What our Carmel customers say about Sherpa:
“My experience with Sherpa was first class. You have a lot of choices in transporting your vehicle, but you would you be hard pressed in finding better communications and service than Sherpa. Their price guaranteed was icing on the cake for Carmel.”
“I liked that Sherpa stated that it would be a fixed price as opposed to something that could change. I spoke with the individual and got things set up and he explained the process. Most contact I had was with the driver that was going to pick up my automobile and that was great as well. The driver was a young guy and he was especially good and very diligent. The car arrived very safe to Carmel. So all good.”
“I was extremely hesitant with moving a car across country due to so many negative reviews out there for other companies.. I ultimately was between Sherpa, Montway and AmeriFreight, but Sherpa really sealed the deal and helped us with ease. It took our car only 4.5 days to get from Indianapolis to Seattle, which I was flabbergasted by due to the terrain and mileage!”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Carmel Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Carmel, IN and your destination significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer journeys.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Carmel. Enclosed trailers, while offering extra protection, are about 50% more expensive and typically have longer delivery times.
- Location Accessibility: Carmel’s proximity to major routes like I-465 and US-31 can help reduce costs. However, if you’re shipping to or from more remote areas, prices may increase.
- Seasonal Factors: Carmel’s weather can affect car shipping prices. Winter snow and ice may increase rates, while milder seasons might offer more competitive pricing.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to transport. If your car doesn’t run, expect higher costs due to the need for special equipment.
- Timing and Flexibility: Being flexible with your pickup and delivery dates can lead to better rates. Rush or guaranteed delivery services will increase the cost.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Carmel, IN. - Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and potential liability issues during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better options and potential savings. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective shipping times.
- Utilize Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise: While it’s tempting to shop around, remember that Sherpa’s upfront, realistic quotes come with a Price Lock Promise. This ensures you won’t pay more than the agreed-upon price, providing peace of mind for your Carmel auto transport needs.

Carmel, Indiana Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Carmel?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Carmel. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Carmel?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Carmel?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Carmel?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Carmel
When planning car shipping to or from Carmel, IN, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather patterns that can affect your auto transport experience. Carmel experiences all four seasons distinctly, which can impact your car shipping plans throughout the year.
During winter months (December to February), Carmel often sees snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re scheduling car transport during this time:
- Avoid using snow tire chains, as carriers can’t transport vehicles with them.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground to prevent slipping in icy conditions.
- Remove any items from your car that might freeze and potentially burst.
In summer (June to August), temperatures can soar. When shipping a car during these months:
- Place a sunshade under the windshield to protect the interior.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items that might melt.
Be aware of peak shipping times in Carmel. As home to Butler University, late August and early May see increased demand for car shipping services due to student moves. To avoid higher rates and longer wait times, consider scheduling your auto transport a few weeks before or after these periods.
Lastly, keep in mind that spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are generally ideal for car shipping in Carmel, IN. The mild weather during these seasons typically means fewer delays and smoother transport experiences. By considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a more efficient and cost-effective car transport process.
Reviews from our Indiana Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Indiana customers:
“The team at Sherpa was very helpful in explaining and walking through the process of shipping an automobile across the country, it being my first time in this process. Everything went smoothly. The car was delivered safely to Carmel and the transition was easy.”
“When I called, I received a call back within a short period of time and when I emailed, I got a response via email quickly. So, the reps were responsive. The pickup was in Valparaiso, Indiana and it was to be delivered to Palm Desert, California. I was given a three-day pickup time but they said that the driver would call me about when it would actually be picked up. And I was given a window of five to seven days when it would be delivered. The drivers showed up on time. My house is on a small street and you have to make several very sharp turns in order to get there. The drivers were unable to get the truck to my house so they parked it a couple of blocks away and I just drove the car down there to them. They were careful with the car. They drove off and I was not concerned about the car when they took it away. Based upon when they picked up the car, it could have been delivered to California before I got there myself to receive it. So, I asked the driver to deliver it to a friend of mine who lived not too far away, and he agreed to do that. Sherpa is reliable and competitive on price with other companies.”
“Sherpa gave me the best option for what I needed and was very upfront with me. I told them what my concerns were and they held to that. They told me everything that I should do and that I should pay by cash or certified check. I had to give them $250 and pay the rest to the driver when he got there. When I got ready to give the driver the money, he called his boss and gave her to me. She said I was going to need to pay $750 instead of $625. I told her I was quoted a price and that was all I was gonna pay. She called Sherpa back and Sherpa stuck up for me. I read about avoiding companies that want to give you discounts and gift cards because it`s something to get you in the back door. A couple of them did that but Sherpa didn`t do that at all. When I initially gave them the location of the car, it was in the middle of Indiana so they gave me a price for that. Once I talked to the seller and found out his actual location, they changed their quote because it was more in line with truck routes. They could`ve kept me to my initial quote, but they went by what the actual distance was. I appreciated that.”
“I bought a truck in Indiana and I needed to bring it to Texas. Sherpa`s reps were really helpful and their price was very much lower than the ones that we got. The communication was pretty good and the guy that was driving the trailer texted me when he picked up my vehicle. He couldn`t bring my truck to my house because it`s a residential area. So, he met me at an AutoZone. Other than that, the delivery was very on time and my truck arrived in an amazing condition because he came in a little enclosed trailer.”
“They were professional and they had a quick response. I was super impressed and I liked everybody whom I spoke to. The rep was concise and everything worked out well. The quote they gave was extremely reasonable especially with the timeframe in getting the vehicle shipped. The delivery was as smooth as you could ask for. We live in a gated community and it`s tough to get a big truck back here, so we just met off 75. I`ll probably use Sherpa again.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Carmel, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Indiana. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
