Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Pinellas Park customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I was moving from Florida to New York, and I went online, and Sherpa was in the top five. I had picked another one, but the window was too big, and Sherpa’s fits me right. The representative that set up the transport was very professional. They had to put my car on a smaller truck because of where I was located, and it was no problem. The driver brought it right in, took it off the truck, and gave me the keys. I looked around and everything was fine on the car. Everything was accurate and I`m very happy with Sherpa. I’ll use them again.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“During the transport, I didn`t hear anything from Sherpa until later that day. So, that could have been better. It would have been a little easier to have a one-day heads-up. The transport was from Florida to Oregon, which was 3,000 miles ad it took 10 days. Sherpa told me what to expect and the driver arrived earlier of their range. I was happy with Sherpa.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic.”

Car Transport Distance
Pickup and Drop Off Location

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Pinellas Park, FL significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances typically result in higher prices, but the cost per mile often decreases for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Pinellas Park. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers protection from Florida’s intense sun, occasional storms, and road debris for high-value or classic vehicles.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship due to the space and weight they occupy on the carrier. This is particularly relevant when shipping to or from Pinellas Park, as Florida’s flat terrain allows for efficient transport of various vehicle sizes.
  • Time of Year: Seasonal fluctuations affect car shipping prices in Pinellas Park. Summer months and January tend to see higher rates due to increased demand, while spring and fall may offer more competitive pricing.
  • Route Popularity: Pinellas Park’s proximity to major highways like I-275 and US-19 can lead to more competitive pricing for car shipping services due to the area’s accessibility.
  • Delivery Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower costs. However, if you need expedited shipping to or from Pinellas Park, expect to pay a premium for the quicker service.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading and unloading, increasing the overall cost of shipping to or from Pinellas Park.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping a car to or from Pinellas Park, FL. For a more detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Plan your car shipping to Pinellas Park, FL at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundled shipments along major highways like I-275 or US-19.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping services to get the lowest rates. While enclosed transport is necessary for some vehicles, open shipping offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/drop-off: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major routes in Pinellas Park. Consider areas close to Gateway Centre Blvd or Gandy Blvd for easy truck access.
  • Lighten your load: Remove personal items from your vehicle before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during auto transport.
  • Be flexible: Offer date ranges for pickup and delivery to increase your chances of finding cost-effective car shipping options. Consider allowing a few days’ buffer on either end of your preferred dates for the best rates.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, schedule your car transport to or from Pinellas Park during off-peak seasons. Avoiding Florida’s busy winter months may result in more competitive pricing for your auto shipping needs.

Pinellas Park, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Pinellas Park?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Pinellas Park. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Pinellas Park?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Pinellas Park?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Pinellas Park?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Pinellas Park

When planning car shipping to or from Pinellas Park, FL, it’s crucial to consider the unique seasonal factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Pinellas Park enjoys a subtropical climate, characterized by warm summers and mild winters. However, there are still important weather-related considerations to keep in mind.

During the summer months (June to September), Pinellas Park experiences high temperatures and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. If you’re shipping a car during this time:

  • Consider using a sunshade under your windshield to protect the interior from intense heat.
  • Remove any heat-sensitive items from your vehicle before transport.
  • Be prepared for potential delays due to thunderstorms, which can temporarily halt car transport operations.

While winters are generally mild, occasional cold fronts can bring cooler temperatures. For winter car shipping:

  • Ensure your vehicle’s antifreeze levels are adequate.
  • Remove any liquids that might freeze and expand, potentially causing damage.

Beyond weather, consider these factors when scheduling your Pinellas Park car shipping:

  • Snowbird Season: From October to April, many northerners migrate to Florida. This can increase demand for auto transport services, potentially affecting prices and availability.
  • Spring Break: March and April see an influx of visitors, which may impact local traffic and car shipping logistics.
  • Hurricane Season: June to November is hurricane season. While major storms are rare, they can disrupt car transport schedules.

To ensure a smooth car shipping experience, consider booking your auto transport during the shoulder seasons (April-May or September-October). These periods often offer more favorable rates and greater flexibility with car shipping companies. By planning ahead and considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a hassle-free experience when shipping a car to or from Pinellas Park, FL.

Reviews from our Florida Customers

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Florida customers:

“If you’ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn’t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won’t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”

“Outstanding company! I recently had death in my family and had to get my uncle’s car from Florida to Maryland. The paperwork to change ownership of the car was slow, but Sherpa Auto Transport stayed in touch with me. They called once a week to ensure me that the price we had initially agreed to would still be honored. They were very compassionate about my situation. They said as soon as I told them the car was ready, they would find a driver. Each step of the way, Sherpa Auto Transport followed up with an email. As soon as I told them the paperwork was in order, I got a call and an email within 20 minutes telling me the driver was ready to pick the car up. LMK Logistics showed up 30 minutes later. The driver was very courtesy, and I could tell he had many years of experience with loading and securing vehicles on the truck. My sister got the car within 24 hours telling her that the driver was about 30 minutes away from her home. After the car was delivered, I received another email from Sherpa Auto Transport confirming the delivery of my vehicle and to tell me that I was entitled to a free car wash on them. I have stored the name and number of this company in my phone for future reference. I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport to coordinate the move of any of your vehicles. You will not experience a better class of service. Thank you so much for easing my pain due to the death of my uncle. I will be using you and recommending you to others in the future.”

“Just used them to transport my mom’s old 1993 Del Sol from Inverness, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Created the request on Sat 7 Oct. Same day I received confirmation of the booking and price (lower than the other companies I contacted). Received an email on Sun 8 Oct that they were still searching for a driver. On Mon 9 Oct, I received an email indicating a driver was located. At 3 PM I received a call informing me the driver would like to pick up at 6 PM the same day. Wow that was quick. Driver arrived at 6:40 pm on Mon 9 Oct – first working day after my initial contact. The driver did call me directly to confirm the person she was to obtain the car from – my sister. Since the truck was so large and my Pittsburgh location is down narrow streets, I decided to change the delivery location to a barely used strip mall directly off the interstate. On Tue at 9:10 AM I texted the new location to my Sherpa contact. My Sherpa contact agreed and indicated the car should be delivered the same day. The driver did call me, 30 minutes before she expected to arrive at the strip mall parking lot. Wow by 6:30 PM on Tue 10 Oct the car was delivered in perfect condition. Seriously it could not have been easier or better service delivered. I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport!!!!”

“From the moment I contacted Sherpa Auto Transport, everything was smooth and efficient. I placed a call on Friday, had a call back by Saturday morning and transport arranged by Monday. They picked the car up in FL on Wednesday morning and we had it in San Antonio, TX on Thursday night. The driver was very responsive and courteous and his truck was immaculate. I was also extremely impressed with his driving ability. We have a sloped driveway and he maneuvered the trailer deftly right up to the garage door with literally a half inch of clearance to spare. The car arrived in the exact condition it was when it left. I have never transported a car before and to say it was a little bit daunting is an understatement. After getting the run around from another carrier, Sherpa really stepped in and made things easy. They were patient, explained the process thoroughly and answered all my questions without making me feel stupid for asking. I transported a car that was my father’s (a 1964 Porsche 356) that is very special to our family and I would trust Sherpa with it again.”

“When researching companies to ship my 2012 Kia Sorento cross country Sherpa Auto Transport stood out as exceptional–by previous customers. I subsequently chose Sherpa, and they exceeded my expectations! They tell you what to expect throughout the process, and proactively followup with you at every step. Their pricing was reasonable and I even got a promised rebate for providing certain documentation at the conclusion of the shipment. The shipment went perfectly from the advanced price quote, to auto pick up, to the final delivery. Despite a snowstorm on the receiving end, my auto was delivered within 10 minutes of the agreed on meeting time– and in perfect condition. I now know first-hand why they received the top customer evaluations–they deliver on their promises & commitments! Highly Recommend for your auto transport needs!!!”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Pinellas Park, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization.
