Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Sanford, FL significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Sanford. Enclosed transport, while offering extra protection, is typically 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy and their weight.
  • Location Accessibility: Sanford’s proximity to major highways like I-4 and SR 417 can help reduce costs. However, if you’re shipping to or from more remote areas, prices may increase.
  • Seasonal Factors: Florida’s hurricane season (June to November) and Sanford’s popular events like the Sanford Cruise-In can affect car shipping prices due to demand fluctuations.
  • Fuel Prices: As a major factor in auto transport costs, fluctuating fuel prices in the Sanford area can impact overall shipping rates.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing costs.
  • Timing Flexibility: Having a flexible pickup window can lead to more competitive rates for car shipping to or from Sanford, FL.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Sanford, FL. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Sanford car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially bundle your vehicle with others, increasing the chances of a lower rate.
  • Choose open transport: Open car shipping offers the most competitive prices for auto transport to or from Sanford, FL. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport provides greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates.
  • Select strategic locations: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find pickup and dropoff points near major highways like I-4 or SR 417. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall car shipping price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better options and potential savings on your Sanford auto transport. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective shipping times.
  • Utilize Sherpa’s Price Lock Promise: While shopping around is common, Sherpa’s upfront, realistic quotes come with a Price Lock Promise. This ensures you won’t face unexpected costs, providing peace of mind for your car shipping experience.

Sanford, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Sanford?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Sanford. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Sanford?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Sanford?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Sanford?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. “At two different times, I spoke to two people who were both very helpful and knowledgeable. Price-wise, Sherpa Auto Transport was the same as everyone. They were all within the same ballpark of each other. But I felt they were more comfortable after speaking to them. Also, I could see why they had the reviews because they were exactly like it was when talking to them. And everything was smooth. They offered a free car wash. Everything was wonderful. I submitted the thing through online, and they sent an email back with the quote. It was a day later, they called to go over a couple of things. I`m in South Florida and the car would go to Boston, and the tires in Florida were not the type of tires I need for winter up north. So, that would cause a delay because we had to wait for the tires to come in. She said, “No problem. I`ll make a note in the system so we can still hold on to the quote we gave you and you don`t lose the price. And as soon as you know when the tires will be in and when you can do this, just let us know.” Once I knew when the tires would be done, I called them back. She guided me on what window to take for pick-up, so it would be there when my daughter got there. She helped me with figuring what would be the best dates for everything. And while I was on the phone with her, she sent me an email which I had to click on and pay the deposit, and she stayed on the phone with me while the whole thing went through to make sure they got it. There were no glitches in their system or on my end. Within a day, she sent me the name of the company that would take the car, gave me all their contact information if I needed anything from them. The pick-up went very well. It was not the driver`s fault that it was pouring rain. I felt bad. Those things happen. In that type of business, it`s not like an airplane where people know what time they would arrive and depart. The driver would get stuck based on whoever is in front of him. He thought he would be there between 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning, and it wound up being more 2 o`clock in the afternoon. I knew he couldn`t get into my neighborhood. So, the company gave me the driver`s direct phone number so I could pre-arrange a pick-up where he could get the truck and be able to get the car. So, between the weather and the rain, it delayed him. The pick-up wound being later than expected. The drop-off, again, was not his fault, the car that was dropped off before us gave the wrong address and did not answer their phone. It was my brother-in-law that handled that and they agreed it would be too dark by the time the driver would be able to bring the car. So, they said they would do it first thing in the morning and they were there at 7:30 with the car.”

“I read the Better Business Bureau reports and Sherpa was at the top. I’m a senior, so I looked at a few senior sites and Sherpa was recommended by one of the sites that I looked at. I called them and they were pretty straightforward. They weren’t the lowest price but they had a promised guarantee stating that it would only be a certain price and they guaranteed $300 over. I have a Kia and I was having it transported from Southern Arizona to Sebring, Florida. What Sherpa does is they put the bid out and different transport companies then bid on that. I had a gentleman from Miami who was making the trip back and forth and he called me. I was under the impression I would get a 24 to 48-hour notice. He was very professional when he showed up and he delivered my car safely. But he only gave me half hour notice on my end before he wanted to get the car. The car was picked up on a Tuesday morning and it was delivered on Friday. I was still in Arizona. My daughter-in-law and son were having the car delivered. The gentleman texted me Thursday night and said, “Let them know that I’ll be there first thing in the morning.†It was already midnight in Florida so they didn’t get the message. In the end, it all worked out fine despite the transport guy not quite meeting the expectations that Sherpa said I would get from a carrier. The car was delivered exactly as they said it would be. It made it fine. I was promised upfront by Sherpa a free car wash but my car was clean, so I didn’t use the car wash. I was very happy.”

“If you`ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn`t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won`t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”

“My mom was spending two months in Florida and I shipped a Ford Fusion from Connecticut. I liked Sherpa Auto Transport`s price and better business review over other companies. One other company was very cheap, but their Better Business review is terrible. The customer service representatives at Sherpa were fantastic and they were very informative when I called with questions. They responded and always took the time to explain things. The only reason I hesitated was they have the payment to them and I also had to pay the driver directly. I thought that it was gonna be a pain to get a cashier`s check, but it was fine and their price was competitive with the other company. Sherpa picked the vehicle up on a Friday and they said that it should be in Florida around Wednesday or Thursday of the following at the latest. My mom was down there without a car. But when I met the driver, Rick, he said, “Nah, I`m gonna be there Monday or Tuesday.” It was super quick. Getting a hold of my mom on her cellphone is hard, so the driver did a great job of getting the vehicle delivered to her because she can be a little anxiety-prone. I talked to the driver and he told me it was all good. It was great and my mom had a good experience. Rick was awesome. He showed up and was super courteous and professional. He was a nice guy. He got delayed because there was some traffic, but he really kept me in the loop. Anytime I called, he picked up right away. It was a smooth transaction.”

“I searched on the internet and looked at a couple of companies and whatever was written about them. Sherpa appealed to me. I gave them a shot and was very satisfied dealing with them. I booked it initially and it was very clearly explained to me what that entailed, about the payment and about the pricing. That was fine. But at some point I had to cancel and change because of this pandemic and I found them to be very easy to deal with. The people at the office were very personable. They were very accommodating because I needed the two cars. I was stuck in Florida for almost two months longer than I expected, and that worked. The car was going to my granddaughter`s and when I shipped it, we went through a very easy process and the arrangement of the dates. So the communication, one-on-one, was very easy. I don`t believe I lost any money on the cancellation either. The driver was fine as well and they got where they were supposed to get when they were supposed to get there. Prior to this, on two occasions with two separate companies, my car received a ticket and it wasn`t a matter of having the pass in the car on top of a truck. I have photos of the vehicle being driven through a Florida turnpike toll after it was picked up by a truck. I discussed that with Sherpa and they guaranteed me that wouldn`t happen. I haven`t had have this experience with Sherpa so far. I liked the ease of doing business with them.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Sanford, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them.
