Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Highland Park?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

Consumer Affairs

“Everybody was kind and courteous. They listened. So I had no issue whatsoever. Sherpa was perfect. The company that got the run was picking up the vehicle on a Monday. On Tuesday, I received an email from the dealership stating that my LoJack was now up and running and to sign on and get my password and how to download the app. After I had done all of this, I thought of checking to see where my Cadillac Escalade was but it hadn`t moved. It was over 24 hours since they picked it up, and it will be delivered to me by Wednesday as told by the carrier that picked up the run. I called the number of the company that has it and the gentleman said it was in transit. I asked him, “Are you sure about that?” He said, “Yeah, yeah. It`s in transit.” I said, “Okay. Well, I know that`s not true.” Then he said, “Oh, no, no, no, we`ve got it on the truck. It`s already in transit.” So I said, “Okay, I`m going to come clean, so I`m going to tell you to stop lying right now because I gave you the opportunity to tell me the truth. You didn`t. My vehicle has LoJack and I know exactly where it is, what street it`s on. And I can tell you because I can see it on my app.” Then he told me that they had an issue with another vehicle. I said, “Let me stop you there. First of all, I don`t give a flying rat`s ass about another vehicle. What I cared about was the communication you should have given to me and said, `Hey, we ran into a problem. We`re not going to deliver on Wednesday. Is it okay to deliver on Thursday?` and then proceed to tell me the issue you ran into.” I came to find out that a vehicle on the transport had a dead battery and mine was in front of it. So they had to take it back two and a half hours to where it belonged, tow it off the carrier, and then proceed to bring mine. I told the rep, “The least you could have done was been honest with me. Listen, I get it. This is your driving from Illinois all the way to Connecticut. And I see you have a 203 number, so, obviously, you`re from Connecticut or have been from Connecticut at some point `cause that`s our area code.” He said, “Yes, ma`am. I`m from Bridgeport.” I said, “Well, great. Then expect my ** vehicle soon.” The next day, it wasn`t the actual driver that brought the vehicle. But it wasn`t his fault. He`s just a carrier. It didn`t arrive until 8:00 Thursday night. When the driver came, it was dark and raining. I couldn`t inspect my vehicle. I was a little disappointed. But nobody has any control over the weather. The driver asked me, “Is everything okay?” He stood there in the rain with me and as I was taking pictures, he was taking photos too. He was doing his diligence as well as I did. But all I asked was that the company that picked the run communicate better. I poked and prodded and caught the rep in a big bold-faced lie. The least he could have done was been honest and just communicated. But overall, Sherpa did exactly what they said they were going to do. They got the vehicle here in one piece. Sherpa did everything, including email, communication, and the price lock.”

“I carefully researched the top five transport companies and read their reviews. I reached out to three and my choice was made based on these reviews, competitive pricing, the company’s commitment to excellent service and the representatives I spoke with were knowledgeable and eager to win my confidence… and the name Sherpa speaks happily to my trekking days! Pick up and delivery were convenient and went very smoothly even though I was not there in person. The driver regularly updated his progress and ETA by phone or text, was courteous and clearly a seasoned transporter. I will need to transport another car sometime in the future and my go to company is and will be Sherpa! Oh and did I mention my SUV travelled CA to IL and arrived in excellent condition.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Scheduled a pickup from TN to Il. Pickup/drop off was done in a timely manner, pickup on Tuesday and delivery on Wednesday, as promised. Car was not damaged. Driver was extremely courteous and prompt. Price quoted was the price I paid. There were no hidden fees and no surprises with contract agreement. Thank you for a job well done, for I really love the carrier that delivered the car (Just Car Haulers). Was able to communicate effectively with him, via text and phone. Driver kept me informed of vehicle delivery and notified me when he encounters a slight delivery delay. Would most definitely use them again.”

Google
★★★★★

“I called about 20 car transport companies. Sherpa was excellent. They were priced a little on the high side, but I wanted to feel assured my car would arrive quickly and safely, and it did! It took less than 4 days to have my car shipped from Illinois to Arizona. They picked up my car within 2 days of scheduling. They communicated very well and I’ll use them again as they were very professional and did not have any hidden fees.”

Yelp
★★★★★

“My Sherpa experience was wonderful! I purchased a used car from out of state and needed to find reasonable and reliable transport. Sherpa’s quote was lower than several others, AND the customer service and communication were great throughout. My car was assigned a hauler within a couple of days, and the car was here the next day after pickup (Illinois to Pennsylvania). The driver arrived as scheduled and was very professional and friendly. I would use Sherpa again!”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Highland Park, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Illinois. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
