones that we got. The communication was pretty good and the guy that was driving the trailer texted me when he picked up my vehicle. He couldn’t bring my truck to my house because it’s a residential area. So, he met me at an AutoZone. Other than that, the delivery was very on time and my truck arrived in an amazing condition because he came in a little enclosed trailer.”
“When I went on to a lot of different lists or articles that were written, the name Sherpa kept coming up as they were on a list of the most reliable and the most professional. That was a name that repeatedly came up in my search as a credible company. Then when I went in and read the customer reviews, people seemed happy with them. Their customer service was great. The guy I first spoke to gave me a lot of details. He was very professional. I told him that my son’s car was being worked on and I couldn’t really commit at that point because I didn’t know when the car would be ready. It was maybe on Thursday, and I said they’d definitely have it over the weekend. He said, “How about I follow up with you on Monday at four o’clock?” Monday, at four o’clock, the phone rang. He followed up with me. Again, I said the car was not ready yet. He said, “How about I call you tomorrow?” They kept calling but they weren’t calling in an annoying, “We want your business.” If they said four o’clock, they called at four o’clock. Their people were very professional. I never felt pressured. I always got information about, “Your car, either do you want it inside or do you want it outside? And this is what the costs are.” They did say the costs were variable day by day, so the price that he quoted me originally was more than the price I ended up paying. I had nothing but a good experience with Sherpa. I spoke to them the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, thinking that it might take a while to get my car because of the holiday weekend, and the car showed up on Saturday. My son was driving home from college and he had car trouble and we ended up flying him home because Thanksgiving was coming and the car was gonna take 10 days to fix by the time they got the part. My son’s car was packed with all his stuff he was bringing home from college, and when the car got here, all his stuff was in there. It showed up exactly when they said it was. The driver texted me Saturday morning and he said, “I’d like to introduce myself, This is my name. I will be at your home with your car 12:00.” He was there a 12:00. Sherpa even says if you send them a receipt that you got your car washed, they will reimburse you for the cost of the carwash, which we didn’t end up doing just for our own reasons.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Evansville, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Indiana. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
