Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Delray Beach customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa is very reliable and honest. They’ll take care of your car as their own. I like their fixed rate guarantee. During the pickup, the driver called me up and told me that his truck wouldn’t be able to go inside my apartment complex. We agreed to meet up somewhere very near that was also convenient on his part. I had some luggage inside the car and he didn’t charge me extra for that.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“The rep who helped me set up was amazing. He was very nice, knowledgeable, helped me and answered all my questions. He told me what to do, what not to do, that this company would be calling out to me and gave me the rundown of everything. I got the vehicle quickly. They said in-between the 14th and 16th and the driver dropped it off on the 11th.”

Yelp
★★★★★

“If you’ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window.”

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey affects car shipping costs to and from Delray Beach, FL. Longer distances typically result in higher prices, but the per-mile rate often decreases for longer trips.
  • Transport Type: Open car transport is the most common and affordable option for shipping vehicles to Delray Beach. Enclosed transport, while about 50% more expensive, offers extra protection from Florida’s occasional tropical storms and road debris.
  • Location Accessibility: Delray Beach’s proximity to I-95 makes it relatively easy to access, potentially lowering shipping costs. However, deliveries to specific neighborhoods may incur additional fees if they’re harder to reach with large transport trucks.
  • Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, cost more to ship to Delray Beach than compact cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Time of Year: Summer months and January tend to have higher car shipping rates to Delray Beach. Florida’s mild winter climate can make it a popular destination for snowbirds, potentially affecting prices during these periods.
  • Fuel Prices: Fluctuations in fuel costs can impact auto transport rates to and from Delray Beach, as carriers adjust their prices to maintain profitability.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship to Delray Beach than inoperable ones, which require special equipment for loading and unloading.

Understanding these factors can help you estimate your car shipping costs to Delray Beach more accurately. For a detailed breakdown of pricing factors, check out our car shipping calculator guide. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Delray Beach car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Open carriers offer the most competitive rates for auto transport to or from Delray Beach, FL. While enclosed shipping is necessary for some vehicles, open transport provides greater flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find convenient locations near major highways like I-95 or Florida’s Turnpike. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during car transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better pricing options. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of more cost-effective car shipping services to or from Delray Beach.
  • Consider seasonal timing: Auto transport rates may fluctuate based on demand. If possible, schedule your Delray Beach car shipping during off-peak seasons to potentially secure lower prices.

Vehicle Transport Registration

When relocating to or from Delray Beach, FL, there are several important factors to consider regarding your vehicle and the moving process. For car shipping to Delray Beach, it’s crucial to be aware of local regulations and requirements. Florida doesn’t have a state vehicle inspection program, but you’ll need to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency. The registration process is straightforward and can be completed at the Palm Beach County Tax Collector’s office.

If you’re using auto transport services, remember to remove your SunPass transponder before shipping your car. This toll collection system is widely used in Florida, and you don’t want to incur charges while your vehicle is in transit. For those moving to Delray Beach, you can easily obtain a SunPass online or at local retailers once you arrive.

Delray Beach’s climate is something to consider when shipping a car. The hot, humid weather and proximity to the ocean can affect your vehicle. It’s advisable to have your car washed and waxed before transport to protect it from salt air and potential sun damage during the journey.

When settling in Delray Beach, you’ll need to set up utilities. Florida Power & Light (FPL) provides electricity, while the City of Delray Beach handles water services. For internet, providers like Xfinity and AT&T offer services in the area. If you’re moving away from Delray Beach, remember to cancel local memberships, forward your mail, and notify relevant parties of your address change. Using a reliable car transport company can make your move smoother, allowing you to focus on other aspects of relocation. Whether you’re moving to or from this vibrant coastal city, proper planning and utilizing professional car shipping services can ensure a stress-free transition for both you and your vehicle.

Delray Beach, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Delray Beach?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Delray Beach. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Delray Beach?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Delray Beach?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Delray Beach?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

“My sister was living down from New York. She was gonna drive, but then we decided that it wasn`t in her best interest to drive. I had to get her car down to Florida. I tried one other place first and I called them up. They didn`t answer the phone and so I looked at some online reviews, and I saw some pretty good ones for Sherpa. I called them up. The guy was super nice. He quoted me $1,000. The first quote I got from the other place was $895. I told him that I got a quote lower than that. He said that that the other company would probably call me back after they pick up the car and say that they were having trouble or this or that, and it would be this much more. I went with Sherpa and gave him a $300 deposit. Then he went over everything. It was very clear that I would give the driver $700. I brought my sister down to Florida. We took the car over to my cousin`s. They picked up the car a few days later because time wasn`t critical. Then a week later, I got a call from the driver. He asked me where he could drop it off ‘cause he had a big semi. We met, picked up the car, paid him the 700, and everything was perfect. Incidentally, the guy at the other place that I called first was a real jerk. He called me a few days later and said that they couldn`t do the move for 895 and that it would be more like 1,495. I was pissed off. I told him that somebody else already did it for 1,000. Then he said the same thing that the Sherpa guy said, that the company would call back and tell they had trouble with the truck. Overall, it went great. I was very pleased.”

“I was moving from Michigan to Florida and I reached out to Sherpa to transport my car. I talked to other companies and a lot of them were being overly otimistic and over promising. But when I spoke to Sherpa, they told me about the deal, how it works, what they could guarantee, and what they couldn`t promise me. They laid out the most realistic picture of what could be expected and based on their feedback, I changed my plan completely. I was going to ship the vehicle right around the time that I was moving out of the home, and it was right around the 4th of July holiday weekend, and they said if there was any way I could make it any sooner, they could get it where I wanted it to be. Otherwise, it was likely not going to happen. So that dialogue is really solidified it for me. The drivers were great and they arrived about an hour early for the pickup, which is always appreciated. They encouraged me to videotape as they were loading, to take as many photos, and to be there during the loading process right up to the point where the door closed. There were two drivers in the car and they were alternating. They muscled it down and yet again, they were ahead of schedule by about 40 minutes on the delivery. On a cross country drive, you can`t ask for more. They delivered it right to the front gate with 100% no issues. I wasn`t here when it was delivered but my father received the vehicle and he said they told him that he could witness the whole extraction of the vehicle, just to make sure that there were no hidden mishaps. So, it was pretty seamless. Ironically, because of the change in plans that they suggested, the price came in cheaper than I originally anticipated, because scheduling it a little bit earlier in that month saved me $350 over the original bids that I`ve been getting from the other groups. So that was great. The pricing was right where we wanted it to be. I used to buy vehicles from out of state and I was always at the mercy of whoever shipped the vehicle to pick the carrier. This time, knowing what I know about them and the carriers that they select, I want to use Sherpa again.”

“I had a four-door Jeep Wrangler transported from Florida to Arizona. Sherpa was very customer-service-oriented when I spoke with them. The reviews about the company really swayed me to use their service. The gal that helped me was personable and explained things well. The price lock option was very nice and I liked that. It was very helpful. Also, the final cost was reasonable. I had one other company that was a little less expensive and the service was great. But I wanted to go with someone I felt more comfortable with. The only thing is they don`t give you an idea of who`s gonna be picking up the car until the last minute. It`s a little scary waiting until the last minute to know for sure if they`re gonna pick it up. But that`s just how the industry works. I was there when the car was picked up and I was there when it was dropped off. I met the driver. The only thing I didn`t like was they stopped on a busy street right by my house when there was one road they could have come on. We had to walk out there and I had to walk to the median. That aside, the driver was courteous. It`s really hard to move those big trucks in and out of residential areas, so I understood. It didn`t bother me that much. Everything worked out great. The intended purpose was fulfilled and there was great customer service.”

“Sherpa’s price lock promise was a good lock in. That was a plus on their side. They were the only ones that I saw that offered it, which might have helped me in that decision besides flipping a few coins. I spoke with the guy who set it all up for me and he sounded nice, professional and sincere, and that was also helpful. I was kept informed of where the car was and when it was expected. I paid Sherpa a $200 down payment to set the date and there was another balance of 13.50. They wanted cash on the barrelhead when I pulled in but my daughter didn`t have the cash. I could put the money in her account and she`d have to take the money out of her account to get the cash. But since I`m paying for it, it was easier that it goes directly to where I want it to go. I sent $50 while the car was en route and Eric, the driver, said it went through. I told them that I’ll do the balance when they get there, after my daughter has checked out the car. And I did. It worked fast. But at first, they were a little hesitant about that and the other people weren`t even giving me much of a choice on that either. Sherpa worked with me with the payment, the pickup and the drop-off. They were always there when I called. It was excellent. I will use them again when I need to get my car back.”

“Just used them to transport my mom`s old 1993 Del Sol from Inverness, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Created the request on Sat 7 Oct. Same day I received confirmation of the booking and price (lower than the other companies I contacted). Received an email on Sun 8 Oct that they were still searching for a driver. On Mon 9 Oct, I received an email indicating a driver was located. At 3 PM I received a call informing me the driver would like to pick up at 6 PM the same day. Wow that was quick. Driver arrived at 6:40 pm on Mon 9 Oct – first working day after my initial contact. The driver did call me directly to confirm the person she was to obtain the car from – my sister. Since the truck was so large and my Pittsburgh location is down narrow streets, I decided to change the delivery location to a barely used strip mall directly off the interstate. On Tue at 9:10 AM I texted the new location to my Sherpa contact. My Sherpa contact agreed and indicated the car should be delivered the same day. The driver did call me, 30 minutes before she expected to arrive at the strip mall parking lot. Wow by 6:30 PM on Tue 10 Oct the car was delivered in perfect condition. Seriously it could not have been easier or better service delivered. I highly recommend Sherpa Auto Transport!!!!”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Delray Beach, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
  4. The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  5. During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]

  7. Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. Look for providers with a proven track record of successful car transports and positive customer reviews. Ensure the company offers adequate insurance coverage and maintains a good standing with the FMCSA. Consider factors like pricing transparency, quality of customer service, and range of car shipping services offered. Be wary of unusually low quotes or companies that demand large upfront deposits. A reputable car shipping company should be able to accommodate your schedule and provide clear communication throughout the process, ensuring your vehicle arrives safely in the sunshine of Delray Beach, FL.
