What our Northbrook customers say about Sherpa:
“I talked to Austin at Sherpa on Thursday evening at 7:31cst. He quoted me a price that I agreed to pay and said I would be contacted in 24 hours for a pick up time. At 8 am cst, my phone rang and the truck would be picked up that afternoon between 11-2 and be delivered to Illinois the next day! Being 4th of July weekend, I figured the cost would change or the time would be longer. At 1 pm cst, my truck arrived in a covered trailer!”
“Pick up and delivery were convenient and went very smoothly even though I was not there in person. The driver regularly updated his progress and ETA by phone or text, was courteous and clearly a seasoned transporter. I will need to transport another car sometime in the future and my go to company is and will be Sherpa! Oh and did I mention my SUV travelled CA to IL and arrived in excellent condition.”
“I called about 20 car transport companies. Sherpa was excellent. They were priced a little on the high side, but I wanted to feel assured my car would arrive quickly and safely, and it did! It took less than 4 days to have my car shipped from Illinois to Arizona. They picked up my car within 2 days of scheduling. They communicated very well and I’ll use them again as they were very professional and did not have any hidden fees.”

Factors that affect Northbrook Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The length of the journey from or to Northbrook, IL significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Northbrook. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers added protection from Illinois’ varied weather conditions, including snow and road salt in winter.
- Location Accessibility: Northbrook’s proximity to major routes like I-94 and I-294 can help reduce costs. However, if you’re shipping to or from a less accessible area in Northbrook, it may increase the price.
- Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
- Seasonal Factors: Auto transport prices in Northbrook can fluctuate with the seasons. Winter weather conditions may affect rates, while summer often sees increased demand due to relocations.
- Delivery Timeframe: If you need expedited shipping to or from Northbrook, it will cost more than standard delivery times. Flexible pickup and delivery dates can help reduce costs.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. If your car doesn’t run, inform the car shipping company as it may require special equipment, increasing the cost.
Understanding these factors can help you estimate your car shipping costs to or from Northbrook, IL more accurately. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Northbrook
When scheduling car shipping to or from Northbrook, IL, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal weather factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Northbrook experiences all four seasons, with cold winters and warm summers, which can affect your car shipping plans.
During the winter months, Northbrook often sees heavy snowfall and icy conditions. If you’re shipping a car during this time:
- Remove snow tires or chains before transport, as carriers can’t ship vehicles with these attached.
- Ensure pickup and drop-off locations are on level ground, avoiding steep inclines that could be dangerous in icy conditions.
- Be cautious about items left in the car, as extreme cold can damage electronics or cause liquids to freeze and expand.
In summer, temperatures can soar, affecting your car shipping experience:
- Consider using a sunshade to protect your car’s interior during transport.
- Remove any heat-sensitive items from the vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
Beyond weather, timing is crucial for efficient car transport in Northbrook. The city’s proximity to Chicago means it experiences busy periods that can affect auto transport services:
- Summer months are peak travel times, potentially leading to higher rates and longer wait times.
- Early fall sees increased activity due to college students returning to nearby universities.
- Consider scheduling your car shipping a few weeks before or after these peak times for potentially better rates and faster service.
By keeping these factors in mind, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from Northbrook, IL. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice on seasonal considerations and optimal shipping times.
Reviews from our Illinois Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Illinois customers:
“I bought a car in New York – I’m in Illinois! Yikes! So, I had to get it home. I picked Sherpa because my wife had heard fellow travel nurses who’d used them for transporting their travel trailers. They seemed reasonable and professional. They didn’t fail me! Got my car from New York to Illinois in less than a week! Got a $50 rebate for booking online. Got a $20 car wash reimbursed when it arrived as well. My only critique was the company they found to drive it here. The driver had a less than pleasant personality, was not going to give me any paperwork at the time of delivery until I asked for it. “Oh, you want a bill of laden? I guess I can fill one out for you.” Other than that, a seamless experience!”
“My Sherpa experience was wonderful! Â I purchased a used car from out of state and needed to find reasonable and reliable transport. Â Sherpa’s quote was lower than several others, AND the customer service and communication were great throughout. Â My car was assigned a hauler within a couple of days, and the car was here the next day after pickup (Illinois to Pennsylvania). Â The driver arrived as scheduled and was very professional and friendly. Â I would use Sherpa again!”
“Scheduled a pickup from TN to Il. Pickup/drop off was done in a timely manner, pickup on Tuesday and delivery on Wednesday, as promised. Car was not damaged. Driver was extremely courteous and prompt. Price quoted was the price I paid. There were no hidden fees and no surprises with contract agreement. Thank you for a job well done, for I really love the carrier that delivered the car (Just Car Haulers). Was able to communicate effectively with him, via text and phone. Driver kept me informed of vehicle delivery and notified me when he encounters a slight delivery delay. Would most definitely use them again.”
“I’ve used Sherpa before. So, I was familiar with them. About two years ago, I had another vehicle moved. This time, I had a 2009 Jaguar XF shipped from Chicago to Mississippi. I started to complete the process online, but then I ended up calling to complete the setup process of them picking up the car. It took them a few days. They confirmed that a company was ready to pick up and let me know the date. The company gave me a call when they were on the way and they picked the car up. They let me know when it had arrived. It was smooth. I gave them the receiving party’s information. So, they did not text me after they shipped the car to my mother. They did contact her to let her know they were maybe an hour or two out so she would know what time to be home. The car arrived on Thursday and I arrived in Mississippi on Friday. So, I saw the car and it was in the same condition. My experiences with Sherpa were easier than you expect it to be. They make the process very easy. So, that’s why I went back to them. I would recommend them to other people. I did check some other people as far as the cost, but Sherpa’s cost is very good compared to others. On my first time, they guaranteed to have a company reserved for you in so many days. If not, they’d start deducting from your fee. So, they did. It was fine. I recently got a rebate back from them, too. They do what they say.”
“We were moving from Chicago land area to LA so I needed to ship my car. I reached out to an open site, which gave me a million people. I started reading and they were just relentless. I was not moving for a while. I had no idea if it was gonna cost $1,000 to ship my car or $5,000. I was just trying to get estimates. My move was never an exact date to pick up the car. I was waiting on selling our house and a bunch of other things. I started to find someone again and Sherpa came up highly recommended. It had great reviews and a very competitive price. They didn’t inundate me. It was like, “When I figure it out, I’ll let you know.” Another issue was when we were moving and getting ourselves out here, we didn’t have an address because we didn’t find a house yet. Sherpa picked up the car and we didn’t even 100% know where we were looking to move to yet. That was pretty interesting. I had to update them. We were dealing with two people and they were fine. They understood and were very easy to talk to. Someone then called and said they were with Sherpa and were picking up the car. They were great. It took four days from start to finish. They even came in a day early than they said. The driver would text me every time like where he was gonna be, where he’s at now, and when he was gonna get there. He texted me the day before saying he was going to be in the vicinity at around X amount of time. It was perfect. The driver knew where we are going and dropping off my car was super easy. He was at the mall and it was great because he said he might be running late. I was having dinner with friends. I told the driver to let me know when he got there and I would run out and give him my keys. He kept me in the loop the entire time. We had snow so that was an issue. It was the same thing going in. We had to go a little further but it was not a big deal. He was right on like what time to pick up so that was fine. My husband said the car was gonna come washed but it didn’t. The car arrived really dirty but that didn’t bother me. I just did that drive so I understood. I was driving from Chicago to here. I went through a windstorm or tornadoes through Oklahoma, snow and fall staff, and a sandstorm somewhere in Texas. It definitely was a lot of debris. On the whole, call direct and book Sherpa. It was a no-brainer. You put your stuff in and they come.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Northbrook, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Illinois. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
