Factors that affect Melbourne Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The journey length significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Melbourne, FL. Longer distances typically mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
- Transport Type: Open trailers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to Melbourne. Enclosed carriers offer extra protection but cost about 50% more and may have longer delivery times.
- Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, like SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship to Melbourne due to the space and weight they occupy on the carrier.
- Route Popularity: Melbourne’s location near I-95 can affect pricing. More frequent routes often have competitive rates, while less common destinations may cost more.
- Seasonal Factors: Melbourne’s warm climate attracts snowbirds, potentially increasing demand and prices for car shipping during winter months. Hurricane season (June to November) may also impact scheduling and costs.
- Delivery Timeframe: Expedited shipping to Melbourne costs more. Flexible pickup and delivery dates can help reduce your auto transport expenses.
- Vehicle Condition: Inoperable vehicles cost more to ship to Melbourne as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.
Understanding these factors can help you plan your car shipping to or from Melbourne, FL more effectively. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Melbourne car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially bundle your vehicle with others, increasing the chances of a lower rate.
- Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping for the most cost-effective option. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers greater flexibility and lower prices.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-95 or FL-528. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your overall car transport price.
- Lighten your load: Remove all personal items from your vehicle before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues for the auto transport company.
- Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your car shipping services. Consider a range of dates rather than a specific day to increase your options.
- Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer for your Melbourne, FL car transport. Off-peak times often offer more competitive rates for shipping a car.

Reviews from our Florida Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Florida customers:
“Spoke with Josh and decided even though he was the first of many I could have called I would go with his company. First off he spoke English with no accent which to my ears was a blessing. `Over time I spoke with him about concerns which arose from a husband who had a stroke and was nervous about things, Josh was very understanding, and once I spoke to another associate he was pleasant as well, I would give the name to all that would ask for a good broker for any one looking to ship their car. The transport driver was also very pleasant. Flaviu was great.”
“I am really happy and satisfied with Sherpa. It was a smooth transaction. The driver was on time and I am really happy with Sherpa did great in finding the driver right away. Everything is good. They`re very prompt.”
“Dylan, the guy from Sherpa, told me about how auto shipping works and how they do things. He was honest with telling me everything and one thing I liked about it is it wasn’t some way somewhere else to have to get the car from Florida. I live in Charlotte and Sherpa is in Charlotte. At least they are local. I worked with somebody else and didn’t get Dylan but both of them were very good and knowledgeable, which is what I liked about Sherpa and I have referred them. The transport was from Gainesville, Florida to Charlotte and it took about seven hours. And with regards to cost, everything stayed the same. The driver was nice and let me know when he was there. He had to park the vehicle up on the street and then drive the car down in the neighborhood, which is fine. And he got here with that time he told me he would. He called me said it’s not going to be 9:00 and it’s probably more like 11:00. He probably got caught in traffic but he communicated with me along the way. There were no scratches on the car so everything went good.”
“If you’ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn’t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won’t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”
“Sherpa was very quick, concise, and thorough. All I did was put where I was leaving from, what type and make and model of my car is, and where it was heading towards. The people I talked to made everything else happen for me. I had a couple of specific questions ’cause I’m a little more meticulous when it comes to things that I do. They were very patient and quick to get things done for me. They also honored their quote that they initially gave me. They were able to hold on to the quote a little longer than the promised day. Not only did they do what they promised, but they also did a little extra. It was perfect. The communication was amazing. I was supposed to ship my car some time this week, but emergency came up and I had to ship it early for my girlfriend out in Florida to use my car. I called them and the rep was able to get my car picked up two weeks early. She told me there wasn’t an extra charge. I kept calling her three more times afterward to keep coordinating with her. She was pleasant and more than willing to help.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Melbourne, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
