Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Palmetto, FL. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, as fuel and labor costs increase.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than smaller cars due to their weight and the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for shipping cars to or from Palmetto. Enclosed transport, while pricier, offers extra protection from weather and road debris, which may be beneficial during Florida’s hurricane season.
  • Time of Year: Seasonal demand affects car shipping prices in Palmetto. Summer months and January often see higher rates due to increased relocation activity and snowbird movements.
  • Route Popularity: Shipping to or from Palmetto’s urban areas or along major routes like I-75 or I-275 may be more affordable than remote locations due to higher carrier availability.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to transport as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.
  • Delivery Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower prices, while expedited shipping increases costs.

Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Palmetto, FL. For more detailed information on car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Palmetto car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling vehicles from the same area.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-75 or US-41. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall car shipping price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before transport. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about item safety during shipping.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can lead to better options and potential savings on your Palmetto auto transport.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer when demand for car shipping services is high. Planning your transport during off-peak times may result in more competitive rates.

Vehicle Transport Registration

When planning your move to or from Palmetto, FL, it’s crucial to understand the local vehicle requirements and regulations. For those using car shipping services to transport their vehicle, there are several important factors to consider.

First, Florida doesn’t require vehicle inspections, which simplifies the process for new residents. However, you’ll need to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency. To do this, visit the Manatee County Tax Collector’s office in Palmetto.

If you’re using toll roads, consider removing your current toll transponder before shipping your car. Florida uses SunPass for toll collection, so you may want to sign up for an account upon arrival. This can save you money on tolls throughout the state.

Palmetto’s climate is hot and humid, so when your car arrives, check its air conditioning system and consider applying a UV-protective coating to prevent sun damage.

For general moving tips, here are some key tasks:

  • Set up utilities: Contact Florida Power & Light for electricity and Manatee County Utilities for water service.
  • Internet providers: Options include Spectrum and Frontier.
  • Register to vote at the Supervisor of Elections office.
  • Enroll children in Manatee County Schools.
  • Get a library card at the Palmetto Branch Library.

If you’re moving away from Palmetto, remember to cancel local memberships, forward your mail, and notify relevant parties of your address change.

By considering these factors and using a reliable car shipping company, your move to or from Palmetto, FL can be smooth and stress-free. Whether you’re shipping a car or driving it yourself, being prepared will make your transition to the Sunshine State much easier.

Palmetto, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Palmetto?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Palmetto. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Palmetto?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Palmetto?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Palmetto?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Palmetto

When planning car shipping to or from Palmetto, FL, it’s crucial to consider the seasonal climate factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Palmetto’s subtropical climate brings hot, humid summers and mild winters, which can affect your car shipping process in several ways.

During the summer months (June through September), temperatures in Palmetto can soar. If you’re shipping a car during this time, consider these tips:

  • Place a sunshade under your car’s windshield to protect the interior from excessive heat.
  • Remove any heat-sensitive items from your vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
  • Schedule your car transport for early morning or evening to avoid peak heat hours.

While Palmetto doesn’t experience harsh winters, the area can see occasional cold snaps. If you’re using car shipping services during winter months:

  • Ensure your vehicle’s antifreeze levels are appropriate for colder temperatures.
  • Remove any liquids that might freeze and potentially damage your car during transport.

It’s also important to note that Palmetto’s location in Florida makes it susceptible to hurricane season (June through November). When planning to ship a car during these months:

  • Stay informed about weather forecasts and potential storms.
  • Be flexible with your shipping dates, as severe weather may cause delays.
  • Choose a reputable car shipping company with experience navigating Florida’s weather challenges.

Lastly, consider the seasonal influx of tourists and snowbirds to the area. Palmetto car shipping services may be in higher demand during winter months when northern residents seek warmer climates. To ensure smooth auto transport, book your car shipment well in advance during these peak times or consider scheduling your move during the less busy shoulder seasons of spring or fall.

“My fiancée is a wizard when it comes to doing her due diligence and finding the best companies and reading reviews. I asked her to pull her magic and let me know what she thought, and Sherpa was in the top five transport companies and were actually the first ones to answer the phone or respond to my call. Joseph was the gentleman that I talked to. He was very professional and friendly. He made me feel very comfortable with using the company to broker the deal for me. Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic. We got that place lined up. It was a few miles away from my house. They called me numerous times when they were on the way and got there. The car was dirty, but I expected it to be. It was raining and it was an open truck. But other than that, no damage to the vehicle. The brothers were incredibly friendly and professional people that if I had to use anybody again, I would recommend them and Sherpa. I was very worried throughout the process because I have never purchased a vehicle that I have never seen before, or even driven or heard it idle. They got it to me and it was in good shape. And everything was good. I enjoyed it. Plus they were cool. They had a very exotic, classic car on the truck and they had to offload it to get my car off. They opened the doors and let me peek my head in and take a look at it, and I drooled a bit at how cool the car was. Sherpa`s quote was better than anything that I had received other than ones that were scams. I`ve never done this before. I just signed up online and I was hammered with emails and phone calls from a lot of people that were trying to, “Oh, I`ll beat this price. I`ll do this price.†And I was getting quotes that seemed too good to be true, and they were, because once I went and got my fiancée to do her magic and look these particular companies up, she was like, “Yeah, that`s gonna be a no. Each one of those has terrible reviews and they`re scams.†Because they quoted me 500 bucks, $600, that type of stuff. What Sherpa quoted me wasn`t gonna fluctuate. If it did, they would apply money towards it if need be. It was right on the money. The transport was part of my car purcahsing process that was the fastest, streamlined and very much worth the money that I paid for.”

“The initial quote was more than reasonable given the short turnaround time that I needed. In my uncle`s shipping, Sherpa had to use their guaranteed thing. It`s $300 give or take once they issued the quote to the customer. I contacted them on a Thursday or Friday of the week before and they went through the weekend and they let me know that they would be closing down Saturday evening. My uncle was a little worried and I told him that the people have to have downtime and we`d hear from them by Sunday evening. Sure enough, around 7:00 in the evening, an email came across saying that they were still working on getting the driver. Having dealt with car transport before, they`re all on the same leaderboard. Once the car description is put in, everybody`s looking at it and they know exactly who`s been selected and it doesn`t pay to jump around. The pickup was in a rural part of Florida and I was concerned that it was off of a major highway. But that didn`t make a difference. Once they made their commitment that they would pick up the car around 4:00 on that Wednesday, they were there on point. We were able to put a few boxes in the car that I would have had to pay UPS or ship my uncle`s personal things. But I made sure that there was no obstruction of view and the front seat was completely clear of anything. They exceeded the expectations in terms of delivery. We weren`t expecting it until Saturday or Sunday. But they were there before 4:00 on that Friday, which would have been the 27th of August. When they called me, I was at the gas station in Orlando. My uncle was at his home in Live Oak. Once the guy told me what the deposit was going to be because that had changed, I said, “Give me five minutes to call my uncle and let him know that you`re going to be calling him and give him your name because he`ll be giving you his financial information for payment.” He did that and he had cash available to pay them when the car dropped. Also, my uncle placed the Bible on the dash of his vehicle and he told me that the service was so good that the Bible was in the exact same spot when the car arrived. They took pictures and there were no scratches, no dents, and no oil leaks from other cars. They couldn`t have made my uncle happier. Sherpa would be number one on my list without a question and I would recommend them.”

“If you`ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn`t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won`t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”

“Sherpa is very reliable and honest. They`ll take care of your car as their own. I like their fixed rate guarantee. I was afraid that once I commit to the other companies and once the driver came to pick up my car, they`d charge up additional fees and I wouldn`t be able to refuse because I got my flight already scheduled. During the pickup, the driver called me up and told me that his truck wouldn`t be able to go inside my apartment complex. We agreed to meet up somewhere very near that was also convenient on his part. I had some luggage inside the car and he didn`t charge me extra for that. He updated me every time during the transport. He even made sure that my bumper won`t be blown away because it was a little bit wiggly. He put a tape on it and made sure that everything would be fine. During the delivery, he texted me three hours before he arrived here. He told me that his truck wouldn`t be able to enter our neighborhood because the streets were a little bit narrow. Again, we agreed to meet up somewhere that was very convenient with his truck. It`s only five-minute walk from my house.”

“Just used them to transport my mom`s old 1993 Del Sol from Inverness, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Created the request on Sat 7 Oct. Same day I received confirmation of the booking and price (lower than the other companies I contacted). Received an email on Sun 8 Oct that they were still searching for a driver. On Mon 9 Oct, I received an email indicating a driver was located. At 3 PM I received a call informing me the driver would like to pick up at 6 PM the same day. Wow that was quick. Driver arrived at 6:40 pm on Mon 9 Oct – first working day after my initial contact. The driver did call me directly to confirm the person she was to obtain the car from – my sister. Since the truck was so large and my Pittsburgh location is down narrow streets, I decided to change the delivery location to a barely used strip mall directly off the interstate. On Tue at 9:10 AM I texted the new location to my Sherpa contact. My Sherpa contact agreed and indicated the car should be delivered the same day. The driver did call me, 30 minutes before she expected to arrive at the strip mall parking lot. Wow by 6:30 PM on Tue 10 Oct the car was delivered in perfect condition. Seriously it could not have been easier or better service delivered. I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport!!!!”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Palmetto, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping
