What our Elkhart customers say about Sherpa:
“The fact that Sherpa paid to be with ConsumerAffairs was part of the selling for me. Sherpa did a great job. They sent videos of the car as did I before it left my home. They came right to my house, picked up the car in my neighborhood, and shipped it all the way to Oregon from Indiana. Everything was on time and the car was in great shape.”
“The quote she gave was also a competitive from the different brokers I spoke with, and it was 100% accurate. Moreover, the actual contractor they picked was perfect. He was on time and courteous. He was very thorough from the time he picked the vehicle up. He walked around with me. He showed me and told me what to expect. He was very professional.”
“Sherpa gave me the best option for what I needed and was very upfront with me. I told them what my concerns were and they held to that. They told me everything that I should do and that I should pay by cash or certified check. I had to give them $250 and pay the rest to the driver when he got there. When I got ready to give the driver the money, he called his boss and gave her to me.”

Note: These figures reflect the past 12 months of Sherpa Auto Transport’s vehicle shipments to or from Elkhart, IN. When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Elkhart Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Elkhart, IN. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than smaller cars due to the space they occupy and fuel consumption.
- Transport Type: Open transport is the most common and affordable option for car shipping to Elkhart. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers additional protection from weather and road debris, which can be beneficial during Indiana’s snowy winters.
- Season: Auto transport prices to Elkhart may fluctuate seasonally. Summer months and January tend to see higher demand and prices, while spring and fall might offer more competitive rates.
- Route Popularity: Elkhart’s proximity to major highways like I-80/90 and US-20 can influence shipping costs. More frequented routes often have lower prices due to higher carrier availability.
- Delivery Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates can lead to lower costs. Expedited shipping to Elkhart will increase the price but may be necessary during time-sensitive moves.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the overall shipping cost to Elkhart.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Elkhart, IN. When shipping your car to or from Elkhart, IN, it’s crucial to be aware of local regulations and prepare for your move. Elkhart car shipping can be a smooth process with the right information. First, consider removing your E-ZPass or I-PASS toll transponder to avoid unnecessary charges during auto transport. Indiana uses these systems on some highways, including nearby I-80/I-90.

Elkhart, Indiana Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Elkhart?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Elkhart. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Elkhart?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Elkhart?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Elkhart?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.
Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Elkhart
When scheduling car shipping to or from Elkhart, IN, it’s crucial to consider the region’s seasonal weather patterns. Elkhart experiences distinct seasons, each with unique challenges for auto transport.
In winter, Elkhart sees significant snowfall and icy conditions. When planning your car transport during this season:
- Remove snow tires or chains before shipping, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with these.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, avoiding steep inclines that may be hazardous for transport trucks.
- Remove or properly insulate items in your vehicle that could freeze and potentially damage your car.
During summer, Elkhart can experience hot temperatures. For car shipping services in warmer months:
- Consider placing a sunshade under your windshield to protect your car’s interior.
- Remove heat-sensitive items from your vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
Beyond weather considerations, Elkhart car shipping can be affected by local events and patterns:
- As home to several colleges, Elkhart sees increased demand for auto transport at the beginning and end of academic terms. Consider scheduling your car transport a few weeks before or after these peak times for potentially better rates and availability.
- Elkhart’s strong RV industry can lead to busy shipping periods during RV show seasons. Be aware of these events when planning to ship a car to or from Elkhart, IN.
By considering these factors, you can ensure a smoother experience when using car shipping services in Elkhart. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on shipping a car to or from this unique Indiana city.
Reviews from our Indiana Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Indiana customers:
“When I called, I received a call back within a short period of time and when I emailed, I got a response via email quickly. So, the reps were responsive. The pickup was in Valparaiso, Indiana and it was to be delivered to Palm Desert, California. I was given a three-day pickup time but they said that the driver would call me about when it would actually be picked up. And I was given a window of five to seven days when it would be delivered. The drivers showed up on time. My house is on a small street and you have to make several very sharp turns in order to get there. The drivers were unable to get the truck to my house so they parked it a couple of blocks away and I just drove the car down there to them. They were careful with the car. They drove off and I was not concerned about the car when they took it away. Based upon when they picked up the car, it could have been delivered to California before I got there myself to receive it. So, I asked the driver to deliver it to a friend of mine who lived not too far away, and he agreed to do that. Sherpa is reliable and competitive on price with other companies.”
“When I went on to a lot of different lists or articles that were written, the name Sherpa kept coming up as they were on a list of the most reliable and the most professional. That was a name that repeatedly came up in my search as a credible company. Then when I went in and read the customer reviews, people seemed happy with them. Their customer service was great. The guy I first spoke to gave me a lot of details. He was very professional. I told him that my son’s car was being worked on and I couldn’t really commit at that point because I didn’t know when the car would be ready. It was maybe on Thursday, and I said they’d definitely have it over the weekend. He said, “How about I follow up with you on Monday at four o’clock?” Monday, at four o’clock, the phone rang. He followed up with me. Again, I said the car was not ready yet. He said, “How about I call you tomorrow?” They kept calling but they weren’t calling in an annoying, “We want your business.” If they said four o’clock, they called at four o’clock. Their people were very professional. I never felt pressured. I always got information about, “Your car, either do you want it inside or do you want it outside? And this is what the costs are.” They did say the costs were variable day by day, so the price that he quoted me originally was more than the price I ended up paying. I had nothing but a good experience with Sherpa. I spoke to them the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, thinking that it might take a while to get my car because of the holiday weekend, and the car showed up on Saturday. My son was driving home from college and he had car trouble and we ended up flying him home because Thanksgiving was coming and the car was gonna take 10 days to fix by the time they got the part. My son’s car was packed with all his stuff he was bringing home from college, and when the car got here, all his stuff was in there. It showed up exactly when they said it was. The driver texted me Saturday morning and he said, “I’d like to introduce myself, This is my name. I will be at your home with your car 12:00.” He was there a 12:00. Sherpa even says if you send them a receipt that you got your car washed, they will reimburse you for the cost of the carwash, which we didn’t end up doing just for our own reasons.”
“I bought a truck in Indiana and I needed to bring it to Texas. Sherpa’s reps were really helpful and their price was very much lower than the ones that we got. The communication was pretty good and the guy that was driving the trailer texted me when he picked up my vehicle. He couldn’t bring my truck to my house because it’s a residential area. So, he met me at an AutoZone. Other than that, the delivery was very on time and my truck arrived in an amazing condition because he came in a little enclosed trailer.”
“They were professional and they had a quick response. I was super impressed and I liked everybody whom I spoke to. The rep was concise and everything worked out well. The quote they gave was extremely reasonable especially with the timeframe in getting the vehicle shipped. The delivery was as smooth as you could ask for. We live in a gated community and it’s tough to get a big truck back here, so we just met off 75. I’ll probably use Sherpa again.”
“I needed to move a car from Indianapolis to Florida and looked at three different transport companies. I looked at the reviews and thought I would go with Sherpa. I had a very good interaction with Sherpa’s people. And when the vehicle arrived, there was no damage. Everything was great.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Elkhart, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Indiana. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
