Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs Icon

Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Lauderhill customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“It didn’t take me too long to get my date I wanted to sent my car from Crestview, Florida to Denver Colorado. I gave Shane the date May 23rd I asked for and the driver arrived on that day I asked for. The dispatcher from the company assigned for me were incredible, the lady dispatcher were on top of informing me on date when the driver will come to pick my car.”

Google
★★★★★

“I had a positive experience with Sherpa. If you are using a transport company please go into it knowing that it is a very aggressive industry. To get a quote you are required to provide your phone number and the various brokers, including Sherpa, will call and/or repeatedly until you tell them you’ve gone with someone else. Please also understand that these are brokers and not truckers.”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey from or to Lauderhill, FL significantly impacts car shipping costs. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but the cost per mile often decreases for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for car shipping to or from Lauderhill. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from Florida’s intense sun, occasional tropical storms, and road debris.
  • Vehicle Size: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than smaller cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Seasonal Factors: Lauderhill’s warm climate makes it a popular destination year-round, but shipping costs may increase during peak seasons like summer or winter holidays when demand is higher.
  • Route Accessibility: Lauderhill’s proximity to major highways like I-95 and the Florida Turnpike can help keep costs down, as these routes are easily accessible for auto transport carriers.
  • Delivery Timeframe: Opting for a flexible pickup window can result in lower costs compared to expedited shipping options.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are less expensive to ship than inoperable ones, as the latter require special equipment for loading and unloading.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Lauderhill car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.

  • Optimize pickup/dropoff locations: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-95 or Florida’s Turnpike. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers, potentially lowering your overall car shipping price.
  • Remove personal items: Empty your vehicle before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates concerns about personal property during transport.
  • Be flexible with dates: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Lauderhill car transport. Carriers may offer discounts for shipments that fit well into their existing schedules.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak seasons like summer and holidays when demand for auto transport in Lauderhill, FL is highest. Off-peak shipping can often result in more competitive pricing.

Lauderhill, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Lauderhill?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Lauderhill. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Lauderhill?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Lauderhill?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Lauderhill?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Lauderhill

When planning car shipping to or from Lauderhill, FL, it’s crucial to consider the unique climate and seasonal factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Lauderhill’s subtropical climate brings hot, humid summers and mild winters, which can affect your car shipping strategy.

During the summer months (June to September), temperatures in Lauderhill can soar. If you’re shipping a car during this time:

  • Consider placing a sunshade under your windshield to protect the interior from intense heat.
  • Remove any heat-sensitive items from your vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
  • Be aware that car transport companies may experience higher demand due to summer moves.

The winter months (December to February) in Lauderhill are mild, but it’s still important to prepare:

  • While snow tires aren’t necessary, ensure your vehicle has good all-season tires for safe loading and unloading.
  • Be mindful of the occasional cold snap – remove any liquids that might freeze from your car.

Lauderhill’s location in South Florida makes it a popular destination for snowbirds. This means:

  • Car shipping services may be in higher demand from October to April.
  • Book your auto transport well in advance during these months to secure your preferred dates.
  • Consider scheduling your car transport just before or after peak snowbird season for potentially better rates.

Lastly, be aware of Lauderhill’s rainy season (May to October). While this shouldn’t significantly impact your car shipping plans, it’s wise to:

  • Ensure your vehicle is water-tight to prevent any moisture damage during transport.
  • Be flexible with pickup and delivery times, as heavy rains can occasionally cause slight delays.

By considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smooth and efficient car shipping experience to or from Lauderhill, FL.

Reviews from our Florida Customers

We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Florida customers:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I bought a car out of state and I looked at over 25 different companies to transport it. I went with Sherpa because of the rebate they had and they weren’t harassing me. Other companies were blowing up my email box. Still, was able to get someone right away at Sherpa and she gave me a quick rate. Thereafter Sherpa was able to do the pickup really quick. They didn’t delay and weren’t trying to load up a whole bunch of cars. I had them transport a Dodge Challenger from Fort Lauderdale to Georgia to Atlanta. The driver brought the vehicle to my location and unloaded it. Initially, he was going to pick it up, but he noticed something wasn’t right on the vehicle. He called me and let me know that he could still bring it or he could not bring it. He turned around and picked it up for me. He let me know before he brought it up here and I was surprised. He also gave me the bill of lading with all the information on it. Everything was easy and paperless via email and it was a smooth transaction. The driver also let me check out the car. He showed me little marks that he had seen and noticed before transporting that he told me and took pictures of. He took pictures as he was loading and before he loaded, and sent them to me. He took every angle and took pictures of it on his truck, and it was good. Also, the quote given by Sherpa was reasonable. It wasn’t too low like I wanted it, but it was also not too high either, which made me feel like it was safe. In the end, it was a 100% accurate.”

“I was moving cross-country, so I needed a transport service to ship my vehicle. I looked at four transport companies and I went with Sherpa Auto Transport because of their reviews and their responsiveness when I called them. I enjoyed the fact that the reps answered right away. They got back to me when they said they would and kept me fully informed of how everything was going to work. They were really clear upfront that Sherpa was just the broker or the agency and not the company that was gonna do the transport. They were gonna use a company that they had worked with in the past and this company was gonna transport for them. As soon as they secured this company, they called me immediately to let me know that they had made contact with the company and they were ready to schedule the pickup. This process went smoothly. The quote that was provided by Sherpa was around the same price and within the ballpark of everything else that I was getting. Their quote was reasonable, especially for a covered transport. They put me in touch with the driver and the driver contacted me when he was getting close. I was in an apartment complex so he had to park outside on the main road where there was a parking area, and I brought my car out to them. They had other vehicles and they put mine in all the way up to the front because it was gonna be the last one they would offload. They took care of everything and the transport went really well. The driver was more comfortable speaking in Spanish than in English. Although I would have easily conducted business with him even if I didn’t speak Spanish, it went easier since I did, so my communication with him was good. Sherpa transported my vehicle 3,000 miles from LA to Miami and they were great and easy to work with.”

“I was moving to Seattle and I needed to ship my vehicle, an Audi A4. I looked at around five different transport companies, but Sherpa Auto Transport was recommended by a friend. The quote that was provided to me by Sherpa was reasonable. It was up to the par or quite equal to the other quotes. The customer service at Sherpa went as smoothly as it could. There were a couple of times when the driver was not picking up my calls. I called customer service and they were able to retrieve information from him, like where he was because the driver promised me around three times that he would be there. He may have been so close somewhere, but he didn’t want to take my calls. Also, the delivery was 14 days late and I started with my new company on the same day it came in. He said that he was going in two hours, but I was in an orientation that day and I was not able to get out, so I called up my brother who missed his office for half a day to pick that car up. The driver was very unreasonable. He said that he was going to Oregon the next day and if I didn’t pick up that day, then I might have to pick it up the next week. The car was dirty at the time of delivery and my brother was trying to find many scratches, but the truck driver wanted to go as fast as he could. He said that it was time to go and that if my brother could get the car clean that day, then let him know if there were any scratches. Overall, there was no damage, so that was good. I just didn’t like the transporter, the one who drove the vehicle, but I’ll definitely recommend Sherpa.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa is very reliable and honest. They’ll take care of your car as their own. I like their fixed rate guarantee. I was afraid that once I commit to the other companies and once the driver came to pick up my car, they’d charge up additional fees and I wouldn’t be able to refuse because I got my flight already scheduled. During the pickup, the driver called me up and told me that his truck wouldn’t be able to go inside my apartment complex. We agreed to meet up somewhere very near that was also convenient on his part. I had some luggage inside the car and he didn’t charge me extra for that. He updated me every time during the transport. He even made sure that my bumper won’t be blown away because it was a little bit wiggly. He put a tape on it and made sure that everything would be fine. During the delivery, he texted me three hours before he arrived here. He told me that his truck wouldn’t be able to enter our neighborhood because the streets were a little bit narrow. Again, we agreed to meet up somewhere that was very convenient with his truck. It’s only five-minute walk from my house.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“I had a four-door Jeep Wrangler transported from Florida to Arizona. Sherpa was very customer-service-oriented when I spoke with them. The reviews about the company really swayed me to use their service. The gal that helped me was personable and explained things well. The price lock option was very nice and I liked that. It was very helpful. Also, the final cost was reasonable. I had one other company that was a little less expensive and the service was great. But I wanted to go with someone I felt more comfortable with. The only thing is they don’t give you an idea of who’s gonna be picking up the car until the last minute. It’s a little scary waiting until the last minute to know for sure if they’re gonna pick it up. But that’s just how the industry works. I was there when the car was picked up and I was there when it was dropped off. I met the driver. The only thing I didn’t like was they stopped on a busy street right by my house when there was one road they could have come on. We had to walk out there and I had to walk to the median. That aside, the driver was courteous. It’s really hard to move those big trucks in and out of residential areas, so I understood. It didn’t bother me that much. Everything worked out great. The intended purpose was fulfilled and there was great customer service.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Lauderhill, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]
