Factors that Affect Auto Transport Costs

  • Book Early. We recommend booking car transport at least two weeks out.

Vehicle Size
  • Distance: The length of the journey significantly impacts car shipping costs to or from Altamonte Springs, FL. Longer distances generally mean higher prices, but per-mile rates often decrease for longer trips.
  • Vehicle Size and Weight: Larger or heavier vehicles, such as SUVs or trucks, typically cost more to ship than smaller cars. This is due to the extra space and fuel they require during transport.
  • Transport Type: Open carriers are the most common and affordable option for car shipping to Altamonte Springs. Enclosed transport offers additional protection but comes at a higher cost, usually about 50% more.
  • Season: Auto transport prices can fluctuate based on the time of year. Summer months and January tend to be busier and more expensive for car shipping in Altamonte Springs, FL, due to increased demand.
  • Route Popularity: Shipping to or from Altamonte Springs along major highways like I-4 or Florida’s Turnpike may be more cost-effective due to higher carrier availability.
  • Delivery Timeframe: Flexible pickup and delivery dates often result in lower car shipping costs. Expedited services for faster delivery will increase the price.
  • Vehicle Condition: Operable vehicles are cheaper to ship as they can be driven onto the carrier. Inoperable cars require special equipment, increasing the cost.

Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping

  • Book early: Schedule your Altamonte Springs car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
  • Choose open transport: Opt for open car shipping to get the lowest rates. While enclosed carriers are necessary for some vehicles, open transport offers more flexibility and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Strategic pickup/dropoff: Consult with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major highways like I-4 or SR 436. This can significantly reduce fuel costs and overall shipping expenses.
  • Empty your vehicle: Remove personal items from your car before shipping. This reduces weight and potential liability issues during transport.
  • Be flexible: Offering flexibility in pickup and delivery dates can lead to better options and potential savings on your Altamonte Springs auto transport.
  • Consider seasonal timing: If possible, avoid peak moving seasons like summer when demand for car shipping services is high. Booking during off-peak times may result in lower rates.
  • Explore multi-car discounts: If you’re shipping multiple vehicles, ask about potential discounts. Sherpa Auto Transport often offers reduced rates for multi-car shipments.

Steps of the Car Transport Process

Navigating the car shipping process in Altamonte Springs, FL, requires careful planning and consideration of local factors. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you ship your vehicle to or from this vibrant Central Florida city:

1. Get an Instant Quote: Start by obtaining a car shipping quote from a reputable auto transport company like Sherpa Auto Transport. Be prepared to provide details about your vehicle, desired pickup and delivery locations, and preferred shipping method.

2. Lock in Your Shipment: Once you’re satisfied with the quote, secure your booking. Remember, nothing is due upfront with Sherpa, and you’ll only be charged when a carrier is assigned to your shipment.

6. Receive Your Vehicle: Upon arrival, inspect your car thoroughly before signing the Bill of Lading. Pay attention to any signs of sun exposure or moisture, given Florida’s intense sunlight and occasional rain showers.

Altamonte Springs, Florida Vehicle Transport FAQs

How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Altamonte Springs?

See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Altamonte Springs. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.

Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Altamonte Springs?

Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.

All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.

How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Altamonte Springs?

The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.

How do I pay for my auto transport to Altamonte Springs?

No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.

We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.

Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?

Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.

Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?

Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.

What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?

Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.

Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?

Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.

How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?

Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. “At two different times, I spoke to two people who were both very helpful and knowledgeable. Price-wise, Sherpa Auto Transport was the same as everyone. They were all within the same ballpark of each other. But I felt they were more comfortable after speaking to them. Also, I could see why they had the reviews because they were exactly like it was when talking to them. And everything was smooth. They offered a free car wash. Everything was wonderful. I submitted the thing through online, and they sent an email back with the quote. It was a day later, they called to go over a couple of things. I`m in South Florida and the car would go to Boston, and the tires in Florida were not the type of tires I need for winter up north. So, that would cause a delay because we had to wait for the tires to come in. She said, “No problem. I`ll make a note in the system so we can still hold on to the quote we gave you and you don`t lose the price. And as soon as you know when the tires will be in and when you can do this, just let us know.” Once I knew when the tires would be done, I called them back. She guided me on what window to take for pick-up, so it would be there when my daughter got there. She helped me with figuring what would be the best dates for everything. And while I was on the phone with her, she sent me an email which I had to click on and pay the deposit, and she stayed on the phone with me while the whole thing went through to make sure they got it. There were no glitches in their system or on my end. Within a day, she sent me the name of the company that would take the car, gave me all their contact information if I needed anything from them. The pick-up went very well. It was not the driver`s fault that it was pouring rain. I felt bad. Those things happen. In that type of business, it`s not like an airplane where people know what time they would arrive and depart. The driver would get stuck based on whoever is in front of him. He thought he would be there between 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning, and it wound up being more 2 o`clock in the afternoon. I knew he couldn`t get into my neighborhood. So, the company gave me the driver`s direct phone number so I could pre-arrange a pick-up where he could get the truck and be able to get the car. So, between the weather and the rain, it delayed him. The pick-up wound being later than expected. The drop-off, again, was not his fault, the car that was dropped off before us gave the wrong address and did not answer their phone. It was my brother-in-law that handled that and they agreed it would be too dark by the time the driver would be able to bring the car. So, they said they would do it first thing in the morning and they were there at 7:30 with the car.”

“I read the Better Business Bureau reports and Sherpa was at the top. I’m a senior, so I looked at a few senior sites and Sherpa was recommended by one of the sites that I looked at. I called them and they were pretty straightforward. They weren’t the lowest price but they had a promised guarantee stating that it would only be a certain price and they guaranteed $300 over. I have a Kia and I was having it transported from Southern Arizona to Sebring, Florida. What Sherpa does is they put the bid out and different transport companies then bid on that. I had a gentleman from Miami who was making the trip back and forth and he called me. I was under the impression I would get a 24 to 48-hour notice. He was very professional when he showed up and he delivered my car safely. But he only gave me half hour notice on my end before he wanted to get the car. The car was picked up on a Tuesday morning and it was delivered on Friday. I was still in Arizona. My daughter-in-law and son were having the car delivered. The gentleman texted me Thursday night and said, “Let them know that I’ll be there first thing in the morning.†It was already midnight in Florida so they didn’t get the message. In the end, it all worked out fine despite the transport guy not quite meeting the expectations that Sherpa said I would get from a carrier. The car was delivered exactly as they said it would be. It made it fine. I was promised upfront by Sherpa a free car wash but my car was clean, so I didn’t use the car wash. I was very happy.”

“I`ve had horrible experiences making calls a 2 yrs ago, planning a move and needing my car shipped. I was getting hammered for a couple weeks by annoying calls, texts, and emails from many transport companies that didn`t seem legit. Fast forward, my moving plans fell through, and this time around, I took my time researching for reliable transport companies. I stumbled upon Sherpa reviews here, which made me more comfortable and confident to call, needing my car shipped from San Diego to Florida. Customer service was excellent with my first call, explained how transport works, they aren`t like the companies that have hundreds of random people calling, texting, and emailing, asked for a window date I needed my car picked up, and got a quote done. I felt great after the call. Communication was top notch from customer service to the driver. 2 weeks later, I got a call from the driver letting me know what day and time he`s arriving. The driver actually arrived a day or 2 earlier that was on a Sunday, which wasn`t a problem. I took pics of the outside and inside my car. The driver took pics as well, including pics of my car being loaded on the truck that were also sent to me through text message. The driver was very detailed, and told me he`ll have updates in the next couple days. That Wednesday morning, the driver sent me a text with a picture of his truck that had other cars on it, and said my car will be delivered early in the morning Thursday! I was impressed how fast shipping was! That Thursday, a family was contacted by the driver for delivery. The delivery was very smooth, recieved a pic of my car in a nearby parking lot due to his truck being too big for residential areas that was less than 1 mile away. My family member retrieved my car after doing an inspection with the driver. No scratches or damages whatsoever! Received the bill of lading afterwards. It`s nice having your car at its final destination before I fly out! I`m very impressed with this company! I highly recommend Sherpa!”

“We were moving from California to Florida with two vehicles and pets, and a transport was easier with traveling with animals. Sherpa`s agent was easy to work with and very knowledgeable. I did the quote online and I screenshotted it. But then, I had questions so I called. The gentleman I talked to was super nice and he gave me a quote which was higher. I gave him my original quote and asked if he`d be able to match the rate. And he matched the online rate. They were supposed to pick up on a Monday, and they ended up picking up on a Sunday, but they called ahead of time the day before and let us know. Then, we had to bring the vehicles to a larger intersection because the roads were too windy for the truck to get up. We didn`t know that until they called to say that they couldn`t get up there and asked if we could bring the cars down. Then, they walked around the vehicles, took pictures, noted any dings or dents as they went, and they emailed us the bill of lading which had all of the information and photos attached. From the Los Angeles area to Sarasota, the transport was supposed to take 5 to 10 days, and it took 2. Two guys did the transport and they drove all night long. It was crazy.”

“Sherpa was very responsive. I was on a timeline and needed a company that was going to be professional and timely. I could tell Sherpa was very organized and did a lot of auto transport. They gave a quote in a timely manner via email and were very clear on the next steps. They were top-notch. The vehicles were picked up on time as arranged and the drivers were professional. First, we started with one vehicle then we added a second one. Where I lived in Florida, they didn`t allow trucks that size so I met one of the drivers at a parking lot nearby. I met the other driver on a residential street nearby that allowed larger trucks. But they were both very convenient, less than a mile from my home in Florida. Both drivers were communicative throughout and I`m very pleased with how my two vehicles were transported from one coast to the other. They were dirty but the nice thing about Sherpa is you could go get a car wash on them and I took advantage of that. I got both cars washed and sent them the receipt. They credited my credit card $20 for each vehicle. My only complaint is the price was high but Sherpa didn`t change the pricing so it was fair. Also, the price was high with every auto transport. I could have found one a little bit cheaper but they didn`t seem as professional.”

What is Car Shipping?

Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Altamonte Springs, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.

About the Car Shipping Industry

Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Florida. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.
