What our Port Charlotte customers say about Sherpa:
“When Frantz picked our car up, nice gentleman was in contact several times on its destination, would use again, now if I get my 50$ rebate as quickly, I will be super happy!! My car was in good shape when it left and was returned the same way. The driver was super nice and very helpful. He should get a recognition, the product he was handling was precious!”
“Dylan, the guy from Sherpa, told me about how auto shipping works and how they do things. He was honest with telling me everything and one thing I liked about it is it wasn’t some way somewhere else to have to get the car from Florida. The transport was from Gainesville, Florida to Charlotte and it took about seven hours.”
“We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me.”

Factors that affect Port Charlotte Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The distance between Port Charlotte and the destination affects car shipping costs. Longer distances typically mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer journeys.
- Route: Port Charlotte’s proximity to I-75 can make shipping more affordable. Routes along major highways are generally cheaper than those requiring travel on smaller roads.
- Trailer Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Port Charlotte. Enclosed transport offers extra protection but costs about 50% more and may take longer.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space and fuel they require.
- Time of Year: Florida’s peak tourist season (winter months) can affect car shipping prices to and from Port Charlotte. Summer is also busy for auto transport nationwide.
- Weather: Port Charlotte’s subtropical climate means hot, humid summers and mild winters. While severe weather is rare, hurricane season (June to November) could potentially impact shipping schedules and costs.
- Fuel Prices: Fluctuations in fuel costs can affect auto transport rates to and from Port Charlotte.
- Vehicle Condition: Inoperable vehicles cost more to ship as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.
Understanding these factors can help you plan your car shipping to or from Port Charlotte more effectively. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Port Charlotte car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is generally more affordable than enclosed. While enclosed transport is necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and lower rates.
- Select strategic locations: Discuss with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors about pickup and drop-off points near major highways like I-75 or US-41. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
- Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before transport. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during the auto transport process.
- Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Port Charlotte car shipping needs. Consider weekday transport, which may be less expensive than weekends.
- Consider seasonal factors: Florida’s mild climate makes Port Charlotte an ideal location for year-round car shipping. However, be aware that prices may fluctuate during peak seasons, such as winter months when snowbirds flock to the Sunshine State.

Port Charlotte, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Port Charlotte?

In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Port Charlotte?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Reviews from our Florida Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Florida customers:
“We needed to transport the car from Fort Myers to Virginia. Sherpa had the best reviews overall and their guarantee was right on the money. Everything was perfect. Setting everything up was easiest thing from the get-go. Every time we called, we were able to talk to the rep. Even though it was kind of a third-party, it was really easy. We called and told them what we wanted. And when we had questions, I could call back five minutes later and get the same girl again. I didn`t have to go through my whole story. They were excellent. The driver had to deal with my mom and she is in a retirement home. It ended up that the driver couldn`t park in the parking lot that they thought he could. So, he was awesome as far as being flexible and working with her. He did exactly what he said he was gonna do. He bought the car, and it was a perfect experience. It was really effortless and Sherpa did all the work. They did exactly what they said that they were gonna do, and the price was exactly what they said was gonna be. The only thing that I`m waiting now is the $50 rebate.”
“I arranged for shipping my daughter`s vehicle from Florida to California. When I called Sherpa`s 800 number the process was fully explained, which was important to me as it was the first time I ever shipped a car. The car was picked up a day or two outside of the originally scheduled window but that was OK with me — Sherpa kept me constantly informed of the situation. The driver of the transport was very professional and took great care in loading the vehicle. The car actually arrived across the country ahead of the promised window, so the end-to-end process was timely. Also, I was able to use a credit card for payment for a $100 charge, which Sherpa promised to rebate back to me within 30 days of completion of the shipment and by mailing in a copy of the bill of lading. I received my rebate card today, about two weeks after mailing in the paperwork, so it was a promise kept on a timely basis. I would definitely call Sherpa again should the need to ship a vehicle arise.”
“I had a four-door Jeep Wrangler transported from Florida to Arizona. Sherpa was very customer-service-oriented when I spoke with them. The reviews about the company really swayed me to use their service. The gal that helped me was personable and explained things well. The price lock option was very nice and I liked that. It was very helpful. Also, the final cost was reasonable. I had one other company that was a little less expensive and the service was great. But I wanted to go with someone I felt more comfortable with. The only thing is they don`t give you an idea of who`s gonna be picking up the car until the last minute. It`s a little scary waiting until the last minute to know for sure if they`re gonna pick it up. But that`s just how the industry works. I was there when the car was picked up and I was there when it was dropped off. I met the driver. The only thing I didn`t like was they stopped on a busy street right by my house when there was one road they could have come on. We had to walk out there and I had to walk to the median. That aside, the driver was courteous. It`s really hard to move those big trucks in and out of residential areas, so I understood. It didn`t bother me that much. Everything worked out great. The intended purpose was fulfilled and there was great customer service.”
“Just used them to transport my mom`s old 1993 Del Sol from Inverness, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Created the request on Sat 7 Oct. Same day I received confirmation of the booking and price (lower than the other companies I contacted). Received an email on Sun 8 Oct that they were still searching for a driver. On Mon 9 Oct, I received an email indicating a driver was located. At 3 PM I received a call informing me the driver would like to pick up at 6 PM the same day. Wow that was quick. Driver arrived at 6:40 pm on Mon 9 Oct – first working day after my initial contact. The driver did call me directly to confirm the person she was to obtain the car from – my sister. Since the truck was so large and my Pittsburgh location is down narrow streets, I decided to change the delivery location to a barely used strip mall directly off the interstate. On Tue at 9:10 AM I texted the new location to my Sherpa contact. My Sherpa contact agreed and indicated the car should be delivered the same day. The driver did call me, 30 minutes before she expected to arrive at the strip mall parking lot. Wow by 6:30 PM on Tue 10 Oct the car was delivered in perfect condition. Seriously it could not have been easier or better service delivered. I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport!!!!”
“When researching companies to ship my 2012 Kia Sorento cross country Sherpa Auto Transport stood out as exceptional–by previous customers. I subsequently chose Sherpa, and they exceeded my expectations! They tell you what to expect throughout the process, and proactively followup with you at every step. Their pricing was reasonable and I even got a promised rebate for providing certain documentation at the conclusion of the shipment. The shipment went perfectly from the advanced price quote, to auto pick up, to the final delivery. Despite a snowstorm on the receiving end, my auto was delivered within 10 minutes of the agreed on meeting time– and in perfect condition. I now know first-hand why they received the top customer evaluations–they deliver on their promises & commitments! Highly Recommend for your auto transport needs!!!”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Port Charlotte, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
