- Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Atlanta customers say about Sherpa:
“I called Sherpa and they reactivated the bid and even though it was some weeks later, they gave us the original price that they had quoted us. It was seamless. We made arrangements, paid our deposit and left the car with some friends because all of this was last minute and Sherpa gave us a pickup window of several days. They notified the friends when the driver was coming to pick up the vehicle. They took pictures. It was very well done and they came super fast. I was surprised. It was two and a half days, maybe, to transport from Atlanta to Gilbert, Arizona.”
“Very Good experience with Sherpa! I had never shipped a car before. I was about to go with another company that was supposed to be one of the best. The other company had been “negotiating” for me for several weeks with carriers and came back with a few offers that seemed high. I called Sherpa and they gave me a price $300 less than the other quote and offered a $50 rebate on top of that. Only trouble I had was the actual carrier I used showed up way later than they told me, but other than that, everything was perfect! Atlanta to Los Angeles.”
“EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! After searching for numerous auto transport companies to transport a vehicle from Georgia to California, I decided to go with Sherpa. I was in contact with Dylan throughout the entire process from the beginning of the quote until pick up day. He managed to schedule within a weeks notice without any issues. The quote never changed, not like other companies kept giving me a different rate each time I called. Car arrived within the time frame provided. I will definitely use them again.”

Factors that affect Atlanta Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: Atlanta’s central location in the Southeast affects shipping costs. Transporting cars to/from nearby cities like Charlotte or Nashville is typically cheaper than cross-country routes to Los Angeles or New York.
- Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to/from Atlanta. Enclosed transport, while about 50% pricier, offers extra protection for luxury or classic cars during Georgia’s occasional severe weather.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Atlanta’s extensive highway network (I-20, I-75, I-85) makes it easier and cheaper to ship cars to/from the city. Rural areas in Georgia may incur higher costs due to limited access.
- Seasonal Factors: Atlanta’s mild climate allows for year-round car shipping, but costs may rise during peak moving seasons (summer months and January) or major events like the Atlanta Film Festival.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks common in Atlanta suburbs may cost more to ship than compact cars. Non-running vehicles require special equipment, increasing the price.
- Timing Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window (e.g., 5 business days) often results in lower car shipping costs to/from Atlanta compared to expedited services.
Understanding these factors can help you get the best value when shipping your car to or from Atlanta. For a detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Atlanta car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is typically more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates, especially when shipping to or from Atlanta.
- Consider location: Discuss pickup and drop-off points with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors. Locations near major interstates like I-75, I-85, or I-285 can help reduce costs for auto transport in Atlanta.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and potential liability issues during car transport.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better options and potential savings on your Atlanta car shipping service.
- Opt for off-peak seasons: Consider scheduling your car transport to or from Atlanta during less busy times, like late fall or early spring, for potentially lower rates.
- Prepare your vehicle: Ensure your car is in good running condition to avoid any additional charges or delays during the auto transport process.

- Get an Instant Quote: Start by obtaining a quote from a reputable car shipping company like Sherpa Auto Transport. You can easily get an instant quote online or call (877) 850-1231 for personalized assistance.
- Book Your Shipment: Once you’re satisfied with the quote, lock in your shipment. Remember, with Atlanta’s unpredictable weather, flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can be beneficial.

Remove personal items and ensure your gas tank is no more than a quarter full. For a comprehensive guide on how to prepare your vehicle, check out our How To Ship a Car page.
- Meet the Carrier: Atlanta’s busy highways like I-75, I-85, and I-20 can impact pickup times. Be prepared to meet the carrier at an easily accessible location if door-to-door service isn’t possible due to local restrictions.
- Track Your Shipment: While your vehicle is in transit, stay informed about its progress. Atlanta’s central location makes it a hub for car transport, potentially speeding up delivery times.
- Receive Your Vehicle: Upon arrival, inspect your car thoroughly. Atlanta’s humid climate can sometimes cause minor condensation, so don’t be alarmed if you notice this.

Atlanta Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When shipping a car to or from Atlanta, GA, it’s crucial to be aware of local regulations and prepare for your move. Atlanta’s unique climate and bustling urban environment require special considerations for car transport and relocation.
For vehicle requirements, Georgia mandates annual emissions testing for cars in the Atlanta metro area. If you’re moving to Atlanta, ensure your vehicle complies with these standards. Additionally, you’ll need to register your car within 30 days of establishing residency. The Georgia Department of Driver Services handles vehicle registrations, making the process straightforward for newcomers.
Atlanta utilizes the Peach Pass for toll roads. If you’re using car shipping services to transport your vehicle away from Atlanta, remember to remove your Peach Pass to avoid unnecessary charges. For those moving to Atlanta, consider obtaining a Peach Pass for convenient travel on toll roads like GA 400.
When settling in Atlanta, set up utilities promptly. Georgia Power is the primary electricity provider, while Atlanta Watershed Management handles water services. For internet, major providers include AT&T, Xfinity, and Google Fiber. Don’t forget to update your voter registration and explore Atlanta’s excellent public library system for free resources.
Atlanta’s climate can be hot and humid, especially during summer. When shipping a car to Atlanta, consider timing your move to avoid extreme weather conditions. The city’s extensive highway system, including I-75, I-85, and I-285 (the Perimeter), makes auto transport relatively smooth, but be prepared for potential traffic congestion.
Whether you’re using a car shipping company to move to or from Atlanta, remember to forward your mail, cancel local memberships, and notify important contacts of your address change. By planning ahead and understanding local requirements, your transition to or from the vibrant city of Atlanta will be much smoother.
Atlanta, Georgia Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Atlanta?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Atlanta. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Atlanta?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Atlanta?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Atlanta?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Reviews from our Georgia Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Georgia customers:
“Sherpa shipped an Acura SUV from Atlanta to Maine. The driver was very courteous and he was very quick and facile with the Google translate, so I was able to communicate with him to my satisfaction. The Sherpa site tells you, “Be sure to do this. Be sure to do that.†One thing they said to do when the transporter came is to do the walkthrough with the transporter. What happened was that the transporter came and it was already nightfall. Before he rang the door at my house, he went around the car, took photos, and did the inspection. Sherpa had emphasized, “Be sure that you do that with the driver.†So, I insisted on doing it over again, and he was very courteous about it. He did it on an app and I was able to pull it up right away. He sent me a link to their app. Technologically, it was very seamless, and so it went off without a hitch. The car went to a friend. I sold it to a friend`s sister who`s deaf, and she had a neighbor who helped her do the inspection on the arrival, but they were texting me photos of the car when it was still on the truck and when it arrived, and it looked fine. It didn`t even look like it got dirty from transport.”
“We shipped two vehicles from Atlanta to Las Vegas and I chose Sherpa because they had fewer complaints of all the transporters. Customer service at booking was excellent. Everything was explained fully. Pick up was confirmed a day before and arrived exactly when promised. Delivery was actually earlier than the time frame given but exactly when the driver indicated. No damage, friendly service. My transport could not have gone smoothly. I highly recommend Sherpa!!”
“I am sooo thankful I saw a TikTok mentioning this company. I was in the process of shipping my car from California to Georgia and all of the car brokers I experienced were trying to scam me by offering a low upfront cost and then the day before pick up say they had an issue with a driver and I need to pay more. I called Sherpa and they told me that this is a common scam in the transport business and reassured me that while the price they offered me is high, it will remain the price with no surprises. I did have a minor issue with communication with the actual truck driver picking up my car but it was solved very quickly. I highly suggest Sherpa. And for anyone who is looking at other companies reviews, make sure to review the accounts that are leaving the Google reviews. This other company I found had their own employees create new Google accounts to make bogus 5 star reviews. Do you research and go with Sherpa for peace of mind.”
“Sherpa`s price was very good. They were very attentive, and they got back to me, and they were very nice to work with. I could always get through to them. There was always somebody that answered the phone, and they were very pleasant to deal with. I had an extremely good experience with the man that came and picked up the car. He was very nice to work with and very efficient, got the car on the trailer and he was out of here. The transport took an extra day because he got stuck in traffic in downtown Atlanta that he couldn`t get through. But that was okay. He was supposed to deliver it that night and delivered it the next morning. That was perfect because I had got a call at 7:30 in the morning before my grandson went to school, so he got to see his new car. So they were very, very, very good on that and very good on communication. I`m extremely pleased. I was also very pleased that my final quote was less than what they had originally quoted me because it took a little bit longer for them to get the car up there. They gave me $100 off. I would definitely use Sherpa again. I highly recommend them.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Atlanta, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Georgia. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

- Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
