Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs Icon

Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.
  • Be Flexible. Certain days of the week & time of the year can be more expensive.
  • Enclosed auto transport vs open car shipping. Special vehicles require a fully enclosed car shipping trailer. Enclosed trailers offer protection & peace of mind, but are significantly more expensive.
  • Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
  • Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all of shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Davie customers say about Sherpa:

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Sherpa had a lock-in quote and knowing that I wasn`t gonna be charged more money later sealed the deal. The representative was great and the driver really did a great job. He got to my destination before I did. He helped set things up with my new apartment complex to leave the car at the right place. He really went above and beyond. The cost for the service I got was totally worth it.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“Top Line Auto Service based out of California dropped the car off. The two brothers met me. I had spoken to Joseph on the phone, and figured out what direction they were coming from, which was east from Florida. And based on where I live, I gave them the best place that I thought would be the easiest to pull up an 18-wheeler, and with a truckload of cars, to offload it and meet them to where they could easily get back on the interstate again and go about their day without having to snake through city traffic.”

Consumer Affairs
★★★★★

“It didn’t take me too long to get my date I wanted to sent my car from Crestview, Florida to Denver Colorado. I gave Shane the date May 23rd I asked for and the driver arrived on that day I asked for. The dispatcher from the company assigned for me were incredible, the lady dispatcher were on top of informing me on date when the driver will come to pick my car.”

Factors that affect Davie Car Shipping Prices

Car Transport Distance
Pickup and Drop Off Location

Vehicle Size
  • Distance and Route: The distance between pickup and delivery locations significantly impacts car shipping costs to and from Davie, FL. Longer distances generally mean higher prices. However, Davie’s proximity to major highways like I-595 and I-75 can help reduce costs for long-distance auto transport.
  • Vehicle Type: The size, weight, and model of your vehicle affect shipping prices. Larger vehicles like SUVs or trucks typically cost more to ship than standard cars due to the space they occupy on the carrier.
  • Transport Method: Open car transport is the most common and affordable option for shipping a car to or from Davie. Enclosed transport, while offering more protection, is usually about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
  • Seasonal Factors: Davie’s warm climate makes it an attractive destination year-round, but car shipping prices can fluctuate seasonally. Summer months and January often see higher demand and prices for auto transport services.
  • Pickup and Delivery Locations: Urban areas like Davie are generally more accessible and cost-effective for car shipping compared to rural locations. Proximity to major cities like Fort Lauderdale and Miami can help keep costs down.
  • Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates can lead to more competitive pricing. Rush or guaranteed delivery services typically come at a premium.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are easier and cheaper to transport. Inoperable cars require special equipment for loading and unloading, increasing the overall cost of shipping.

Understanding these factors can help you estimate the cost of shipping your car to or from Davie, FL more accurately. For a detailed breakdown of car shipping costs, check out our car shipping calculator guide. If you’re considering enclosed transport for added protection, learn more about open vs. enclosed car shipping to determine the best option for your vehicle.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Davie car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes along I-75 or I-95, potentially bundling your vehicle with others for cost savings.
  • Choose open transport: Open shipping offers the lowest rates and most flexibility for negotiating prices when transporting your car to or from Davie, FL.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa advisors to find locations near major highways like I-595 or Florida’s Turnpike. This can significantly reduce fuel costs for carriers.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items to reduce weight and avoid potential liability issues during auto transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering date flexibility for pickup and delivery can lead to better options and potential savings on your car shipping service.
  • Consider seasonal timing: Davie’s tropical climate means steady demand year-round, but avoiding peak seasons like winter can sometimes yield better rates for shipping a car to or from this South Florida city.

How does Davie Car Shipping Work?

Steps of the Car Transport Process

Navigating the car shipping process in Davie, FL, can be a breeze with the right guidance. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you ship your vehicle to or from this sunny Florida town:

  • Get an instant quote: Start by obtaining a free online quote from a reliable auto transport company. Provide details about your vehicle, desired pickup and delivery locations, and preferred shipping method.
  • Book your shipment: Once you’re satisfied with the quote, lock in your car transport service. Remember, with Davie’s tropical climate, enclosed transport might be worth considering to protect your vehicle from sudden rainstorms.
  • Prepare your vehicle: Before the pickup date, wash your car thoroughly and document its condition. Remove personal items and ensure your gas tank is no more than a quarter full. For a comprehensive checklist, check out our guide on how to ship a car.
  • Meet the carrier: On pickup day, you’ll meet the driver for an inspection and hand over the keys. If you’re shipping to Davie, consider scheduling the pickup for early morning to avoid Florida’s afternoon heat.
  • Track your shipment: While your car is in transit, stay informed about its progress. Your vehicle will likely travel along I-95 or I-75, two major highways serving Davie.
  • Receive your vehicle: Upon arrival, inspect your car and sign the bill of lading. If you’re new to Davie, this is a great time to ask the driver for local tips, like the best routes to avoid traffic on University Drive or Stirling Road.

Remember, shipping a car to or from Davie requires attention to detail and proper planning. By following these steps and working with a reputable car shipping company, you can ensure a smooth auto transport experience in the Sunshine State.

Vehicle Transport Registration

When shipping a car to or from Davie, FL, there are several local considerations to keep in mind. First, Florida doesn’t require vehicle inspections, making the car transport process smoother. However, you’ll need to register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency. The SunPass is Florida’s electronic toll collection system, so remember to remove or update it if you’re moving away.

For those moving to Davie, setting up utilities is straightforward. Florida Power & Light (FPL) provides electricity, while the City of Davie handles water services. Popular internet providers include Xfinity and AT&T. Don’t forget to update your voter registration and explore Davie’s excellent public schools if you have children.

If you’re leaving Davie, remember to forward your mail, cancel local memberships, and return your library card. The subtropical climate in Davie means your car may need special care during auto transport. Consider enclosed car shipping to protect against sudden rainstorms common in Florida.

Davie’s location near major highways like I-595 and Florida’s Turnpike makes it an accessible destination for car shipping services. When choosing a car shipping company, look for ones familiar with Davie’s unique blend of urban and rural areas. Some neighborhoods have specific parking regulations, so check local rules upon arrival.

Whether you’re using Davie car shipping services to move in or out, remember that Florida’s heat can affect vehicles. Davie, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Davie?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Davie. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Davie?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Davie?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Davie?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

Seasonal Guide to Ship a Car in Davie

When planning car shipping to or from Davie, FL, it’s crucial to consider the unique seasonal factors that can impact your auto transport experience. Davie’s subtropical climate brings hot, humid summers and mild winters, which can affect your car shipping strategy.

During the summer months (June to September), temperatures in Davie can soar. If you’re shipping a car during this time, consider these tips:

  • Place a sunshade under your windshield to protect the interior from intense heat.
  • Remove any heat-sensitive items from your vehicle to prevent melting or damage.
  • Choose enclosed auto transport for added protection from the sun and occasional summer storms.

While Davie doesn’t experience harsh winters, the period from December to February can bring cooler temperatures and increased rainfall. Keep these factors in mind when using car shipping services:

  • Ensure your vehicle’s antifreeze levels are appropriate for potential temperature drops.
  • Remove any liquids that might freeze and expand, potentially causing damage.
  • Be prepared for possible delays due to occasional winter storms in northern transport routes.

Beyond weather considerations, Davie car shipping can be influenced by seasonal events:

  • Holiday periods: Plan ahead for potential delays and higher rates during major holidays.
  • Hurricane season: From June to November, be prepared for possible service interruptions due to severe weather.

By considering these seasonal factors, you can ensure a smoother car shipping experience to or from Davie, FL. Always consult with your chosen car shipping company for the most up-to-date advice and to address any specific concerns you may have about your auto transport needs.

Lastly, consider the convenience of car shipping services for stress-free transportation to and from campus, especially during busy move-in periods.

“If you’ve never used a transport company, read this first . . . One thing to know is if you fill out any form online, you will be bombarded with thirty phone calls, texts, and emails — 30 for each. It was non-stop. My fault for not thinking. Next thing to know is that there are many scam artists who will take your money. Nothing against call centers in another country but the manipulating tactics of these “salesman” made me uncomfortable. We had two cars to transport from south florida to San Diego. Our sons are both marines newly stationed in CA and they needed their cars. I spoke to another transport company who quote $2500 per car. When I said I wanted to get other quotes, I was sternly informed that I would not find nothing better. Lol. The way transports work is that your “transport need” gets posted on a “board” where the actual transporters or transport companies will bid on them. They need their transport truck to be filled. Sometimes, if the quote the company you called (which is a middle man, not the transporter) doesn’t get filled, you will get a call from that company asking you for more money to entice. Transporter to take your bid to transport your cars. You will deal with NONE of that with Sherpa Transport. They guarantee the first price quote in writing that you accept. And there is not a single fee or hidden charge after that. I had such a bad experience with the dozens of calls and abusive quotes that I asked the Sherpa agent how this whole thing works. He as honest and explained it all to me. Then he explained they only with with insured vetted transporters. The experience with the transporter was incredible. The dispatcher called me a few days early and communicated with me the name of river and time window. Then the actual driver called me. He was an Angel! He was so kind and friendly. His truck was top notch and IMMACULATE! I knew the cars would be safe. We paid around $1300 each ($2600 total). Considering the insurance costs, gas, cost to maintain those trucks, and time, it was worth every penny. But the peace of mind was out of this world! I had a safe feeling with Sherpa. I spoke to several agents because my first agent was off the next day when I was due to sign. Every person I spoke to was highly respectful and helpful (night and day to the other companies I spoke to). Note that you have 24 hours to take the quote. You won’t have to worry, you are making the best decision. Great job Sherpa! And reward your agents! They are well trained and caring which is hard to find in this day and age”

“I was moving cross-country, so I needed a transport service to ship my vehicle. I looked at four transport companies and I went with Sherpa Auto Transport because of their reviews and their responsiveness when I called them. I enjoyed the fact that the reps answered right away. They got back to me when they said they would and kept me fully informed of how everything was going to work. They were really clear upfront that Sherpa was just the broker or the agency and not the company that was gonna do the transport. They were gonna use a company that they had worked with in the past and this company was gonna transport for them. As soon as they secured this company, they called me immediately to let me know that they had made contact with the company and they were ready to schedule the pickup. This process went smoothly. The quote that was provided by Sherpa was around the same price and within the ballpark of everything else that I was getting. Their quote was reasonable, especially for a covered transport. They put me in touch with the driver and the driver contacted me when he was getting close. I was in an apartment complex so he had to park outside on the main road where there was a parking area, and I brought my car out to them. They had other vehicles and they put mine in all the way up to the front because it was gonna be the last one they would offload. They took care of everything and the transport went really well. The driver was more comfortable speaking in Spanish than in English. Although I would have easily conducted business with him even if I didn’t speak Spanish, it went easier since I did, so my communication with him was good. Sherpa transported my vehicle 3,000 miles from LA to Miami and they were great and easy to work with.”

“I was moving to Seattle and I needed to ship my vehicle, an Audi A4. I looked at around five different transport companies, but Sherpa Auto Transport was recommended by a friend. The quote that was provided to me by Sherpa was reasonable. It was up to the par or quite equal to the other quotes. The customer service at Sherpa went as smoothly as it could. There were a couple of times when the driver was not picking up my calls. I called customer service and they were able to retrieve information from him, like where he was because the driver promised me around three times that he would be there. He may have been so close somewhere, but he didn’t want to take my calls. Also, the delivery was 14 days late and I started with my new company on the same day it came in. He said that he was going in two hours, but I was in an orientation that day and I was not able to get out, so I called up my brother who missed his office for half a day to pick that car up. The driver was very unreasonable. He said that he was going to Oregon the next day and if I didn’t pick up that day, then I might have to pick it up the next week. The car was dirty at the time of delivery and my brother was trying to find many scratches, but the truck driver wanted to go as fast as he could. He said that it was time to go and that if my brother could get the car clean that day, then let him know if there were any scratches. Overall, there was no damage, so that was good. I just didn’t like the transporter, the one who drove the vehicle, but I’ll definitely recommend Sherpa.”

“Your services were excellent. The communications were constant, accurate and professional, so I was completely aware of what was happening at all times. If there was a minor problem, I felt that Sherpa was on top of it, and took responsibility for everything under their control. When the driver was found, I got numerous emails, texts and phone calls to alert me. When his language was a bit hard to understand, Sherpa got in the middle of it to help with communication. When I asked about insurance, Sherpa assured me it had the proper paperwork. The driver arrived at exactly the appointed hour, and showed up a day early in Texas—unbelievable. I would not hesitate to use your services again, and I have been telling my friends to consider you if they want to ship their cars anywhere. Many thanks for such a professional and hassle-free experience (not to mention a very fair price).”

“We didn’t wanna rent a car in Florida. We wanted to have our car there but we didn’t wanna go by train or by car. We wanted to fly down there. So we used a transport service to move our car from New Jersey to Florida. We called Sherpa and they gave us a price. It was highly expensive but it was fair. The car came and it was in good shape. They took care of it and didn’t mess it up. Plus they met our timetable. We had set out a timetable to satisfy our need as to when we were gonna arrive and when we were gonna leave. But because of the virus, we didn’t leave Florida. Our flight was canceled. So we had to tell Sherpa we had to change the date and they were very accommodating with the whole thing. In fact, they met all of our requirements. Our experience was quite good. We were satisfied pretty much with the whole service.”

What is Auto Transport? Icon

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Davie, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

Fun Facts About Car Shipping

  2. Modern car carriers can transport up to 12 vehicles at a time. This design, which has evolved over decades, helps reduce the number of trips needed, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions. [Source: Super Dispatch]
  3. Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
