Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.

  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Palm Coast car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Open car shipping is generally more affordable than enclosed transport. It offers greater flexibility and helps negotiate lower rates for your auto transport needs.
  • Consider location: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find pickup/dropoff points near major highways like I-95, which runs close to Palm Coast. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your car shipping price.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and liability, potentially lowering your auto transport cost.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Palm Coast car shipping. Consider a range of dates rather than a specific day to increase your options.
  • Opt for off-peak seasons: If possible, schedule your car transport during less busy times. Avoiding peak moving seasons can often result in more competitive pricing for shipping a car to or from Palm Coast, FL.

When planning your car shipping to or from Palm Coast, FL, it’s crucial to consider local regulations and practical aspects of moving. For vehicle-specific requirements, Florida doesn’t mandate vehicle inspections, but it’s wise to ensure your car is in good condition before transport. If you’re moving to Palm Coast, you’ll need to register your vehicle within 30 days. The process involves providing proof of insurance, title, and identification at a local DMV office.

Palm Coast utilizes the SunPass system for tolls. If you’re relocating from Palm Coast, remember to remove your transponder to avoid unexpected charges during auto transport. For those moving to the area, consider acquiring a SunPass for convenient travel on Florida’s toll roads.

Palm Coast, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Palm Coast?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Palm Coast. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Palm Coast?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Palm Coast?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Palm Coast?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Reviews from our Florida Customers

“Our daughter was moving from Florida to California for a transfer with her job and she needed to ship a 2010 Toyota RAV4. She looked at a few transport companies online and contacted one company. They took a deposit and sent the contract. But we didn’t like the terms of their contract at all and they didn’t have a very good rating on the Better Business Bureau. Then, we found Sherpa and we went with them. We’re very happy with our experience from start to finish. Their name is very cool and certainly good marketing on their part because it’s easy to remember. The customer service rep we had answered very quickly and explained the whole process. He told us a little bit about how the industry works and a little bit about how we don’t pay a deposit until we see the contract. The contract was just attached to the quote so we could take a look at the whole thing and see what we were getting into. Then we called back and told them to go ahead and look for a driver for us. It was a very easy transaction and their people were very good to talk to. They didn’t pester us, they told us what we needed to know, and were very professional. The cost was slightly higher but we liked their betting process. We felt like we were probably going to get a better-quality driver with valid insurance so to us, it was worth a little bit more money. It was certainly something we could live with because we would then have an assurance that we were getting somebody who we really wanted to trust our car to. And the terms of the contract were quite reasonable, especially compared to the other one we looked at before. We were working under a pretty tight deadline around the holidays, so we were concerned that things might be delayed. But Sherpa found someone and about half an hour later, we were meeting with the driver to drop the car off. Sherpa had to pay a free-hand to get someone to do the transport but they didn’t pass the cost on to us, which was very wonderful. The driver was very reputable and he was taking a lot of care documenting the car`s condition before it got on the truck. Also, the route from Florida to California was the only run that he did, so that made us feel better. We met him again with our daughter on the other end and he was very professional as well. He delivered the car right on time and very close to our daughter`s apartment. Everything was perfect. We would use Sherpa again and we would recommend them.”

“I needed to send a car from California to my daughter in New York. I looked at about 3 companies and went with Sherpa because the reviews were good. I liked the price-lock guarantee and that’s the main reason I went with them. The driver was supposed to pick up the car at my apartment in San Francisco. He said he couldn’t come to San Francisco because of the size of his truck so I had to go meet him at a truck stop outside San Francisco. I got there about 15 minutes before he got there. There was somebody else waiting for him, and they needed to have their car moved, too. So, he attended to them, and after that he attended to me. He was a nice guy. The car got to New York earlier. They couldn’t go to Staten Island and said they would meet my daughter at Newark. My daughter went there at the time the driver said he was gonna be there but he did not show up. She ended up waiting at the mall for almost 4 hours and missed class before the driver finally showed up. Their cost was expensive, but Sherpa did it. I may have gotten it cheaper somewhere else. As a matter of fact, I had moved a car from Denver to Indiana. I used a company somewhere in Florida, and I was very happy with that. I had wanted to use them this time and I called them. They gave me a cheaper quote than Sherpa. They had the vehicle for two weeks, but they couldn’t find a driver. In the car-moving business, most of them will give you a quote and tell you that first of all, the time and the price are not guaranteed. It’s all within a framework. If they had told me, “Hey, he’s not gonna come to your apartment in San Francisco,†I would understand that. If they had told me that, “Hey, he’s not gonna to Staten Island,†I would understand that too. But the rep at Sherpa answered all my questions. He sent me a quote which I reviewed and liked. It took me some time to get back to him, but the book was guaranteed. The carrier ended up charging more and Sherpa did not charge me anymore. I did not pay anything upfront and Sherpa just dealt with the carrier directly. That was very honorable of them. On top of that, they gave me a rebate because I’m a civil servant and my daughter is a student. I got $100 Visa gift card sent to me after the fact. I would use Sherpa again. They were all good. They were better than anybody else that I had talked to. In fact, I was gonna use them again for another car but we ended up not moving the car.”

“My daughter needed to bring her car to Florida for the Disney College Program. We were looking at Montway and I felt they were giving me the runaround. But Sherpa was number two on the list of the top five and I called them because I found Montway not being very accommodating. They couldn`t guarantee that my daughter`s car was gonna be there when I needed it there. And for them to pick it up, they wanted an extra $400. I also ended up looking at reviews and Montway got some nasty ones. Sherpa pretty much gave me the quote the first night I talked to them, but they kept the deliveries very close to the vest. We kept getting closer and closer to my date that I felt was the drop-dead date to pick up, but the guy was very reassuring. He kept saying not to worry and that they were working on it. He said that it takes them time to do things and that they haven`t secured a driver yet, but we were not being left hanging. But he wasn`t sarcastic, relaxed, or used any sort of condescending tone. Still, I was getting nervous because I wanted everything to happen the way it did. But the guy we dealt with was really good. His name was John from Christian Auto and he kept us in the loop the whole time as far as when his driver was gonna be picking up the vehicle on Thursday morning. He called us the night before saying that the driver was gonna be picking it up around 7:30 and he was 15 minutes early the next day. Then he put the car on, took his pictures, and left. My daughter and wife arrived on Saturday night and he was there at seven o`clock that Sunday morning. The car arrived dirty, but that was a by-product of the trip. No big deal. Everybody was happy and my wife and daughter did what they needed to do. I was very impressed and happy with Sherpa. They did what they had to do. In fact, I should`ve called them again. The Disney College Program was canceled due to the virus, so I`m leaving for Florida tomorrow to drive the car back myself and I really don`t wanna drive it back myself. But all of this happened on Saturday and we had to make it happen because my daughter has to be physically off the property tomorrow. I would`ve liked to retain Sherpa, but I didn`t think I had enough time to secure a driver and I didn`t feel like spending 1,000 bucks either.”

“I needed to ship a car from New Hampshire to Florida and I called Sherpa Auto Transport in a panic on a Monday and their reps were phenomenal. They were professional and they understood my worries and the timeline that I needed. They answered all my questions too. They had my car picked up by Wednesday with the company that worked unbelievably well in regards to communication. I’ve shipped many cars over the last five years and this was by far the best experience I’ve had. I wasn’t comfortable with pretty much any of the other companies I’ve used but with Sherpa, I had the confidence that my car was gonna arrive and I was gonna be kept informed of the progress of when I should receive my car. I wish I had found Sherpa years ago so it would’ve saved me a lot of gray hairs. Sherpa was a little more expensive than past years but it was also a busy season in regard to going from where we were getting the car picked up and where it was being delivered to, so I wasn’t overly surprised by the quote. The shipment was actually done a lot faster in regards to pick-up because they had it picked up on Wednesday which I was extremely happy with and then the delivery was within the time span of what I had anticipated. The vehicle was delivered in 5 days. If I do need to ship another car, I will definitely be reaching out to them. They were fantastic to work with and I didn’t have to worry about anything. If you need to ship a car, reach out to them before you call anyone else.”

“I was relocating to another state and I was under a constrained timeline so I had to make any commitment pretty quickly. I just Google-searched and Sherpa Auto Transport had decent reviews online. They quoted a fair price too. Those were good enough for me and they didn`t fall short of my expectations either. I would recommend them. I was shipping my Honda Odyssey close to 2,000 miles, all the way from New Mexico to Florida. And Tim went over the details of whether it was gonna be a close or open transport. At that time, I didn`t have a final destination because I needed to find a house out here first. So Tim just gave me an estimate based on the approximation where I would be relocating to. Then as it got closer to the time for pick-up, he followed up and let me know who would actually be delivering my vehicle. Then he also requested an update on the destination. The driver dropped my vehicle off right in front of my house at around 8:00 PM. It was the last stop on his route, coming back up `cause he went all the way down to Miami and came back up. But it was good. He walked me around the vehicle to double-check and make sure that I didn`t see any damages. It arrived intact and as it left, and the final cost ended up being about the same as the quote.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Palm Coast, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  1. The first semi-truck was invented in 1898 by Alexander Winton to transport cars from his Cleveland-based Winton Motor Carriage Company. He wanted a way to deliver cars to customers without adding miles to the vehicles. [Source: Institute for Transportation, Iowa State University]
  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
