Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs Icon

Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

My sister got the car within 24 hours telling her that the driver was about 30 minutes away from her home in Florida.”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey affects car shipping costs to and from Lauderhill, FL. Longer distances typically result in higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open auto transport is the most common and affordable option for shipping cars to Lauderhill. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from Florida’s frequent rain and occasional tropical storms.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship to Lauderhill due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Route Popularity: Lauderhill’s proximity to major highways like I-95 and I-75 can help reduce shipping costs, as carriers frequently travel these routes.
  • Seasonal Factors: Auto transport to Lauderhill may be pricier during winter months when snowbirds flock to Florida, increasing demand for car shipping services.
  • Delivery Timeframe: Opting for a flexible pickup window can lower your car shipping costs to Lauderhill. Rush or guaranteed delivery dates typically come at a premium.
  • Vehicle Condition: Inoperable vehicles cost more to ship to Lauderhill, as they require special equipment for loading and unloading.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your car shipment at least two weeks in advance. This increases the chances of carriers bundling your vehicle with others in Lauderhill, FL, potentially lowering costs.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and greatest flexibility for negotiating prices. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport is the most cost-effective option for most car shipping needs.
  • Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa advisers to find convenient locations near major interstates like I-95 or Florida’s Turnpike. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall car shipping expense.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove all personal items from your car before transport. This reduces weight and eliminates potential liability issues during the auto transport process.
  • Be flexible with dates: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better options and potentially lower rates for your car shipping needs in Lauderhill, FL.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak seasons for auto transport to and from Florida. Winter months tend to be busier due to snowbirds relocating, which can impact car shipping prices.

Lauderhill, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Lauderhill?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Lauderhill. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Lauderhill?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Lauderhill?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Lauderhill?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Lauderhill

When planning car shipping to or from Lauderhill, FL, it’s crucial to consider the unique climate and seasonal factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Lauderhill experiences a tropical rainforest climate, characterized by hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Here are some key considerations for scheduling your car shipping services in this area:

1. Hurricane Season: From June to November, Lauderhill is vulnerable to hurricanes. If you’re planning to ship a car during this period, be prepared for potential delays or rescheduling due to severe weather. It’s advisable to work closely with your car shipping company to stay informed about any weather-related changes.

2. Rainy Season: May through October marks the rainy season in Lauderhill. When shipping a car, ensure that your vehicle is properly sealed to prevent water damage. Also, consider choosing covered auto transport options for added protection.

3. Heat Precautions: Lauderhill’s year-round warm climate means your car may be exposed to high temperatures during transport. Use a sunshade for your car’s interior and remove any heat-sensitive items before shipping. This is especially important if you’re using open car transport services.

4. Snowbird Season: From November to April, Lauderhill sees an influx of winter residents. This can lead to increased demand for car shipping services. To avoid peak pricing and ensure availability, consider scheduling your Lauderhill car shipping a few weeks before or after the main snowbird migration.

5. Holiday Traffic: Major holidays can affect auto transport schedules and prices. If possible, avoid shipping during peak holiday periods to ensure smoother and potentially more cost-effective service.

By keeping these factors in mind, you can better plan your car shipping to or from Lauderhill, FL. Always consult with your chosen auto transport provider for the most up-to-date advice and to ensure a smooth shipping experience tailored to Lauderhill’s unique climate and seasonal patterns.

“I bought a car out of state and I looked at over 25 different companies to transport it. I went with Sherpa because of the rebate they had and they weren`t harassing me. Other companies were blowing up my email box. Still, was able to get someone right away at Sherpa and she gave me a quick rate. Thereafter Sherpa was able to do the pickup really quick. They didn`t delay and weren`t trying to load up a whole bunch of cars. I had them transport a Dodge Challenger from Fort Lauderdale to Georgia to Atlanta. The driver brought the vehicle to my location and unloaded it. Initially, he was going to pick it up, but he noticed something wasn`t right on the vehicle. He called me and let me know that he could still bring it or he could not bring it. He turned around and picked it up for me. He let me know before he brought it up here and I was surprised. He also gave me the bill of lading with all the information on it. Everything was easy and paperless via email and it was a smooth transaction. The driver also let me check out the car. He showed me little marks that he had seen and noticed before transporting that he told me and took pictures of. He took pictures as he was loading and before he loaded, and sent them to me. He took every angle and took pictures of it on his truck, and it was good. Also, the quote given by Sherpa was reasonable. It wasn`t too low like I wanted it, but it was also not too high either, which made me feel like it was safe. In the end, it was a 100% accurate.”

“I was moving to Seattle and I needed to ship my vehicle, an Audi A4. I looked at around five different transport companies, but Sherpa Auto Transport was recommended by a friend. The quote that was provided to me by Sherpa was reasonable. It was up to the par or quite equal to the other quotes. The customer service at Sherpa went as smoothly as it could. There were a couple of times when the driver was not picking up my calls. I called customer service and they were able to retrieve information from him, like where he was because the driver promised me around three times that he would be there. He may have been so close somewhere, but he didn`t want to take my calls. Also, the delivery was 14 days late and I started with my new company on the same day it came in. He said that he was going in two hours, but I was in an orientation that day and I was not able to get out, so I called up my brother who missed his office for half a day to pick that car up. The driver was very unreasonable. He said that he was going to Oregon the next day and if I didn`t pick up that day, then I might have to pick it up the next week. The car was dirty at the time of delivery and my brother was trying to find many scratches, but the truck driver wanted to go as fast as he could. He said that it was time to go and that if my brother could get the car clean that day, then let him know if there were any scratches. Overall, there was no damage, so that was good. I just didn`t like the transporter, the one who drove the vehicle, but I`ll definitely recommend Sherpa.”

“Sherpa’s price lock promise was really good. I didn`t have to go back in my pocket after they called me. Customer service was very mannerable, helpful, and apologetic when it looked like it wasn`t gonna work out. They wanted to make sure I got what I wanted. I started driving before the driver could pick up my vehicle. That worked out. They stayed in touch with my parents who were the ones that were gonna hand off my vehicle. The truck couldn’t come down the street. They weren`t sure about the address so this one guy walked through wherever he thought it was. It was very impressive. It was almost a mile away. They picked up the car and they did their paperwork. It was in very clean and nice condition. The delivery of my baby SUV was faster than I expected. The transport took three days and that exceeded my expectations. The guy called the very next day after I got here. I knew that they were going to be here an hour before. They got my car right to the address where I live. The transport was an open one and I was very impressed. I didn’t have to use the Sherpa carwash thing.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I was moving cross-country, so I needed a transport service to ship my vehicle. I looked at four transport companies and I went with Sherpa Auto Transport because of their reviews and their responsiveness when I called them. I enjoyed the fact that the reps answered right away. They got back to me when they said they would and kept me fully informed of how everything was going to work. They were really clear upfront that Sherpa was just the broker or the agency and not the company that was gonna do the transport. They were gonna use a company that they had worked with in the past and this company was gonna transport for them. As soon as they secured this company, they called me immediately to let me know that they had made contact with the company and they were ready to schedule the pickup. This process went smoothly. The quote that was provided by Sherpa was around the same price and within the ballpark of everything else that I was getting. Their quote was reasonable, especially for a covered transport. They put me in touch with the driver and the driver contacted me when he was getting close. I was in an apartment complex so he had to park outside on the main road where there was a parking area, and I brought my car out to them. They had other vehicles and they put mine in all the way up to the front because it was gonna be the last one they would offload. They took care of everything and the transport went really well. The driver was more comfortable speaking in Spanish than in English. Although I would have easily conducted business with him even if I didn`t speak Spanish, it went easier since I did, so my communication with him was good. Sherpa transported my vehicle 3,000 miles from LA to Miami and they were great and easy to work with.”

Consumer Affairs

“I purchased a vehicle that was located in Florida and I`m located in Connecticut. So, I needed to transport the vehicle. I went online and Googled transportation companies. For the most part, choosing Sherpa had to do with the reviews that I was seeing on Google. They were good. I dealt with three people and everybody was very professional. They gave me a price right up front and there weren’t any shenanigans. As it turned out, I was able to even get a $100 rebate on my original price because I asked them. So that was great, too. There were no changes in the price once it was set up. They put it on the board and within an hour or two, it was accepted. The final company that picked it up got in touch with me and it all went very smoothly. The driver was concerned about getting into the development where I live and having so many cobblestones because it`s a tractor trailer. But he did a very good job. He contacted me before he got here and to let me know he was an hour away. Sherpa did a nice job photographing the vehicle and they picked it up down in Florida. They took all the pictures of any kind of dings or scratches. The only thing that I would suggest is that they allow you to see that on the bill of lading before they get here. I didn`t get a bill of lading until the driver showed up and he took pictures of the car after he took it off the trailer. Then, that was added to the bill of lading. I would have liked to have seen that before I accepted delivery of the vehicle. I had to give the driver a check for 500 bucks when he took the vehicle off the trailer but there was no way for me to look at the car. It meant that I would have to go back to them. You couldn`t do that right when he took the car off the trailer. But the bill of lading was sent to me immediately after he took the pictures and I signed for it. It was right in my email immediately, so that was good. Everything was very smooth with my experience with Sherpa and the car even got here a day early.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Lauderhill, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
  6. Auto transport trucks can have fuel tanks that hold up to 300 gallons of diesel, allowing them to travel over 2,000 miles without needing to refuel. This is crucial for long-haul routes, ensuring continuous operation with minimal stops. [Source: Diesel Technology Forum]
  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel.
