Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs Icon

Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Port Orange customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“It didn’t take me too long to get my date I wanted to sent my car from Crestview, Florida to Denver Colorado. I gave Shane the date May 23rd I asked for and the driver arrived on that day I asked for. The dispatcher from the company assigned for me were incredible, the lady dispatcher were on top of informing me on date when the driver will come to pick my car. Also I’ve been receiving email from Sherpa information about facts what to expect during the time I will get the car till it arrived to my son`s place.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The pickup was in a rural part of Florida and I was concerned that it was off of a major highway. But that didn`t make a difference. Once they made their commitment that they would pick up the car around 4:00 on that Wednesday, they were there on point. We were able to put a few boxes in the car that I would have had to pay UPS or ship my uncle`s personal things. But I made sure that there was no obstruction of view and the front seat was completely clear of anything.”

Google
★★★★★

“I recently had death in my family and had to get my uncle’s car from Florida to Maryland. The paperwork to change ownership of the car was slow, but Sherpa Auto Transport stayed in touch with me. They called once a week to ensure me that the price we had initially agreed to would still be honored. They were very compassionate about my situation. They said as soon as I told them the car was ready, they would find a driver.”

Factors that affect Port Orange Car Shipping Prices

Car Transport Distance
Pickup and Drop Off Location

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Port Orange, FL significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Port Orange. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from Florida’s intense sun, occasional storms, and road debris.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Route Popularity: Port Orange’s proximity to I-95 and I-4 can affect pricing. Routes to major cities or along these interstates may be more affordable due to higher carrier availability.
  • Seasonal Factors: Florida’s peak tourist season (winter months) can influence car shipping prices. Summer can also see increased rates due to the general uptick in relocation during this time.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading, increasing the cost.
  • Timing Flexibility: Being flexible with pickup and delivery dates can lead to more competitive rates for car transport to or from Port Orange.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Port Orange, FL. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Port Orange car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Open car shipping is generally more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility for negotiating lower rates, especially for standard vehicles.
  • Select strategic locations: Discuss pickup and drop-off points with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors. Locations near major highways like I-95 or I-4 can reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your price.
  • Prepare your vehicle: Remove personal items and excess weight from your car. This not only protects your belongings but can also reduce shipping costs.
  • Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates. Carriers may offer discounts for filling spots in their existing routes.
  • Consider off-peak seasons: Auto transport to or from Port Orange, FL might be more affordable during less busy times of the year, typically avoiding summer and holiday seasons.
  • Opt for door-to-terminal: While Sherpa specializes in door-to-door service, choosing to drop off or pick up your vehicle at a nearby terminal can sometimes reduce costs.

Vehicle Transport Registration

When relocating to or from Port Orange, FL, it’s crucial to understand the local vehicle requirements and regulations. Florida has specific rules for car registration and inspection that you should be aware of when using car shipping services. Unlike some states, Florida doesn’t require annual vehicle inspections, but you must register your car within 30 days of establishing residency.

Before using auto transport to move your car, consider removing your SunPass transponder. This toll collection system is widely used in Florida, and you don’t want to incur charges while your vehicle is in transit. When you arrive, you can easily reactivate your SunPass or obtain a new one for convenient travel on Florida’s toll roads.

Port Orange’s climate can be harsh on vehicles, with high humidity and salt air from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. When your car arrives via car shipping, consider applying a protective wax coating to shield it from these elements. Also, be prepared for hurricane season (June to November) and have an evacuation plan that includes your vehicle.

For a smooth transition to Port Orange, set up utilities before your move. Florida Power & Light (FPL) provides electricity, while the City of Port Orange handles water services. For internet, providers like Spectrum and AT&T offer high-speed connections. Don’t forget to update your driver’s license and register to vote at the local DMV within 30 days of your move.

If you’re moving away from Port Orange, remember to cancel local memberships, forward your mail, and notify important contacts of your address change. When using a car transport company, ensure your vehicle is clean and in good working order for a smooth car shipping experience.

Whether you’re moving to or from Port Orange, utilizing professional car shipping services can make your relocation much easier. With its proximity to I-95 and I-4, Port Orange is well-connected for efficient auto transport, ensuring your vehicle arrives safely at your new destination.

Port Orange, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Port Orange?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Port Orange?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Port Orange?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

“My fiancée is a wizard when it comes to doing her due diligence and finding the best companies and reading reviews. I asked her to pull her magic and let me know what she thought, and Sherpa was in the top five transport companies and were actually the first ones to answer the phone or respond to my call. Joseph was the gentleman that I talked to. He was very professional and friendly. He made me feel very comfortable with using the company to broker the deal for me. Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic. We got that place lined up. It was a few miles away from my house. They called me numerous times when they were on the way and got there. The car was dirty, but I expected it to be. It was raining and it was an open truck. But other than that, no damage to the vehicle. The brothers were incredibly friendly and professional people that if I had to use anybody again, I would recommend them and Sherpa. I was very worried throughout the process because I have never purchased a vehicle that I have never seen before, or even driven or heard it idle. They got it to me and it was in good shape. And everything was good. I enjoyed it. Plus they were cool. They had a very exotic, classic car on the truck and they had to offload it to get my car off. They opened the doors and let me peek my head in and take a look at it, and I drooled a bit at how cool the car was. Sherpa`s quote was better than anything that I had received other than ones that were scams. I`ve never done this before. I just signed up online and I was hammered with emails and phone calls from a lot of people that were trying to, “Oh, I`ll beat this price. I`ll do this price.†And I was getting quotes that seemed too good to be true, and they were, because once I went and got my fiancée to do her magic and look these particular companies up, she was like, “Yeah, that`s gonna be a no. Each one of those has terrible reviews and they`re scams.†Because they quoted me 500 bucks, $600, that type of stuff. What Sherpa quoted me wasn`t gonna fluctuate. If it did, they would apply money towards it if need be. It was right on the money. The transport was part of my car purcahsing process that was the fastest, streamlined and very much worth the money that I paid for.”

“The young lady that I spoke with in Charlotte was very honest and straightforward. She shared with me some information regarding what I may run into. I`ve heard that what you’re given is not the price you end up paying, especially if there`s conflict with the driver. So that was the first reason I ended up going with Sherpa. Secondly, it was a reasonable price. I could have got it done a little bit cheaper, but I was not guaranteed that rate that I was given by other companies. She told me the rate that she gave me was guaranteed. Sherpa`s customer service was excellent. They had a driver set up, and he had some mechanical problems. They reassigned me to a different driver out of North Carolina. I reside in North Carolina, and they were bringing the vehicle to North Carolina. There weren`t any problems with the first driver. The second driver just picked right up where the other one left off. So, that was not a problem at all. He did a fantastic job. He was only transporting two vehicles, my vehicle and one other. There were no issues. There was no damage. Sherpa did what they said they were going to do, and that`s all a customer can I ask for. I’m very pleased.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa was very responsive. I was on a timeline and needed a company that was going to be professional and timely. I could tell Sherpa was very organized and did a lot of auto transport. They gave a quote in a timely manner via email and were very clear on the next steps. They were top-notch. The vehicles were picked up on time as arranged and the drivers were professional. First, we started with one vehicle then we added a second one. Where I lived in Florida, they didn`t allow trucks that size so I met one of the drivers at a parking lot nearby. I met the other driver on a residential street nearby that allowed larger trucks. But they were both very convenient, less than a mile from my home in Florida. Both drivers were communicative throughout and I`m very pleased with how my two vehicles were transported from one coast to the other. They were dirty but the nice thing about Sherpa is you could go get a car wash on them and I took advantage of that. I got both cars washed and sent them the receipt. They credited my credit card $20 for each vehicle. My only complaint is the price was high but Sherpa didn`t change the pricing so it was fair. Also, the price was high with every auto transport. I could have found one a little bit cheaper but they didn`t seem as professional.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Dylan, the guy from Sherpa, told me about how auto shipping works and how they do things. He was honest with telling me everything and one thing I liked about it is it wasn’t some way somewhere else to have to get the car from Florida. I live in Charlotte and Sherpa is in Charlotte. At least they are local. I worked with somebody else and didn`t get Dylan but both of them were very good and knowledgeable, which is what I liked about Sherpa and I have referred them. The transport was from Gainesville, Florida to Charlotte and it took about seven hours. And with regards to cost, everything stayed the same. The driver was nice and let me know when he was there. He had to park the vehicle up on the street and then drive the car down in the neighborhood, which is fine. And he got here with that time he told me he would. He called me said it`s not going to be 9:00 and it’s probably more like 11:00. He probably got caught in traffic but he communicated with me along the way. There were no scratches on the car so everything went good.”

Yelp
★★★★★

“If you`ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn`t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won`t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Port Orange, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
