What our Athens customers say about Sherpa:
“I am sooo thankful I saw a TikTok mentioning this company. I was in the process of shipping my car from California to Georgia and all of the car brokers I experienced were trying to scam me by offering a low upfront cost and then the day before pick up say they had an issue with a driver and I need to pay more. I called Sherpa and they told me that this is a common scam in the transport business and reassured me that while the price they offered me is high, it will remain the price with no surprises.”
“Sherpa responded to our inquiries quickly, and I was impressed by their willingness to help. The transport also went faster than we anticipated, which was good. There was some miscommunication on the exact address they were to pick up the car at, and the driver had to search around a bit to get to the right address, but that was our only issue.”
“A couple of things about shipping our car from Seattle to Georgia beyond the price, which of course was a factor, were important for us. First, was establishing a window of time for the pick-up so that we could plan our own travel to Georgia. Second was communication among Sherpa, the broker, and Ruse Auto Transport, the shipper, and ourselves.”

When choosing an auto transport company, it is crucial to select the best car shipping company by considering factors such as reliability, customer satisfaction, and transparency in pricing.
Factors that affect Athens Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Athens, GA and your destination significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer journeys.
- Vehicle Size: Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks cost more to ship than compact cars due to their weight and size. This is particularly important when considering Athens’ diverse vehicle landscape, from college students’ compact cars to larger family vehicles.
- Transport Type: Open transport is the most common and affordable option for car shipping to or from Athens. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection and is ideal for high-value or classic cars, especially during Georgia’s occasional severe weather events.
- Season: Auto transport prices in Athens can fluctuate seasonally. Summer months and January tend to be busier and more expensive due to student moves and snowbird relocations. Consider shipping during off-peak times for potential savings.
- Route Popularity: Athens’ proximity to major highways like I-85 and US-78 can affect pricing. Popular routes connecting Athens to other college towns or major cities may offer more competitive rates due to higher carrier availability.
- Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates can lead to lower car shipping costs. Rush or guaranteed delivery services to or from Athens will increase the price.
- Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost of auto transport to or from Athens.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Athens, GA. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Athens car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-85 or US-441. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
- Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can help you secure better rates. Consider a range of dates rather than a specific day for your Athens auto transport.
- Consider seasonality: Car shipping to or from Athens, GA may be more affordable during off-peak seasons. Avoid major events like University of Georgia move-in days when demand is high.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Athens?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. Reviews from our Georgia Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Georgia customers:
“I live in Georgia and bought a car at a New York State. I had hired a transport company to start with and they weren’t getting anything done after about nine days. So, I was doing some research online and got some good feedback about Sherpa. They were mostly Americans. Most of the people I was dealing with that other company were not and they could barely understand them talking on the phone. I called the representative with Sherpa and they were easy to talk to and deal with. They understood my dilemma and they had me a driver in three days. The price was what they told me. I paid $450 more than I’d do with the previous company that I hired and fired but it was worth it. From what I understood, that was about what it was gonna cost anyway to get the car delivered. I did some research and was asking questions on a trucker transport forum. They were all saying that the price that I was given wouldn’t get anybody to bring the car to me. They said if I’d pay for the transport in the 1,400 to 1,500 bucks, I’d get it. And that was what I did. I ended up paying 1,500. But the driver that Sherpa had hired was professional, excellent, very helpful and very polite. He was top-notch. I would use that guy again. Even after he got the car off the trailer, he was helping me with the car. The reps from Sherpa were fantastic. I talked to two different guys and they were top-notch. They were very courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. They said that even if they needed to up the amount of money paid to the driver, they would lower their cost to the company in order to get the car to me. I’m very pleased with them. The condition of the vehicles is what it was when it left. There was no damage. Overall, the experience was great and I was very pleased with their service from Sherpa.”
“I needed to ship the car I purchased from Georgia to Arizona. Sherpa by far had the best price for enclosed transportation. I was also pleased that it only took two days to get assigned to a shipper. With other companies I’ve used in the past I’ve waited up to 5-days for a shipper to take the job. My only 1 small criticism is probably with the shipper vs Sherpa. I had a slight, very slight hard time getting an update on delivery and where the vehicle is. LOL it’s human nature right? I’ve bought myself a fancy new car and I want it like yesterday. So in five or six years when I get the new car bug I will reach out to Sherpa first. Good competitive price and very good communication. I was pleased.”
“Loved this company for my AZ to GA car transport! Decided to use Sherpa Auto Transport since the reviews were great. Started the online process and got my quote right then and there, which was valid for a day or 2. Pricing was super competitive and they offered a rebate (currently still waiting for that) but the process was super simple! Sherpa called me the week of my move and confirmed they had a carrier. The entire process was smooth from the signing up, to pick up and car drop off. And I like how they reimbursed for a car wash! I would definitely use this company again.”
“I initially contacted Sherpa to get pricing to transport my vehicle from Savannah, GA to Vallejo, CA on 12/01/22. I spoke with Amanii the best customer service agent EVER! Unfortunately, I chose a different carrier because they gave me a lower quote. My vehicle was not picked up in January as promised. I arrived in Vallejo on 01/08/23, I contacted Sherpa again on 01/09/23, spoke with Amanii, he scheduled my transport and I received my vehicle on 01/17/23!! The carrier was amazing. I would highly recommend Sherpa.”
“I shipped my car from GA to MN on 8/31/22 and chose Sherpa due to the positive reviews I read online. My experience was superb. They held true to their word as far as timing and price. I was booked with a driver that lives in MN and he was professional, courteous, and punctual. He contacted me and actually picked up my car 1 day early. My car arrived safely and in the same condition that I sent it. If I ever have to do a long distance move again, I will definitely choose Sherpa.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Athens, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Georgia. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
