What our St. Augustine customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

"Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic."

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

"It didn’t take me too long to get my date I wanted to sent my car from Crestview, Florida to Denver Colorado. I gave Shane the date May 23rd I asked for and the driver arrived on that day I asked for. The dispatcher from the company assigned for me were incredible, the lady dispatcher were on top of informing me on date when the driver will come to pick my car."

Google
★★★★★

"Just used them to transport my mom`s old 1993 Del Sol from Inverness, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Created the request on Sat 7 Oct. Same day I received confirmation of the booking and price (lower than the other companies I contacted). Received an email on Sun 8 Oct that they were still searching for a driver. On Mon 9 Oct, I received an email indicating a driver was located."

Factors that affect St. Augustine Car Shipping Prices

  • Distance: The length of the journey affects shipping costs. St. Augustine's location on Florida's northeast coast means longer trips for vehicles coming from the west or midwest, potentially increasing prices.
  • Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for most customers. Enclosed trailers, while offering protection from weather and debris, are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times. They're typically only necessary for high-value or classic cars.
  • Pickup and Drop-off Locations: Urban areas are cheaper for shipping than rural ones. St. Augustine's proximity to Jacksonville can be advantageous for cost savings. Consider meeting the carrier near I-95 or US-1 for potentially lower rates.
  • Pickup Window: Sherpa's most budget-friendly option is a five-day pickup window. Expedited service will cost more but might be necessary during St. Augustine's busy tourist seasons.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger, heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Keep in mind that many St. Augustine residents own beach-friendly vehicles like jeeps or SUVs, which may incur higher shipping costs due to their size.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship. If your car can't roll, brake, or steer, expect higher costs for special equipment needed to load it.
  • Time of Year: Summer months and January see peak auto transport demand, leading to higher prices. St. Augustine's mild winter climate might make off-season shipping more appealing and cost-effective.
  • Weather Conditions: St. Augustine's subtropical climate, with occasional hurricanes, can impact shipping schedules and potentially costs. Plan ahead during hurricane season (June to November) for smoother transport.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your shipment at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles from St. Augustine.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping provides the lowest rates and greatest flexibility for negotiating prices. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport is typically more cost-effective.
  • Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find convenient locations near major interstates like I-95, which runs close to St. Augustine. This can help reduce fuel costs for carriers.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues. Lighter vehicles are more fuel-efficient and may result in lower transport costs.
  • Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better pricing options. Carriers may offer discounts for shipments that fit well into their existing schedules.
  • Consider seasonality: St. Augustine's popularity as a tourist destination can affect transport prices. Spring and summer months may see higher demand, so planning your shipment during off-peak seasons could result in better rates.

How does St. Augustine Car Shipping Work?

Navigating the car shipping process to or from St. Augustine, Florida, can be a breeze with the right guidance. Here's a step-by-step guide tailored for the Oldest City:

  • Get an instant quote: Start by obtaining a quote from a trusted provider like Sherpa Auto Transport. You'll need details about your vehicle, pickup and delivery locations, and preferred shipping method.
  • Lock in your shipment: Once you're happy with the quote, secure your booking. Remember, nothing is due upfront with Sherpa.
  • Prepare your vehicle: Wash your car thoroughly, inspect for existing damage, and remove personal items. Given St. Augustine's humid climate, ensure your air conditioning system is in good condition before shipping.
  • Consider local factors: St. Augustine's proximity to I-95 makes it easily accessible for auto transporters. However, be aware that hurricane season (June to November) might affect shipping schedules.

A Local Guide to Vehicle Transportion in St. Augustine, Florida

When moving to or from St. Augustine, Florida, it's crucial to understand the local vehicle requirements and regulations. Florida's SunPass is the primary toll transponder system, so if you're relocating, consider removing your current toll reader to avoid unnecessary charges. Vehicle registration in Florida is straightforward, but you'll need to complete it within 30 days of establishing residency. The process involves providing proof of insurance, completing a vehicle inspection, and paying the required fees at the local DMV.

St. Augustine's unique climate demands special attention to your vehicle. The city's proximity to the coast means salt air can be corrosive, so regular car washes are essential. Additionally, the hot, humid summers can take a toll on your vehicle's battery and air conditioning system, making routine maintenance crucial.

When settling in St. Augustine, you'll need to set up utilities. Florida Power & Light (FPL) is the primary electricity provider, while the City of St. Augustine Utilities Department handles water services. For internet, you have options like Comcast, AT&T, and CenturyLink. Don't forget to update your voter registration and, if you have children, enroll them in the St. Johns County School District.

If you're moving away from St. Augustine, remember to:

  • Forward your mail through the USPS
  • Cancel local memberships (gyms, clubs, etc.)
  • Return library books and cancel your card
  • Notify your bank and credit card companies of your move

Lastly, familiarize yourself with St. Augustine's major roadways. I-95 runs north-south just west of the city, while US-1 and A1A are key local highways. Keep in mind that during peak tourist seasons, especially around major events like the Nights of Lights festival, traffic can be heavy in the historic downtown area.
