- Vehicle Size. Full size Pickup Trucks cost more to ship than Compact Cars.
- Location, Location, Location. For your convenience, we strive to make all shipments door to door. However, if you are in a remote location, consider selecting a location closer to an interstate to help reduce your car shipping cost.

What our Denver customers say about Sherpa:
“There was an issue with the car not being able to make it onto the trailer when the driver showed up, but they worked hard on my behalf to convince the driver that we had made the necessary repairs and the car would be able to make it up into his trailer. To their credit and his, he came back and picked up the car and made the delivery as promised. The driver was even ahead of the estimated delivery time. Very professional driver and company. I would HIGHLY recommend Sherpa Auto Transport to anyone that’s needs a vehicle shipped to Denver!”
“Sherpa was spot on with the quote as well. In fact, they said if I would send their company a copy of the manifest they got and a copy of the final thing that I got, within two weeks, they would refund $100 to my credit card. However, I was so impressed with the job they did and how hard they worked that I didn’t even bother with that and just let them keep it. I don’t know why Sherpa is not number one, but they probably soon will be because they really did a great job.”
“We contracted with Sherpa to arrange transport of an automobile we purchased from our daughter and son-in-law in Connecticut to our home near Boulder, Colorado. Sherpa notified us that it had found a transporter, that the price would be about $200 higher than its estimate, and that Sherpa would cover the difference–so we paid exactly what Sherpa had promised. They were good in communicating each step of the process.”

Factors that affect Denver Car Shipping Prices
- Distance: The farther your vehicle needs to travel to or from Denver, the higher the cost. Denver’s central location in the U.S. can be advantageous for east-west routes but may increase costs for north-south shipments.
- Transport Type: Open car carriers are the most common and cost-effective option for auto transport to or from Denver. Enclosed trailers offer extra protection from Colorado’s varied weather conditions but are about 50% more expensive and may have longer delivery times.
- Pickup and Delivery Locations: Shipping to urban areas in Denver is generally cheaper than to rural locations in Colorado. Consider meeting the carrier near major highways like I-25 or I-70 to potentially reduce costs.
- Seasonal Factors: Denver’s weather can impact car shipping prices. Winter snow and icy conditions may increase costs, while summer is peak season for auto transport, potentially raising prices due to high demand.
- Vehicle Size and Condition: Larger or heavier vehicles cost more to ship. Additionally, inoperable vehicles require special equipment for loading, increasing the price. Ensure your car is in running condition to keep costs down.
- Timing and Flexibility: Opting for a wider pickup window can lead to more competitive rates. Rush or guaranteed delivery services to or from Denver will increase the cost of your auto transport.
- Route Popularity: Denver’s status as a major city means more frequent transport routes, potentially lowering costs. However, shipping to less traveled areas in Colorado might be pricier.
Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions when shipping your car to or from Denver. Tips & Tricks for Saving on Vehicle Shipping
- Book early: Schedule your Denver car shipping at least two weeks in advance. This allows carriers to optimize routes and potentially offer discounts for bundling multiple vehicles.
- Choose open transport: Open car shipping is generally more affordable than enclosed options. It’s suitable for most vehicles and offers greater flexibility in pricing.
- Strategic pickup/dropoff: Work with Sherpa Auto Transport advisors to find locations near major interstates like I-25 or I-70. This can reduce fuel costs and potentially lower your auto transport quote.
- Lighten your load: Remove personal items from your vehicle before shipping. This reduces weight and eliminates liability concerns for the car shipping company.
- Be flexible: Offering a range of pickup and delivery dates can help you secure better rates for your Denver car transport. Consider adjusting your schedule to take advantage of optimal pricing.
- Consider seasonality: Auto transport to and from Denver can be affected by weather conditions, especially in winter. Planning your shipment during milder seasons may offer more competitive rates.

Denver Car Transport: Local Insights and Regulations
When shipping your car to or from Denver, CO, it’s crucial to be aware of local regulations and prepare for your move. Denver car shipping involves more than just arranging auto transport; it’s about ensuring a smooth transition to your new home.
First, let’s address vehicle-specific considerations. Colorado requires all vehicles to pass an emissions test before registration. If you’re moving to Denver, schedule this test promptly after arrival. For toll roads, Denver uses the ExpressToll system. Consider removing your current toll transponder to avoid unintended charges during car transport. Once settled, you can easily obtain a new ExpressToll pass for local use.
When registering your vehicle in Colorado, you’ll need proof of insurance, a valid ID, and your vehicle’s title. The process is straightforward and can be completed at any Denver DMV office. Keep in mind that Denver’s high altitude and variable weather can affect your car. After shipping a car to Denver, consider having it serviced to ensure it’s adapted to the new environment.
For your move, remember to set up utilities. Denver Water handles water services, while Xcel Energy provides electricity and gas. For internet, you have options like Comcast, CenturyLink, and Google Fiber. Don’t forget to update your voter registration and, if applicable, enroll your children in Denver Public Schools.
If you’re leaving Denver, cancel local memberships and set up mail forwarding with USPS. For those arriving, obtaining a library card from Denver Public Library is a great way to connect with your new community.
Whether you’re using car shipping services to bring your vehicle to the Mile High City or arranging auto transport for a move away, being prepared for Denver’s unique aspects will make your transition much smoother. From navigating I-25 and I-70 to adapting to the city’s four distinct seasons, your Denver adventure awaits!
Denver, Colorado Vehicle Transport FAQs
How do I prepare my vehicle for transit to or from Denver?
See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for details about how to prepare your vehicle to / from Denver. In short, you’ll want to remove any toll pass or fragile items, make sure you have a key available to provide the carrier, and remove any interior and exterior accessories that could be damaged in transit.
Is my vehicle insured transporting to or from Denver?
Yes, our quotes are all-inclusive. All of our carriers are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance and $100,000 in cargo insurance. To ship your vehicle, we verify that the carrier’s insurance policy is valid and in good standing for the duration of your shipment.
All contracted carriers also add Sherpa as a Certificate Holder on their insurance policy.
How far out should I schedule my pickup service from Denver?
The sooner, the better. We recommend at least two weeks, but it’s ideal to post your shipment as soon as possible so that carriers can bundle your shipment with others in the same location.
How do I pay for my auto transport to Denver?
No payment is due at the time of booking. We do require a payment method on file so that it is available to charge once a carrier is secured. We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, Discover and American Express. The most convenient option is to pay for your shipment in full by credit card at the time a carrier is secured.
We also allow you to pay for your Initial Payment via credit or debit card and then pay the outstanding balance on delivery day via cash or a certified check made out to the carrier.
Can I pack personal items inside my vehicle?
Your Sherpa shipment includes up to 100 lbs of personal items or household goods stored in the trunk area or secured below the window line. If you are shipping to or from a port or your shipment includes ocean transit, your vehicle must be emptied of all items. Sherpa and your assigned carrier cannot be responsible for personal items left inside the vehicle. See our Vehicle Shipping Tips for more details.
Do I need to be present at both pickup and delivery?
Yes. It is important that you, or another adult that you trust, is there for pickup and delivery of your vehicle. This designated person plays an important role in the shipping process including documenting the state of the vehicle and signing the Bill of Lading, which acts as a receipt of the vehicle’s condition.
What’s the difference between Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport?
Enclosed transport is at least 50% higher than open trailers. The primary reason for choosing enclosed auto transport is when you have a high value vehicle like a classic car or a custom paint job that can’t afford the risk of wayward debris on the road. See our open vs enclosed auto transport guide for more details.
Do you offer Door-To-Door Auto Transport Service?
Door-to-door auto transport service is the epitome of convenience in vehicle shipping. At the time of booking your shipment, we will ask for your preferred pickup and delivery address. As long as it is possible, the assigned carrier will pick up and deliver your vehicle to the addresses you specify. Of course, if there are transportation restrictions or safety challenges the carrier will work with you to arrange an alternative location, such as a nearby gas station or parking lot.
How are you different from other Car Shipping Companies?
Many Auto Transport companies try to tease customers with lower rates, only to surprise you with “hidden costs” later. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we do things differently. We provide one locked-in price upfront and stick to it. If unexpected costs arise, we pay them out of our own pocket. While we may not always be the cheapest option at first glance, our commitment to transparency and reliability offers exceptional value. As a premium service, we ensure an stress-free experience from start to finish.
What types of vehicles can you transport?
We transport sedans, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles across the nation, including service to Alaska and Hawaii. At this time, we do not service boats, golf carts, ATVs, or RVs. We can ship both operable and inoperable vehicles so long as the vehicle can roll, brake, and steer, and that you can provide the carrier with a key to the vehicle. We can also ship electric vehicles.

- Remove heat-sensitive items from the vehicle
- Fall (September-November): Generally mild, but early snowfall is possible. Be prepared for sudden weather changes.
Beyond weather considerations, timing is crucial when shipping a car to or from Denver. Keep in mind:
- College move-in/out periods: August and May can be busy for auto transport due to student relocations

Car Shipping for College Students in Denver, Colorado
When considering car shipping to Denver for college, it’s crucial to understand parking regulations at local universities. At the University of Denver, students must register their vehicles and purchase parking permits. Most on-campus housing doesn’t include parking, so plan accordingly. For Metropolitan State University, parking is available in designated lots with daily or semester passes. Winter storage options are limited on campuses, so consider using a car transport service to bring your vehicle home during breaks. Denver’s snowy winters make snow tires essential from October to April. Before shipping your car to college, verify that your insurance and roadside assistance coverage extends to Colorado. If you’re unsure about navigating Denver’s car logistics, consulting a car shipping company can provide valuable insights and ensure a smooth transition to college life in the Mile High City.

For military members relocating to the area, it’s essential to know that on-base parking is available, but limited. Many service members choose to live off-base in surrounding neighborhoods, which generally offer ample street parking. Remember to update your vehicle registration within 90 days of arriving in Colorado. The Denver area boasts excellent resources for military families, including the Buckley AFB Commissary and various support services. At Sherpa Auto Transport, we’re proud to offer a $50 military discount on our car shipping services to and from Denver. We thank all service members and their families for their dedication and sacrifice.
Reviews from our Colorado Customers
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, as evidenced by our 4.9 rating with over 8,000 reviews. Here are a few more reviews from satisfied Colorado customers:
“We contracted with Sherpa to arrange transport of an automobile we purchased from our daughter and son-in-law in Connecticut to our home near Boulder, Colorado. Sherpa notified us that it had found a transporter, that the price would be about $200 higher than its estimate, and that Sherpa would cover the difference–so we paid exactly what Sherpa had promised. They were good in communicating each step of the process.”
“Upfront guaranteed delivery. Great communication. Guaranteed pickup in 4 day pickup window. Here is why you should go with Sherpa. My vehicle was picked up on a Tuesday in North Carolina and delivered at my driveway on Thursday to Colorado. 1700 miles in two days, no issues with the vehicle at all. (High Line Transport) was the driver. He kept great communication from pickup to dropoff. Sherpa made me feel comfortable explaining the process in detail, I why I should go with them instead of the other companies. I am glad I listened. Saved a lot of trouble vetting other companies.”
“I recently used Sherpa Auto Transport to ship an auto from Denver to Tampa. They picked up on time & delivered on time. The auto arrived in the same condition it was when Sherpa took possession. The entire process was efficient & cost effective. The driver was excellent & very professional. My experience was top-notch.”
“I had very good experience with Sherpa and I would recommend them to transport your vehicle. They had a good rate and the reviews were good. They were very responsive. They called back. It was easy to set up. They gave me the timing that I wanted. The drop-off was easy except the driver couldn`t get through to the neighborhood so we had to meet him in a parking lot, which was fine. The pickup was more complicated because I was making a plane flight and hoping to do it on time. But there was a weather issue where they shut down the road and the driver could not get his truck through. They were in touch with me the whole day. I tried to figure out how I could work this out and still keep my flight. And he had to wait until they opened up the road and they didn`t know if they could make it. So, they would have me leave my key at a hotel because we were already out of my apartment since the movers had come the day before and I was just waiting for the car guys to come so I could fly back to New York. They did whatever they could to get through to me. The guy came with the truck and I was able to watch them put my car on the truck rather than leave my key. So, did a good job at getting me information, being responsive to my inquiries and making it work for me.”
“Car was picked up and delivered exactly within timeframe Sherpa provided. All the way from Connecticut to Denver. People were nice and responsive when I called. You do have to take a leap of faith with all these type of brokers, because pick up often does go right up to the wire. However, Sherpa did use their “sweeten the pot” contribution (a portion of their $300 fee) of 75$ to get an auto transport commitment. This whole process is not very high tech, but it does work well. I did call around and everyone seemed competitive within a couple of hundred dollars. This was the first time I ever shipped a car, and if I ever have to do this again, there`s no reason to go anywhere else. I know some people claim they had issues, but I`m willing to bet that those are anomalies. Nothing is ever 100% but as far as my experience, I`m 100% satisfied with their service.”

What is Car Shipping?
Car shipping, also known as auto transport or vehicle transport, is a specialized service provided by car shipping companies to move vehicles from one location to another. Whether you’re buying or selling a car online, relocating to a new home in Denver, or needing to transport a vehicle abroad, car shipping companies have the expertise and equipment to handle the job safely and efficiently. These companies use specialized carriers and trailers to ensure your vehicle is transported securely, giving you peace of mind throughout the process.
About the Car Shipping Industry
Car shipping is a fascinating industry. There are Carriers – the businesses that pickup and transport vehicles – and there are Brokers – the businesses that help Carriers source their customers. Carriers are primarily mom & pop small businesses who own and operate their trucks and trailers – many of whom own and operate their businesses out of Colorado. This means there are thousands of carriers and this fragmentation creates a need for centralization. That’s why Carriers rely on Brokers – like Sherpa – to help optimize their loads and source business for them. Sherpa vets Carriers and has a strict list of requirements for any Carrier looking to do business with Sherpa Auto Transport.

- Hydraulic systems used in car carriers allow the trailers to be raised or lowered, making it easier and safer to load and unload vehicles. This feature is now standard in many auto transport trucks. [Source: Tempus Logix]
- The “head rack” design—which allows an extra car to be transported above the truck’s cab—was first introduced in the 1960s. This innovation maximized the number of vehicles that could be shipped on a single truck without extending its length. [Source: Super Dispatch]
- During World War II, specialized military transport trucks were developed to haul heavy vehicles like tanks. These trucks, known as “tank transporters,” could carry loads of up to 100 tons, paving the way for modern heavy-duty transport trucks. [Source: National WWII Museum]

- Some modern car carriers are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the trailer’s weight by up to 3,000 pounds compared to steel. This allows for greater fuel efficiency and payload capacity, meaning carriers can transport more cars with less fuel. [Source: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]
